Books on Sale: Angst and Emotion with Katie McGarry, Julia Spencer-Fleming, and Katana Collins

Book Pushing the LimitsRECOMMENDED: Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry is $2.99 right now. It has tremendous emotion, angst, and teenagers dealing with adults things that are difficult and challenging – and all of those things can make for a polarizing reading experience.

This book was a Book Club Pick in August 2012, and was nominated for a RITA® as well. From our RITA® Reader Challenge review by Staci: “this book pulled me in two very different directions. I really liked Noah and I felt that his character was very well put together. Conversely, I didn’t dislike Echo, but I wanted to whack her upside the head too much to say that I liked her.”

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth.

But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can PUSH THE LIMITS and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her HOW TO LOVE AGAIN.

Book Dare You ToRECOMMENDED: Dare You To is $4.99 at some retailers, and $4.21 at Amazon. It's not as low as the price has been in months past, but if you're looking for book gifts, or to continue with the series, that's a good price. This is book #2 in the series.

Ryan lowers his lips to my ear.

“Dance with me, Beth.”

“No.” I whisper the reply.

I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again….

“I dare you…”

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does….

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him. But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all….

Book One Was a Soldier

One Was a Soldier, the most recent Russ Van Alstyne/Clare Fergusson mystery set in Miller's Kill, NY, is $2.99 right now. This mystery series is popular not only for the strong sense of place but also because of the complex and fascinating relationship between Russ and Clare. I love this series but must confess I haven't caught up with it. The next book in the series, Through the Evil Days, was published November 5.

On a warm September evening in the Millers Kill community center, five veterans sit down in rickety chairs to try to make sense of their experiences in Iraq. What they will find is murder, conspiracy, and the unbreakable ties that bind them to one another and their small Adirondack town.

The Rev. Clare Fergusson wants to forget the things she saw as a combat helicopter pilot and concentrate on her relationship with Chief of Police Russ Van Alstyne. MP Eric McCrea needs to control the explosive anger threatening his job as a police officer. Will Ellis, high school track star, faces the reality of life as a double amputee. Orthopedist Trip Stillman is denying the extent of his traumatic brain injury. And bookkeeper Tally McNabb wrestles with guilt over the in-country affair that may derail her marriage.

But coming home is harder than it looks. One vet will struggle with drugs and alcohol. One will lose his family and friends. One will die.

Since their first meeting, Russ and Clare's bond has been tried, torn, and forged by adversity. But when he rules the veteran's death a suicide, she violently rejects his verdict, drawing the surviving vets into an unorthodox investigation that threatens jobs, relationships, and her own future with Russ.

As the days cool and the nights grow longer, they will uncover a trail of deceit that runs from their tiny town to the upper ranks of the U.S. Army, and from the waters of the Millers Kill to the unforgiving streets of Baghdad.

Book Soul Stripper

Soul Stripper by Katana Collins is on sale for $1.99. Heather S. alerted me to this one, saying she'd had this book on her wish list for a long time, an that she was very excited it's on sale right now. This is paranormal erotic fantasy, with a succubus barista as the heroine.

By day, Monica is a barista in a local Las Vegas cafe. It doesn’t pay a lot, but it puts her up close and personal with her sexy boss, Drew. Unfortunately, that’s as far as a succubus can go unless she wants to take his soul.

Monica needs mind blowing sex to sustain her, and she finds her victims every night at a local strip club where she’s an exotic dancer. But when her powers begin to diminish and her fellow succubi start turning up dead, all bets are off. Monica realizes she’s the one immortal who has a chance in hell of making things right…

I don’t remember this one… I think maybe you got me and my constant sending of links confused with someone else. However, it does look interesting, despite being erotica-ish.
