Book Boy Meets BoyBoy Meets Boy by David Levithan is a YA novel that's currently $2.99. The digital edition also includes a short story about one of the characters in the book. This was Levithan's first book, and imagines a very queer-friendly alternative reality for a set of memorable high school characters.

This is the story of Paul, a sophomore at a high school like no other: The cheerleaders ride Harleys, the homecoming queen used to be a guy named Daryl (she now prefers Infinite Darlene and is also the star quarterback), and the gay-straight alliance was formed to help the straight kids learn how to dance.

When Paul meets Noah, he thinks he’s found the one his heart is made for. Until he blows it. The school bookie says the odds are 12-to-1 against him getting Noah back, but Paul’s not giving up without playing his love really loud. His best friend Joni might be drifting away, his other best friend Tony might be dealing with ultra-religious parents, and his ex-boyfriend Kyle might not be going away anytime soon, but sometimes everything needs to fall apart before it can really fit together right.

This is a happy-meaningful romantic comedy about finding love, losing love, and doing what it takes to get love back in a crazy-wonderful world.

Unwanted at home, Molly goes to work for the king of Westria as a humble scullery maid. She arrives at the castle with no education, no manners, and a very disturbing secret: She sees visions, and those visions always come true.

One day, while she's working in the king's great hall, young Prince Alaric passes by. Molly finds him unbearably handsome—but also unbearably rude. But what does it really matter? She'll probably never see him again.

In time Molly is promoted to polishing silver and is given a priceless royal treasure to work on: the king's great ceremonial hand basin. But there's something odd about it. The silver warms to her touch, a voice commands her to watch and listen, and then the visions appear. They tell the story of a dreaded curse that has stalked the royal family for years. There have already been deaths; soon there will be more.

As tragedy after tragedy strikes the royal family, Molly can't help but wonder: Will the beautiful Alaric be next? Together with her friends Tobias and Winifred, Molly must protect the prince and destroy the curse. Could a less likely champion be found to save the kingdom of Westria?

Oooh, I’ve wanted to read Boy Meets Boy for a while, thanks for the heads up!

  2. Jennifer Bell says:

I remember Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch. In the middle of the book, my Kindle broke. I called the Kindle hotline to get a replacement, and cried to the CR rep that they had found bones in the bottom of the well on the ranch, and I didn’t know who’s they were and I really needed my new Kindle quick. We both laughed, and I got a new Kindle in a couple of days.

Solid HQ, BJ Daniels does good world building (town building?). You get to know everyone in town and the Montana landscape. And the story of the bones in in well is good.

  3. Jen says:

I’ve read a few of the Cardwell series now and I’d say they’re ok but not amazing. The writing is decent but the plots and characters can be a little wooden. If you like romantic suspense they’re not a horrible way to spend a few hours.

  4. Friday says:

I agree with Jen, they’re a good, solid suspense romance novel set, but they didn’t light my hair on fire.  Dana -especially in the third novel- comes across as a ditzy, helpless, brainless female who is in constant need to be rescued.
Compared to other ‘heroines’ though, Daniels writes heroines with a little bit of grit, and determination.  They often find their spines in the last third of the book, which is reassuring.
