Books On Sale

Books on Sale: Paranormal, Mysteries, and Historicals

Book First Grave on the RightFirst Grave on the Right is the first book in Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series, and it's $3.99 right now. I would call that a sorta-sale. When I've been at conferences with Jones, readers and authors come up to her and tell her how much they love this series. This book won the Golden Heart in 2009, and the RITA for Best First Book in 2012. Did you like this book, too?

Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people.

And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice.

Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all.

In fact, he might be something else entirely.

Book Lowcountry BoilLowcountry Boil is book one in Susan M. Boyer's Liz Talbot mystery series. It's on sale for .99c. The reviews say it has a wonderful of Southern setting, and it's a cozy mystery with a strong and smart protagonist. I've bought this as a gift for a friend and I am waiting to hear if she liked it. This book was a Golden Heart finalist in 2012, and won the Agatha Award for Best First Novel.

Private Investigator Liz Talbot is a modern Southern belle: she blesses hearts and takes names. She carries her Sig 9 in her Kate Spade handbag, and her golden retriever, Rhett, rides shotgun in her hybrid Escape.

When her grandmother is murdered, Liz high-tails it back to her South Carolina island home to find the killer. She’s fit to be tied when her police-chief brother shuts her out of the investigation, so she opens her own.

Then her long-dead best friend pops in and things really get complicated.

When more folks start turning up dead in this small seaside town, Liz must use more than just her wits and charm to keep her family safe, chase down clues from the hereafter, and catch a psychopath before he catches her.

Book My Wicked MarquessMy Wicked Marquess is $1.99, and is book 1 of the Infero Club series. The series has 6 books and focuses on a group of men whose membership in what seems to be a club devoted to debauchery and indulgence is really a cover for their activities as highly trained secret agents for the crown. (Like you do.)

To London's aristocracy, the Inferno Club is a scandalous society of men no proper young lady would acknowledge. But though they are publicly notorious for pursuing all manner of debauchery, in private they are warriors who would do anything to protect king and country.

The Marquess of Rotherstone has decided it's time to restore the family's good name. But as a member of the Inferno Club, he knows there is only one way to redeem himself in Society's eyes: marry a lady of impeccable beauty and breeding, whose reputation is, above all, spotless.

Someone quite unlike Daphne Starling.

True, she's temptingly lovely, but a jilted suitor has nearly ruined her reputation. Still, Max cannot resist her allure—or the challenge of proving London's gossips wrong. He would do anything to win her hand . . . and show that even a wicked marquess can make a perfect husband.

Yay for these sale posts!  I just bought Lowcountry Boil.  I was a mystery reader before getting into romance, and at that price it’s an easy buy.  Plus the little crab on the cover is cute.  🙂

Re. the Darynda Jones books, I read a few and they were not for me.  She has an entertaining voice, and the main character is interesting and fun, but I had problems buying into the premise behind who and what she is.  Also, the scenes with the love interest are pretty steamy, but there are aspects of him that appeared stalkerish to me.

I want the shoes on the first book’s cover

  3. Katie Lynn says:

I’ve read the entire (available) Charley Davidson series. I really enjoyed it. I cannot wait for the next one to come out. The concept is really well done and I enjoy the main character, though at times I wanted to punch the ‘love interest’ in the face. He starts to make much more sense as the books progress, so I suppose it is good that the author was able to bring me around on him as a character.

I would also like to point out that Dead Witch Walking is on sale (at least on amazon) for 1.99 today. It is the first in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, and I enjoy it very much.

Those shoes! The must be mine. I wonder if they exist outside the realm of Photoshop.

  6. Delia says:

Dread Pirate Rachel:  They exist but the price may take your breath away 🙂 Google Alexander McQueen skull sandals. There’s an entire line of skull sandals including the ones shown on the cover.

  7. Dread Pirate Rachel says:

@Delia, yeah, I saw those after I posted my comment. I’m sure I could just skip rent, student loans, and car payment for a month to buy those. There is no possible way that could backfire on me. 🙂

  8. Sarah H. says:

You have just convinced me to give Charley a try.

  9. Linda says:

I got the first Charley Davidson book when it was on sale before, but wondered if I’d like it, since the author said it “didn’t have a happily ever after,” or words to that effect.  Shockingly (for me), I promptly grew addicted and plowed through the whole series in record time, even staying up all night to finish one of them.  She’s just such a great story-teller!  And funnnnny!!  I have hopes that she was referring to the individual books not having an HEA, but that we’ll end up with one by the end of the series; it certainly has that tone.

  10. LisaJo885 says:

Is it just me, or did anyone else think they had read the Inferno Club books when Stephanie Laurens did them as the Bastion Club series?

captcha sure 33: sure I’m 33, I’ll go with that.
