Books on Sale: New Kristan Higgins Marked Down, Plus Austen’s Persuasion in Audio!

Book The Perfect MatchThe Perfect Match by Kristan Higgins came out Nov. 1 2013, and is currently 50% off at $3.99.

What if the perfect match is a perfect surprise?

Honor Holland has just been unceremoniously rejected by her lifelong crush. And now—a mere three weeks later—Mr. Perfect is engaged to her best friend. But resilient, reliable Honor is going to pick herself up, dust herself off and get back out there…or she would if dating in Manningsport, New York, population 715, wasn't easier said than done.

Charming, handsome British professor Tom Barlow just wants to do right by his unofficial stepson, Charlie, but his visa is about to expire. Now Tom must either get a green card or leave the States—and leave Charlie behind.

In a moment of impulsiveness, Honor agrees to help Tom with a marriage of convenience—and make her ex jealous in the process. But juggling a fiancé, hiding out from her former best friend and managing her job at the family vineyard isn't easy. And as sparks start to fly between Honor and Tom, they might discover that their pretend relationship is far too perfect to be anything but true love….

Book Persuasion Audiobook Jane Austen's Persuasion is today's Audible Daily Deal – an unabridged performance by Juliet Stevenson for only $2.95. Price valid today (4 November) only!

Twenty-seven-year old Anne Elliot is Austen's most adult heroine. Eight years before the story proper begins, she is happily betrothed to a naval officer, Frederick Wentworth, but she precipitously breaks off the engagement when persuaded by her friend Lady Russell that such a match is unworthy.

The breakup produces in Anne a deep and long-lasting regret. When later Wentworth returns from sea a rich and successful captain, he finds Anne's family on the brink of financial ruin and his own sister a tenant in Kellynch Hall, the Elliot estate. All the tension of the novel revolves around one question: Will Anne and Wentworth be reunited in their love?

Jane Austen once compared her writing to painting on a little bit of ivory, 2 inches square. Readers of Persuasion will discover that neither her skill for delicate, ironic observations on social custom, love, and marriage nor her ability to apply a sharp focus lens to English manners and morals has deserted her in her final finished work.

Book Thrill Ride Thrill Ride by Julie Ann Walker is .99c right now. This is book 4 in the Black Knights series, and some of the others (Hell on Wheels, In Rides Trouble) have been on sale previously.

Ex-Navy SEAL Rock Babineaux’s job is to get information, and he’s one of the best in the business. Until something goes horribly wrong and he’s being hunted by his own government. Even his best friends at the covert special-ops organization Black Knights Inc. aren’t sure they can trust him.

He thinks he can outrun them all, but his former partner—a curvy bombshell who knows just how to drive him wild—refuses to cut him loose.

Vanessa Cordova hasn’t been the team’s communication specialist very long, but she knows how to read people—no way is Rock guilty of murder. And she’ll go to hell and back to help him prove it. Sure, the sexy Cajun has his secrets, but there’s no one in the world she’d rather have by her side in a tight spot.

Which is good, because they’re about to get very tight…

  1. I just love Kristan Higgins’ books. Very cool that the ebook is at a lower price! Thanks.

Meredith Duran’s next book, Fool Me Twice, is on pre-order for $1.99 right now. It doesn’t come out until March 25 but I know she’s an auto-buy for many and that’s a great price.

  3. Jessica E says:

BN.com has Thrill Ride for $4.  Based on the other two books I’ve read by her, it’s still a great deal.

The Kristen Higgens book is the second in a series.  The first one is “The Best Man” which I finished Saturday morning around 2 am.  The Best Man was slow to start with tons of info dumping and initially, I didn’t like the hero and then the heroine got annoying and was being frequently embarrassed. (Who’s sweater get flushed down a toilet without any blockage?). Anyway, I persisted and it got better.  Not my favorite of Ms. Higgins but at least the dog didn’t die.  Also, challenging to keep the family straight.  Since Honor is a sister from book 1, I’m certain the whole cast plus some will be in book 2.

I haven’t read this Higgins but the last one in the series was ok, and I like/love her books as a rule (with notable exceptions). I will absolutely read this one.

Love Austen, obvs, and Persuasion is in the upper echelon, but I can’t speak to audio books. It’s always free as a Project Gutenberg ebook.

I can’t explain why I am addicted to that Walker series. It’s like why I like Dots. They’re waxy and odd and not that good only I cannot stop eating them. More please.
