Books on Sale: So Many Excellent Books!

Book DefianceI know so many people who loved this book. Defiance is .99c today only at Amazon as a daily deal. This is a post-apocalypse New Adult novel set in a motorcycle gang. (Like you do.) It has a bunch of positive reviews behind it which praise the world and the emotional intensity of the characters. The next book, Redemption, comes out November 18.

Rebelling against her legacy as the MC's princess, Tru Tennyson escaped the ruthless, male-dominated culture of the Defiance motorcycle club. Three years later, her newfound freedom is ripped away, thanks to a massive hybrid storm that killed millions. Now, in the post-Chaos world of semi-darkness and near-total anarchy where gangs rule, she discovers the dangerous world of Defiance may be the one thing that can keep her safe.

Tru is at the MC's mercy when she's dragged back to her former home…and to the only man she's ever pictured a future with. Caspar is the bastard son of the club's leader, her safe haven when life got rough—and her onetime lover the night she left. When Tru refuses to trade sex for power and be claimed by a rival club leader, she also dares to announce she wants Caspar instead, throwing the MC into turmoil.

Tru's brazen revolt could start a gang war and destroy the club from within. Now both Tru and the MC must wait for Caspar's response…and the inevitable fallout.

Book Soulless AudiobookSoulless by Gail Carriger is today's Audible Deal of the Day, and is only $3.95 for the unabridged audiobook. Performed by Emily Gray, the book is 10 hours and 52 minutes long.

Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette. Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire — and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

SOULLESS is the first book of the Parasol Protectorate series: a comedy of manners set in Victorian London, full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.

Book Dark WitchDark Witch is the new trilogy by Nora Roberts, and it came out last week. Chris Z pointed out in the comments elsewhere that the price just dropped from $9.99/$7.99 to $4.79 at Amazon and BN, which is a bummer if, as Chris mentioned, you already bought it at the higher price. This is a brand new trilogy, not a reprint, and is a paranormal – or, as I call them, a ParaNora.

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland.

County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives.

When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…

Book Backstage with her ExMany (if not all) of the Harlequin KISS books are free or $1.99, on sale or for pre-order, including this one, which I've seen readers praising in various places. Backstage With her Ex has many happy reviews, too, from readers who loved the portrayal of two very different people getting a second chance. Have you read it?

Her ex…the VIP!

Hiding out in the gents' toilets backstage is not the way Sasha imagined bumping into her significant ex. Especially when that ex is notoriously damaged, famously wild rock god Nate Munro! She has a massive favor to ask him, but one glimpse of his sinfully dark eyes and all she can think about is that he's seen her naked!

Nate's used to women doing anything to get his attention, but he never pictured bubbly schoolteacher Sasha as the groupie type—she's far too sweet! But when the paparazzi get a hint of their reunion, it's scandal all the way. Now the question on everyone's lips is this: In this showdown between the girl next door and rock-and-roll royalty, who's going to come out on top?

Book An Arranged Marriage

Thanks to the many folks who pointed out that An Arranged Marriage by Jo Beverly is .99c right now. This book was originally published in 1991, and has been released digitally. This book has mixed reviews, but those who adore it love the supreme angst and the over-the-top plot devices. Is this one of your favorites? What do you love about it?

Eleanor Chivenham didn't put much past her vile brother, but even she had not anticipated his greedy scheme to dupe a rich earl into mistaking her for a lightskirt With her reputation in shreds and her future ruined, a defeated Eleanor was forced to agree to a hasty wedding.

But marriage to the mysterious Nicholas Delaney was more than she'd bargained for. He doubtless thought the worst of her, but when society gossip soon told her all about his beautiful French mistress, Eleanor tried to act with the cool dignity required in a marriage of convenience. But how long could she hold out against his undeniable charm — or the secret desires of her heart?

For the sake of family honor, Nicolas Delaney agreed to wed a wronged lady. In truth, such chivalry ran counter to his carefully wrought image of a carousing, dissolute rogue — the guise so vital to his secret political mission.

He hoped to keep his new wife in the background until a spy was trapped, but Eleanor's beauty and fighting wit were impossible to ignore. In fact, she presented quite a challenge to his prowess with women — and a test of his formidable will.

  1. can’t wait to read Dark Witch and Defiance both.

  2. Dread Pirate Rachel says:

Damn it. I’m a sucker for a rock star romance, and they’re always so, so terrible. Oh, well. Off to Amazon I go!

P.S. I learned on Chopped that there’s such a thing as a “touring chef” for rock bands. My god, can you imagine? Both of my catnip romance careers combined into one! It would be unstoppable.

  3. Demi says:

    Uh-oh,

sounds like all my catnip rolled into one…motorcycles, very sassy heroine, alpha hero…

  4. Gry says:

I looooove the Parasol Protectorate series! It is unbelievably fun – and the heroine is seriously kickass (which I also like a lot.) Why, in the very first chapter of this book, she stakes a vampire, using her hairstick for a weapon (which tickles me even more, I often use hairsticks in my own hair) and she doesn’t slow down at all during the whole series.

  5. Wench says:

Well, now “ParaNora” has entered my personal lexicon, thank you.

“Dark Witch” is also now downloading, because even though I look at the description and go “Oh Nora, you and your obsession with woo and Ireland, preferably together”, I know I will read it and love it. So thanks for that too 😀

  6. Heather S says:

I thought “Defiance” seemed mildly interesting, until I saw “New Adult” in the description. BLEGH. I *HATE* that genre. With a violent, stabbity passion. It pushes pretty much every single Rage Button that I have.

  7. Jill-Marie says:

Alas, it seems that the daily Audible deal must be on East Coast time, because it is no longer available here on the West Coast, even though we still have 90 minutes to go on Nov. 7.

Off to see if I can get it through my library….

  8. Kate says:

I’m so sad to report that I hated Dark Witch. It was basically a mishmash of Jewels of the Sun without the charm, and Blood Brothers, without the sense of menace. I was indifferent to all of the characters- no one seemed developed or fleshed out. The whole book just seemed full of shortcuts, without any depth. I know that a lot of people find La Nora formalistic but I usually love that about her books- I know exactly what I’m getting, where the story is going to end up and how it’s going to get there- they’re comfort reading for me. This one never came together for me at all.

  9. Emily says:

I would like to say I am all-new to blogging and actually liked your site. You extremely have fantastic articles. Cheers for sharing your web-site. %KW%
