Books on Sale: An A- Reviewed Recommended Comedy plus Contemporary Romance and Romantic Suspense

Book The Marrying KindRECOMMENDED. The Marrying Kind is currently .99c. It's an expensive book otherwise, so if you're curious about it, please grab it! I loved this book. I reviewed it here and gave it an A-. Seriously. It's $1. Go buy it already. I hope you laugh as much as I did.

From my review:

When reading this book, I never felt hit over the head with A Message, and I worried that I would. Instead, I Got The Point because of how much I hurt for Adam and for Steven when the million little ways they are excluded coalesced into a toast at a rehearsal dinner. I got The Point about how meaningful it was to stop attending family weddings for two men who honestly and openly love their families. This book made me laugh and made my heart hurt, and I loved the experience of reading it.

Wedding planner Adam More has an epiphany: He has devoted all his life’s energy to creating events that he and his partner Steven are forbidden by federal law for having for themselves. So Adam decides to make a change.

Organizing a boycott of the wedding industry, Steven and Adam call on gay organists, hairdressers, cater-waiters, priests, and hairdressers everywhere to get out of the business and to stop going to weddings, too.

In this screwball, romantic comedy both the movement they’ve begun and their relationship are put in jeopardy when Steven’s brother proposes to Adam’s sister and they must decide whether they’re attending or sending regrets.

Wow. Glitter Baby has a better cover at BN but a much higher price. I’d recommend it for the sale price if you like early SEP with crazy, larger than life characters, epic plots and a side helping of wtf.  I read the revised version and I enjoyed it. SEP does humiliate and treat her poor heroine badly but her triumph is quite satisfactory. Lots of dress porn. Lots of eighties references. Lots of wtf.

Psyched about the Ken ONeill. Was intrigued when it came out. Just bought it.

The cover of Glitter Baby is a piece of art; you have to bring something of yourself to it.  It requires you ask: what IS a book cover?  It then scoffs at you and corrects your misconception.  I am a book cover, says the book cover of a book cover.  When you gaze upon me you will marvel at all the absence of all of your expectations being met.  Then you will gaze upon the other lavish covers that careen through the romance aisles of your local ebook emporium and you will weep.  Weep bitter tears.  Weep, for the loss reckoning inside you and the joyous mindbending brilliance of the publisher who enclosed a book within a cover… of a book.

Loved The Marrying Kind……what a great deal!

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me with that kind of crap”

Are you including the content as well as the cover? I have to say that this is not my favorite SEP…..to be blunt…..it totally sucks.

@SarahB: I really like the gal in the SBTB ad for Tessa Dare.  She’s very pretty.

  4. I bought Glitter Baby because it was a good book and I have most of SEP’s books.  However, if Iwas new to the author I might have not bought it because of the crappy cover (non) art.  I see a lot of good ebargains every day and if the cover grabs me. I look at the blurb and then buy.  This wouldn’t have made the cut.

  5. Vasha says:

That is actually the standard Kindle “no-cover-art” cover—I have it on several “Discworld” books, for example. There’s half the mystery solved; but it leaves unanswered why they didn’t manage to get the real cover art.

  6. Jessica says:

Is Glitter Baby worth finishing?  It’s currently a DNF for me.  I tried to read it and enjoy it but I wanted to hit all of the characters over the head with the book.  If y’all think that I should give it a second shot then I will.  I still own a paperback copy of it.

  7. Sharon says:

Jessica, SEP is an autobuy for me ad hwen I first bought litter Baby,  had difficulty reading it as well. I ended up listening to the audio version and really enjoying it.  I would say try again because it really is a pretty good book.

  8. cleo says:

Jessica – I liked the second half a lot more than the first, but early SEP really is not for everyone.
