Book The Legend of Eli Monpress

Plus, today's Kindle Daily Deals are really spiffy – and, because of the word “daily,” available just for today.

The Legend of Eli Monpress is a three book set for $1.99. This is a Kindle Daily Deal but the price is being matched at BN and other vendors. This omnibus has a 4.19 rating on Goodreads, and is really, really well reviewed. If you have friends who like adventure fantasy, this would be a terrific gift.

Eli Monpress is talented. He's charming. And he's a thief. But not just any thief. He's the greatest thief of the age – and he's also a wizard. And with the help of his partners – a swordsman with the most powerful magic sword in the world but no magical ability of his own, and a demonseed who can step through shadows and punch through walls – he's going to put his plan into effect. The first step is to increase the size of the bounty on his head, so he'll need to steal some big things.

But he'll start small for now. He'll just steal something that no one will miss – at least for a while. Like a king.

The Legend of Eli Monpress includes the novels: The Spirit Thief, The Sprit Rebellion, and The Spirit Eater.

I think I like the new Harlequin covers.  I like that the photos take up the whole cover – makes them look much less dated.  I just quickly checked out the Harlequin site – it seems like their basic approach to photography hasn’t changed (Blazes still = naked torsos, Super Romances still =wholesome looking couples, etc) but the overall cover design is much more current looking (except the HPs, imo).

  2. Elyse says:

I read the last author’s name as Martha Stewart at 1st…

  3. Holly says:

Harlequin romances are the last bastion of romance novels that I’m embarrassed to read, mostly because of the covers. Well, the covers are better but still a hidden guilty pleasure (kind of like the bag of snack size kit kats I keep in my bottom drawer at work).

  4. Kelly S. says:

Elyse – I do that all the time

  5. hapax says:

I adore, adore, adore the Eli Monpress books, and it has nothing (NOTHING!) to do with my fetish for twisty thieves in my fantasy.

Well, maybe a little.  But there are also stoic swordsmen and adorable woobie demons and a badass sorceress and her dog / companion / best friend and angsty secret backgrounds and scheming gods and good bandits and bad bandits and spies and politicians and big honking world-shaking battles and a sweet, heartbreaking understated romance.

  6. PamG says:

Just want to second everything hapax says about Eli Monpress.  A wonderful, wonderful fantasy series with a great blend of dark complexity and character-based humor.  I love the way Aaron avoids moral absolutes and still achieve satisfying resolutions of the various conflicts within her universe.  Would appeal to lovers of Megan Whelan Turner.  Both authors create thief-centered fantasies, both are incredibly skilled character and world builders, and both are just wicked creative and original.

Also, what is up with the cover on Chain Reaction.  I love the older covers on Elkeles’s work, so dynamic.  This, however, is not merely static but just plain ugly.  What is that thing on his head? Looks like a sea anemone ate his head, then died.

  7. Sandra says:

I really liked the Eli Monpress books, too. So much so, that I broke my own rule of never paying more than MMPB prices for an ebook. (Books 4 & 5 are $9.99 @ BN.) I justified it by calculating that I got all five books for less than $22. But it was $22 well spent.
