Win a Copy of It Had to Be You by Jill Shalvis

Would you like a book? Cool!

Book It Had to be YouJill Shalvis has offered up 10 digital copies and 10 paperback copies of It Had to Be You ( A | BN | KiB ), the latest in her Lucky Harbor series.

Here's the description:

Ali Winters is not having a good day. Her boyfriend left her, everyone in town thinks she's a thief, and now she's about to be kicked out of her home. Her only shot at keeping a roof over her head and clearing her name is to beg for help from a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern….

After a high-profile case goes wrong, Luke Hanover returns to his hometown for some peace and quiet. Instead he finds a bombshell brunette in a heap of trouble. As he helps Ali put her world back together, the pieces of Luke's own life finally seem to fall into place. Is this the start of a sizzling fling? Or are Luke and Ali on the brink of something big in a little town called Lucky Harbor?

One of the repeating themes of the book is happiness. The heroine had a rough start in life, and despite a lot of insecurity, both internal and external, she is determined to be okay. The beginning of the book lines up a whole series of problems for her to face, and she refuses to back down and stop trying to create a life for herself. Her optimism is a powerful thing.

The quotes people have highlighted from the book illustrate that, too. I like this one:

“I’m not defined by someone I thought I was dating, Luke, or what I do for a living. I’m not defined by what people think of me. My happiness comes from within….”

So, here's a question for you: what makes you happy? When you're feeling crappy or burned low, what reboots you and makes you feel happy and sure again? Share your happymaking tip (NOT THAT ONE) (OK FINE IF YOU WANT) in the comments, and you're entered to win.

Please also let me know if you want digital or print – or either.

The comments will close at noon on Sunday 16 June, and I'll announce the winners then.

Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to US and Canadian residents to the extent permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and wearing galoshes to win. Notwithstanding anything hereinafter to the contrary, the contest shall nonetheless be conducted as heretofore described thereupon. Action figures sold separately.

I hope this giveaway makes you happy – and that, if you win a copy, the book does, too.

Dancing always makes me happy.  Print or electronic works for me!

  2. JL says:

Reading, of course! Going on bike rides, snuggling in bed with my husband and baby on lazy mornings, and my nightly glass of wine are also key to being happy.
I’d love either a print or digital copy. It’s a Shalvis book, I’ll take it anyway I can get it 🙂

  3. JennyD says:

Our little nerdlet arrived a week and a half ago, so right now, happiness is a content baby sleeping in my arms while I’m still awake enough to read.

(Who am I kidding? Right now, happiness is sleep.)

    Print would be preferred.

  4. Lindsay says:

I’m happiest in the tub with a good book— I spend enough time in there that I’m pretty sure I’m part mermaid. I do love music, dancing and spending time with my husband and family, but I’m pretty sure the bathtub book club is winning by a hair.

I prefer digital as the last time I moved, 30 boxes of books came with me.

  5. Shawny J says:

I like to mow the lawn. It sounds silly, but it’s hard to be stressed about other things when you’re concentrating on keeping the lines straight and not taking your toes off.

If it’s the wrong time of year for mowing, chocolate helps, or a good cuddle with the cat.

    ebook plz

  6. SueX says:

I enjoy walking barefoot in the grass.  It feels nice and makes me happy.

I would love an ebook, but will gladly accept a paper copy.  Thanks!

  7. donnas says:

Its going away in a room by myself and reading a book I know I will really enjoy.  Also watching the cat sleeping or acting cute can work too.

I would love a paper copy buy could do a ebook.

  8. Emi says:

Baking – preferably cookies or cupcakes, mixed with my red KitchenAid which I bought back in high school with my own money from babysitting. One of the best investments I ever made.

There is also a lot to be said for a glass of red and an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Digital or print is fine; either way!

  9. Sveta says:

Unexpected surprises make me happy. Good unexpected surprises, not bad. Digital or print is fine either way. 😀

  10. Small happiness – fresh sheets on the bed. That is one of the best feelings in the world!

But when I’m in a bad mood and need to force myself to be happy, a ridiculously funny movie does the trick. Talladega Nights, Tropic Thunder, Hot Tub Time Machine – anything that makes fun of itself while making me laugh is perfect.

And I already won a book this year, so don’t pick somebody else if I win!

  11. Vick A says:

My happy place is out back on the patio with my reader with the dogs chilling in the yard.
    Digital please.

  12. Shari says:

Reading a great romance novel cover to cover without interruption, dark chocolate and reading this blog.

  13. Rhonda says:

I’m a newcomer to this site but this smart bitch has already bookmarked it!

When I need a pick-me-up I spend time with family or friends. I go where there is plenty of love and laughter! And I’m wearing my galoshes (that disclaimer me chuckle)!
If I win either kindle or paperback edition is fine.

  14. Joanne B says:

I love to sit on the side deck, on the glider, with a cool drink and a great book. Just the quiet is a wonderful way to cheer up.

  15. SandyH says:

For me, watching the sun rise over the mountains – peaceful and content.

  16. Jacqueline C. says:

Spending time with close friends, getting out of town for a fun trip, and reading good books make me happy.

  17. Alaina says:

seeing a baby bunny in my yard, which happens often this time of year! squeeee! (as for book format, either!!)

  18. Catherine says:

Baking pretty much works for me.  It’s strange how even if I’m feeling really exhausted and low-energy and miserable while I’m getting out ingredients, once I actually start cooking I feel energised and much happier.

  19. smallness says:

Playing with my nieces, for sure . Perspective is a good thing 🙂

Shopping would be a close second …

  20. Diane Sallans says:

A funny movie or a musical can make me happy.
    I’d love a print copy – Thanks!

  21. Julia says:

Baking is probably my number one, but going for a walk and reading (although not at the same time!) are both good.

Either format is great for me!

  22. Nicole says:

I love reading a good book or spending time cooking with family or friends.  (Print)

  23. Karine:) says:

For me, it’s a cup of tea and good music.  My definition of “good music” being quite different from 99,9% of the people, but who cares!

  24. Lee says:

My friends make me happy. When I need a boost, I reach out and check in with mah peeps! I’d love a digital print of this book. 🙂

  25. When I’m down, a nice hot bath, comfy pajamas, a delicious cup of coffee and a great book are all I need to feel better!

  26. Megan says:

Walking into a library with a list of books to find is really the greatest feeling. The only thing better is coming home with the big stack I acquire while I’m there. And either format is fine!

  27. Creating makes me happy…..whether it be a new cupcake to feed the ever hungry mouths….a new art cake for someone’s birthday……or a new art quilt made from scraps. When I’m done, I have a deep feeling of satisfaction.
But for a quick fix, there is nothing better than a quiet house, my bottle of water and my iPad loaded up with new books…….bliss…..
