Romance Novel Reader Workout XII

burly bicep holding stack of booksTime for another romance reader workout! You ready? Because it’s weres weres everywheres!

If you like shapeshifter heroes, it’s time to get your workout in. If you were worrying about the post-RWA weight gain, there are now 12 complete workouts to try, so have fun!

Like the last few workouts, can do all these exercises with a mat and your own body. No handweights are needed unless you want to use some. Grab your latest romance and prepare to work!

Standard disclaimers still apply: dude, I’m really not a physician. I can recommend books to read but I can’t discern your state of health or your physical limitations so by all means work hard but be kind to yourself. To put it another way, ask your doctor before beginning any exercise regimen.

Drink plenty of water and read plenty of books.

And now, Romance Novel Reader Workout, Part XII, in graphic form suitable for pinning, sharing, printing, and pointing at!

 He’s a werewolf: 25 sit-ups He’s a were-lion: 25 push ups He’s a were-bear: 25 burpees He’s a were-dragon: 50 crunches He’s a were-bull: 50 high knees He’s a were-rat (and he’s the hero!): 1 min. plank He’s a were-poodle: 25 lunges He’s a were-blue-footed-booby: 15 jump squats He’s a were-hedgehog: 100 burpees He’s a were-honey-badger: 50 skaters He’s a were-alpaca: 50 jumping jacks

Remember, above all, unless you faint, puke, or die, KEEP READING! AND BREATHING!

Thank you to BigStock for the booklifting image!

If you read Kate Daniels 3 – Magic Strikes you almost get all of these.

    Were-wolf – Derek
    Were-lion – Curran
    Were-bear – Mahon
    Were-dragon – there’s a magician who does something dragon-like I think
    Were-bull – does a minotaur count?
    Were-rat – I know they’re in the keep
Were-poodle – Grendel the attack poodle
    Were-bluefootedbooby – Saimon’s true form is blue
Were-hedgehog – there’s a Golem who shoots out silver spikes like a hedgehog
    Were-honey badger – he’s the doc’!
    Were-alpaca – ok now you’ve stumped me.
(But there are were-jaguars, hyenas, almost blind white tigers and more!)

So if you read Ilona Andrews you’re going to get a mega-workout.  (Dammit – now I want to re-read this book.)

    I just saw a book with a were-hedgehog, but I don’t remember anything useful like a title.

There’s a rat shifter in Nalini Singh’s psy/changeling series, but only as a secondary character.  I saw her on her recent book tour and someone asked if was going to write something with the rat shifter as the hero.  She said maybe, and she also said half of her rat-shifter related mail really wants Teijan to find his mate and to get his own story and the other half is all eww, no, no rats mating.

I don’t see were-sloths on this list and I have read an m/m short story with a pair of were-sloths.

I think the next were list should include mating combinations – leopard and wolf, bear and bunny, hawk and swan etc.

    $20 says Were-honey badger don’t give a sheet.

  4. Calluna says:

I’ve read the were-hedgehog book! I heard about it a few months ago and had to go find it because I couldn’t believe it was real. It’s Hedging His Bets by Mina Carter and Celia Kyle.

I had a really hard time suspending my disbelief re: conservation of mass. It’s a problem with most shapeshifter stories, but especially if you’re going to have a seven-foot-tall 200-lb biker dude transform into a 6-inch hedgehog.

I finally decided that he becomes very, very dense, like a prickly neutron star.

  5. cleo says:

@Calluna – That’s the book! LOL.  I love your image of a “prickly neutron star”.

Capcha: clearly56 – clearly there are at least 56 different types of were-heroes

  6. UlrikeDG says:

Perfect timing. Magic Rises was released TODAY!

  7. Kelly says:

Shelly laurenston has a were honey badger! She is definitely pretty bad ass. Also were wolf, lion and bears. There are were wild dogs, which I suppose you could call a poodle (but definitely not to their faces).
