Books on Sale: Romances with 4+ Star Averages, Bestsellers, and More

Book Rescue My Heart Rescue My Heart by Jill Shalvis is on sale for $1.99 right now. This is part of the Animal Magnetism series set in Idaho in a small town (of course!) in and around the town's animal shelter. This book has a 4.07-star average (whoa) on GoodReads, and readers loved both the humor and the very sexy story.

After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past—the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

Holly Reid learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, it’s the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.

For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate, will have its share of risks—including opening their hearts one more time.

Book Lady's Companion

The Lady's Companion by Carla Kelly is $2.99 right now. This book won the RITA® for Best Regency Romance in 1997, and has a 4.12-star average on GoodReads. Romance fans who love classic Regencies say this is one of the best.

Miss Susan Hampton was a lady born and bred. She never imagined she would have to make her own way in the world. But that was before her feckless father gamed away the family estate. That was before her odious aunt turned her into an unpaid servant. Now Susan had fled that tyranny- only to wonder if she had leapt out of the frying pan into the fire.

In a remote country manor, Susan took the post of companion to the Dowager Lady Bushnell, whose fiery temper made a dragon seem sweet. But even more dangerous was the dowager's boldly handsome bailiff, David Wiggins, whose blood was red, not blue, and who was everything a man could be except a gentleman.

Desperately, Susan told herself that he was totally unsuitable as her suitor – even as this infuriatingly irresistible man awoke her as a woman and made her forget she was a lady….

It looks like all of Carla Kelly’s Signet back catalog is $2.99 on Amazon.

  2. Joanna says:

I was lucky enough to see The Book Thief at the Chicago Film Festival this week and it was really good!  The girl who plays Liesel (who is pictured on the new cover above) was a wonderful young actress, and the supporting cast starring Geoffrey Rush was equally wonderful.  Highly recommend the film, and from what I have heard the book is also excellent (wished I had time to read it before seeing the film.)  FYI, not a romance and the story is pretty dark.

I bought The Lady’s Companion because it was on sale earlier here and it was wonderful. Thanks to sales, I’ve discovered that Carla Kelly writes my sort of historical romance and I highly recommend this one. Its a great play on a woman in hard circumstances who discovers her strength and an older woman who is still herself and how chosen family can be more powerful than family by blood.

If you love Courtney Milan and Julie Anne Long, but haven’t read Carla Kelly, go read her. There’s not as much sex but there’s still the same care given to all the characters and how their stories fit into the world. They feel real and plausible and all of them keep me up late reading because I have to know they figure it out.

Now I need to see which others of hers are on sale so I can read more of her back catalog.

I gotta say I think I’m like the only person who thought Rescue My Heart was just ok. I LOVE the series and I LOVE Shalvis, but that one wasn’t my favorite. (That honor belongs to Animal Attraction. Yummy!) Maybe it’s because I don’t really love heroes who are way-uncommunicative, which Adam was. But it’s still a decent read, if you like Shalvis’s style.

@Kate K. F. You’ve sold me on Carla Kelly. I hadn’t read her yet because I was worried she wasn’t modern enough for me. Your rec pushed me to try
