Books on Sale: a Recommended Historical from Zoe Archer And More!

Book Sweet RevengeRECOMMENDED: Sweet Revenge by Zoe Archer is $2.99 right now. This book is a unique, fast-paced, historical-but-not-in-a-ballroom adventure. I reviewed this book in June and gave it a B+:

One aspect of this book that I thoroughly enjoyed was the way in which Archer takes the power in each scene and transfers it between the two characters one after the other. Sometimes he's the dominant one, sometimes she is. And they learn to work together, appreciating one another's strengths and not bemoaning their own weaknesses.

I loved that the characters were extraordinary because they were focused and determined humans – no superpowers, no magical skills. Jack was a brawler, a man who knew how to fight dirty, who broke rocks in prison and is therefore a huge man. I also loved how he was open to being loved and appreciated, how it changed him so deeply, going from having no one who knew or cared about him to having people who watched out for him, and one person who worried about him and cared very much.

And yes, his nipple IS looking at you.

When Jack Dalton escapes from Dunmoor Prison, he has only one thing in mind—finding the nobleman who murdered his sister and making him pay. But when he reaches the inn where the Lord Rockley is rumored to be staying, three well-dressed strangers are there to meet him instead. And the pretty blonde is aiming a pistol right at his head …

Joining Nemesis, Unlimited has made Eva Warrick much more than the well-mannered lady she appears to be—one who can shoot, fight, and outsmart any man in the quest to right the injustices so often suffered by the innocent. She’s not afraid of the burly escaped convict, but she is startled by their shared attraction.

She and her partners need Jack’s help to get to Rockley, but Eva finds she wants Jack for scandalous reasons all her own…

Book ForgottenForgotten by Catherine McKenzie is $1.99 right now. This is not quite a romance, but a very-well reviewed story about a woman who was presumed dead by everyone she knew, and how she re-enters her life when she finally makes it home.

Emma Tupper is a dedicated lawyer with a bright future. But when she takes a month-long leave of absence to go on an African vacation, she ends up facing unexpected consequences. After she falls ill and spends six months trapped in a remote village thanks to a devastating earthquake, Emma returns home to discover that her friends, boyfriend, and colleagues thought she was dead–and that her life has moved on without her.

As she struggles to re-create her old life, throwing herself into solving a big case for a client and trying to reclaim her beloved apartment from the handsome photographer who assumed her lease, everyone around her thinks she should take the opportunity to change. But is she willing to sacrifice her job, her relationships, and everything else she worked so hard to build?

Book What the Bride Didn't Know

Many (if not all) of the Harlequin KISS books are free or $1.99, on sale or for pre-order.

What the Bride Didn't Know caught my eye as a $1.99 pre-order because of the number of very happy reviews already posted. The description below is misleading according to this less-happy GR review, which says the focus of the story is more about the heroine's amnesia more than a cover operation with both aware they're posing as a married couple. But the friends-to-lovers unrequited-crush catnip, it's calling my name, especially since I've really enjoyed Kelly Hunter's other books. (Yeah, I totally bought it. I tell you, these posts are just as dangerous for me.)

 Shh…it's a secret!

Special ops expert Trig Sinclair is a man's man, and that means he knows the cardinal rule of the bro code—no matter how dynamite Lena West is, as his best friend's younger sister, she's strictly off-limits!

But when a secret mission to Istanbul sees Lena and Trig pretending to be married (and sharing a bed!), he finds himself in a whole new world of sweet torture…. But if Trig thinks playing the honor-bound hero is tough, it's got nothing on how Lena feels when she discovers what her “groom” is really hiding….

Book Brazen AngelBrazen Angel by Elizabeth Boyle is .99c. This historical romance was originally published in 1997, and it won the RITA® for “Best First Book” in 1998 (thanks for that info, Amanda!).

A Double Life…
She was every man's fantasy–and most dangerous desire. One bewitching look, the whispered promise of unspeakable ecstasy, and London's richest and most notorious rakes followed the Brazen Angel like sheep–ready to be fleeced.

All London was in her thrall as she waltzed from masquerade to masquerade, seducing and stealing with impunity–until she met her match in the dark and dangerous lord who vowed to unmask her.

A Single Passion…
London's most audacious thief. Giles Corliss, Marquess of Trahern, had come home to honor his father's last request and marry a woman he'd never met, Lady Sophia D'Artiers. It was to be a marriage of convenience to beget an heir.

But Giles had yet to discover that behind the fragile, ailing facade of his intended, Lady Sophia, lay the mistress of disguise–an irresistible brazen angel who was about to lure him into a reckless passion that threatened to destroy them both…

Before I buy, I’d like to know if the historical’s heroes have that magical, tingling touch which causes the heroine to lose her mind the moment he holds her hand? Which also causes her to give in to his embrace even though she doesn’t want it? And makes her forget how to remove herself from said embrace?

Can you tell how sick and tired I am of reading stories in which the hero’s magic kisses instantly suck a so-called intelligent woman’s brain right out of her head?

Seriously, the last several books I’ve read would have been flung against the wall if the weren’t on my Nook.

Oooh, I’ve been waiting to get Sweet Revenge! Alas, I’m trying to get it from Kobo, where it’s listed as $2.99, but it’s changing to $8.99 at checkout. Is this happening to anyone else? I’m in Canada, which sometimes means sales don’t apply, but it’s $2.99 on the site even when I’m logged in.

CarrieS. – well said! Me too!

Yikes! Purchased three out of four today. The only reason I didn’t buy the Boyle is because I read it when it came out.

    And how about those heroes?
    Honor.  Honor.  Honor.  Breast.  Oops!

    Yep, them too!

I swore I wasn’t going to buy a bunch of books today.  I now have click-clicked four times.  Why did two good books come out today?  And then I see recommendations for two more?  Didn’t booksellers get the memo that November is officially busy?
