Books on Sale: New Adult Titles, A Thriller, and One Mega Historical Fiction

Book Losing ItLosing It by Cora Carmack is $1.99. This is a contemporary new adult title, one that I heard a lot about at RT. If you're curious about new adult, this might be a good title to try.

 Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible– a one-night stand.

But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe.

And as if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She'd left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.

Book Faking ItFaking It is book two in Carmack's trilogy, and it's $2.99 right now. There is also a novella, Keeping Her, which is .99c.

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her.

Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going.

And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

 Book Love Lies Bleeding

Love Lies Bleeding is a psychological thriller of many narrators, many of whom are unreliable or just plain creepy. This isn't a romance, but when I read the description, I thought of at least three different people I know who would love this book – and it's $1.99 so I can buy it for them as a gift.

To what lengths would you go to keep a past buried?

Samantha Moore is the golden girl—with a perfect job, a perfect man, a perfect life—until a random act of violence changes everything. Unconscious for two months, Sam awakens from her coma a different person—bitter, in constant pain, and forced to endure medications that leave her nauseous, paranoid, and struggling to keep a grip on reality.

Furious with her family for sending her away to a small, remote town to recuperate—placed completely under a physical therapist’s care and robbed of what little freedom she has left—Sam lashes out at the “nice people” all around her who claim to have only her best interests in mind.

But are her violent outbursts the by-product of her condition . . . or something else entirely?

Strange things are happening here—and either Samantha Moore is losing her mind or her friendly new neighbors are far more dangerous than they appear to be. . . .

Book QuicksilverQuicksilver is today's Kindle Daily Deal at $1.99, and it is a mega whopping historical fiction. The description is exhausting – and again, I thought of at least two different readers I know who would like it.

Set against the backdrop of the late 17th and early 18th centuries, Quicksilver tells the intertwining tales of 3 unforgettable main characters (descendants of characters from Cryptonomicon) as they traverse a landscape populated by mad alchemists, Barbary pirates, and bawdy courtiers, as well as historical figures including Ben Franklin, William of Orange, Louis XIV, and many others.

This breathtaking story ranges from the American colonies to the Tower of London to the glittering palace at Versailles, and all manner of places in between–and plays out during a singular nexus point in history, when rationality triumphed over mysticism, monarchy was overthrown, markets become free, and religious tolerance gained ground over harsh oppression.

It is the story of Daniel Waterhouse, fearless thinker and conflicted Puritan, pursuing knowledge in the company of the greatest minds of Baroque-era Europe, in a chaotic world where reason wars with the bloody ambitions of the mighty, and where catastrophe, natural or otherwise, can alter the political landscape overnight.

It is a chronicle of the breathtaking exploits of “Half-Cocked Jack” Shaftoe–London street urchin turned swashbuckling adventurer and legendary King of the Vagabonds–risking life and limb for fortune and love while slowly maddening from the pox… and Eliza, rescued by Jack from a Turkish harem to become spy, confidante, and pawn of royals in order to reinvent a contentious continent through the newborn power of finance.

A gloriously rich, entertaining, and endlessly inventive novel that brings a remarkable age and its momentous events to vivid life–a historical epic populated by the likes of Samuel Pepys, Isaac Newton, William of Orange, Benjamin Franklin, and King Louis XIV–Quicksilver is an extraordinary achievement from one of the most original and important literary talents of our time. And it's just the beginning

  1. Quicksilver is an awesome book and a bargain at $1.99. A word of warning – it is very long and there are 2 other very long books in the series as well as a more modern day book as well. It is a fantastic reading experience for the right reader and reading it on an ereader is a definite improvement over reading it as a very, very heavy hard cover book.

  2. shawny J says:

LOVED Losing It. Maybe because it was a published version of all my awkward teenage drama nerd daydreams (starring role, hot older actor madly in love with me, what’s not to love?), but I just inhaled it in one sitting around Christmas this year.

  3. JMM says:

Does “Love Lies Bleeding” have a “hopeful” ending? It sounds great, but I can’t really do the “hero/ine dies at the end/loses everything” bit.
