Books on Sale: Outstanding Daily Deals Today for Grown Ups and Kids

Today's Kindle Daily Deal features 13 books on which movies were based. The prices, however, are being matched elsewhere (YAY!). Here are a few you might really enjoy.

Book Nick and Norah's Infinite PlaylistRECOMMENDED:  Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan is $1.99 for the Kindle copy today. This is one of my favorite YA novels. Candy reviewed it back in 2007, and I reviewed it at RomanceNovel.tv (though I can't find the right link – I'm sorry). I LOVED this book, and I liked the movie (which is rare).

It all starts when Nick asks Norah to be his girlfriend for five minutes. He only needs five minutes to avoid his ex-girlfriend, who’s just walked in to his band’s show. With a new guy. And then, with one kiss, Nick and Norah are off on an adventure set against the backdrop of New York City—and smack in the middle of all the joy, anxiety, confusion, and excitement of a first date.

This he said/she said romance told by YA stars Rachel Cohn and David Levithan is a sexy, funny roller coaster of a story about one date over one very long night, with two teenagers, both recovering from broken hearts, who are just trying to figure out who they want to be—and where the next great band is playing.

Told in alternating chapters, teeming with music references, humor, angst, and endearing side characters, this is a love story you’ll wish were your very own. Working together for the first time, Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have combined forces to create a book that is sure to grab readers of all ages and never let them go.

Book Jurassic ParkNot a romance – but Jurassic Park is $1.99 today for the Kindle. I totally bought this because in a few years (!!) my older son, who loves dinosaurs, will be old enough to read it.

An astonishing technique for recovering and cloning dinosaur DNA has been discovered. Now humankind’s most thrilling fantasies have come true.

Creatures extinct for eons roam Jurassic Park with their awesome presence and profound mystery, and all the world can visit them—for a price. Until something goes wrong. . . .

Book Diary of a Wimpy Kid 7 - Audiobook

The audiobook of Diary of a Wimpy Kid 7 – The Third Wheel is today's Audible deal at $1.95. It's unabridged, and two hours and 3 minutes.

Love is in the air – but what does that mean for Greg Heffley?

A Valentine's Day dance at Greg's middle school has turned his world upside down. As Greg scrambles to find a date, he's worried he'll be left out in the cold on the big night. His best friend, Rowley, doesn't have any prospects either, but that's a small consolation.

An unexpected twist gives Greg a partner for the dance and leaves Rowley the odd man out. But a lot can happen in one night, and in the end, you never know who's going to be lucky in love.

Book Confessions of a Shopaholic Confessions of a Shopaholic is $1.99 today, too. This is one of the most famous of the “chick-lit” books, and I liked it.

Rebecca Bloomwood just hit rock bottom. But she's never looked better….

Becky Bloomwood has a fabulous flat in London's trendiest neighborhood, a troupe of glamorous socialite friends, and a closet brimming with the season's must-haves. The only trouble is that she can't actually afford it — not any of it. Her job writing at Successful Savings not only bores her to tears, it doesn't pay much at all.

And lately Becky's been chased by dismal letters from Visa and the Endwich Bank — letters with large red sums she can't bear to read — and they're getting ever harder to ignore. She tries cutting back; she even tries making more money. But none of her efforts succeeds. Becky's only consolation is to buy herself something … just a little something…

Finally a story arises that Becky actually cares about, and her front-page article catalyzes a chain of events that will transform her life–and the lives of those around her–forever.

Sophie Kinsella has brilliantly tapped into our collective consumer conscience to deliver a novel of our times — and a heroine who grows stronger every time she weakens. Becky Bloomwood's hilarious schemes to pay back her debts are as endearing as they are desperate. Her “confessions” are the perfect pick-me-up when life is hanging in the (bank) balance.

 Book Flipped

Flipped is a YA Romance – on sale for Kindle for $1.99 today. This is honestly the first I've heard of it, but the description sounds adorable. It has a 3.87 average on Goodreads.

Flipped is a romance told in two voices. The first time Juli Baker saw Bryce Loski, she flipped.

The first time Bryce saw Juli, he ran. That’s pretty much the pattern for these two neighbors until the eighth grade, when, just as Juli is realizing Bryce isn’t as wonderful as she thought, Bryce is starting to see that Juli is pretty amazing.

How these two teens manage to see beyond the surface of things and come together makes for a comic and poignant romance.

I loved Jurassic Park!!  The movie was fun and great in it’s own way but it’s easy to forget what a blockbuster the novel was, even before all the hoopla of CGI dinosaurs.  It was such a big seller and became a hot Hollywood prospect because it was so good.  If you’ve never read anything of Michael Crichton’s and you imagine this to have the same adventure, romp feel of the movie, guess again.  There is so much more.  Along with the action Crichton’s book had a seriously tone to it.  Like a lot of his books he used a mix of factual and fictional science and data to create a plot that, although fantastical, seem plausible.  JP was the first of his novels that I read but it certainly wasn’t my last.
