Sizzling Book Club Pick for July: Ransom by Julie Garwood

Time to announce the July Book Club Pick! Our pick this month is a classic and a reader favorite: Ransom by Julie Garwood.

This is a book that inspires deep sighs of Good Book Noise™.

Summary? Here you go!

In the dark days after the death of Richard the Lionhearted, lives and lands would fall into upheaval at the hands of a power-hungry British ruler and his violent minions. One victim of the scourge is innocent Gillian, who is a mere child when the cruel and ambitious Baron Alford slaughters her father and tears her family apart. Alford, determined to recover a jeweled box for the despotic King John, is furious when the precious treasure slips through his fingers — only to be lost for more than a decade.

Now a beautiful young woman, Gillian finds the key to resolving her past in handsome Scottish chieftains Ramsey Sinclair and Brodick Buchanan. With the cunning and courage of the daring Scotsmen, and with the friendship of a new ally, Bridgid KirkConnell, Gillian at last fights the unscrupulous Baron Alford, laying claim to her home, her family, and her father’s reputation. But in the presence of the mighty warrors, Gillian and Bridgid discover that desire can be a weapon of conquest…betrayal can slay trust in a heartbeat…and the greatest risk of all is surrender — to the deep emotions of unexpected love.

As always, As always, All Romance eBooks is offering the 50% eBook Buck rebate if you use code SBTBARE at checkout. The rebate is good from July 1-15, 2013. The after-rebate price is $3.00 – not bad! You can find print copies at Amazon or at your local Public Library (US site).

This is a much-loved classic, and I cannot wait to discuss it with you. I’m working on a book club chat date, and I hope Ms. Garwood will join us. This book should bring an amazing discussion, and I hope you’ll give this book a try if you haven’t read it yet.

I have read this book at least a hundred times, and I’ll look forward to reading it again!

  2. Sara says:

This is my favorite Julie Garwood! I have read it I don’t know how many times!

  3. Bruseczek says:

I’m fairly sure that the first historical romance novel I’ve read was by Julie Garwood.
Slightly off topic: Some time ago I had a dream in which I time-travelled to the Middle Ages. There I was, in 12th century Scotland, on my way to the laird’s keep, when I bumped into my highschool crush. He took one smoldering look at me and said: “We both know life expectancy in the Middle Ages was short … let’s have sex!” 😉 I never expected my romance-infested subconscious to be so pragmatic.

  4. Debbie Goldstein says:

Great choice, Sarah! I love all of Julie Garwood’s historicals (with the exception of the last one which I actually don’t even believe she wrote herself!) and look forward to the book chat!

  5. SB Sarah says:

I am so happy you’re as excited as I am! This will be a very fun chat!

Love Ms Garwood’s historicals. I’ve read and enjoyed them all. Even the ones I didn’t love I still liked really hard. Wish there were more of them. According to her FAQ she hopes to return to Scotland but doesn’t know when that will be. I just never got into her contemporaries. *sigh*
