There's a little bit of everything on sale today. Hope you find a book you'll enjoy!

Book A Race to Splendor

A Race to Splendor by Ciji Ware is $2.99 as one of Amazon's Daily Deals, and the price has been matched by other vendors. This is a historical set against the recover from the San Francisco earthquake of 1909, and features to young heroines who are architects – a field dominated by men – as they work to help rebuild the city. This book has a 3.63 star average at GR.

“Blindly, she inched along a floor pitching as violently as the deck of a boat in a midwinter storm. Her hands touched the threshold opening onto the ninth floor foyer at the instant the glass transom over her head exploded into a thousand pieces. Reflexively, Amelia cast her right arm in front of her face, but not before blood spurted from her scalp and ran down her checks. She crumpled beneath the doorframe, curling into a ball. Amelia screamed again as a twenty-five-foot expanse of wood paneling and masonry pitched outward and plunged nine stories to Montgomery Street below. She knew that no structure on landfill, no matter how well built, could withstand much more shaking without collapsing. Then, just as suddenly, the convulsions subsided.”

Early in 1906, the ground in San Francisco shook buildings and lives from their comfortable foundations. Amidst rubble, corruption, and deceit, two women-young architects in a city and field ruled by men-find themselves racing the clock and each other during the rebuilding of competing hotels in the City by the Bay. Based on meticulous research, A Race to Splendor tells the story of the audacious people of one of the world's great cities rebuilding and reinventing themselves after immense human tragedy.

Filled with courage, passion, and conflict, Amelia Bradshaw's spirit will capture your imagination as she strives to redraft her life amidst the ruins with both help and hindrance from a wayward son of privilege who pulls her into worlds she'd never have known.

 Book Demon Princess

Demon Princess/Reign or Shine by Michelle Rowen is another of today's Kindle Daily Deals, and is $2.99. This price hasn't been matched at other vendors that I've found. This is a paranormal YA comedy, but I'm not sure of the title. It's listed different ways at different places – GR calls it “Reign or Shine: Demon Princess 1” while Amazon calls it “Demon Princess.” Either way, this book has a 3.9 star average at GR, where some readers loved the fast-moving plot and the comedy, while others really really hated the heroine.

As if trying to fit in at a new school isn't stressful enough, sixteen-year-old Nikki Donovan just found out that her long-lost father is, in fact, the demon king of the Shadowlands—the world that separates and protects us from the Underworld.

When she is brought there by the mysterious—and surprisingly cute—messenger Michael, she learns that her father is dying, and he wants her to assume the throne. To complicate matters, a war is brewing between the Shadowlands and the Underworld, her half-demon qualities are manifesting, and her growing feelings for Michael are completely forbidden.

Ruling a kingdom, navigating a secret crush, and still making it home by curfew—what's a teenage demon princess to do?

“A Race to Splendor” was a wonderful book.  You can tell the research was extensive because the story feels so real.  I felt like I’d walked through the rubble myself!  And it doesn’t hurt that the star of the story is our own “Cool, Grey, City of Love”.

I has a sad. I want to read “A Race to Splendor” but it is way out of my price range on Kobo.. $14.99 🙁

  3. Genghis Mom says:

@samanthadelayed If you have a smart phone or tablet, you can download the Kindle or Nook app and read that way. I have a Nook, but put the Kindle app on my phone to read things that they have exclusively on sale. (Warning! Keeping track of what books you already can be tricky and re-purchases may not be uncommon! LOL!)

  4. samanthadelayed says:

I thought about doing that but I find I just cant read on my iPhone..I put books on there and never seem to finish them. I will just have to cross my fingers and hope it goes on sale on Kobo or in the Sony store.

I got mine from the public library.  I agree, $14.99 is over the top.
