Ah, scoundrels with color changing pants! They are so marvelous. You may recall London's Last True Scoundrel and his wardrobe challenge: he (or his publisher) can't decide what color pants to wear.
There's Buff:
Then there's Brown and Furry-looking:
But imagine my surprise when I received an email from author Christina Brooke, who wrote,
“I'm laughing at your blog post on cover double takes–I've had that comment a lot about my hero's pants on LONDON'S LAST TRUE SCOUNDREL. In between the buff pants and the dark brown there was a delightful shade of…. Which is now immortalized in ARC form.”
Your challenge to win this rare and immortalized wardrobe selection in ARC format: GUESS THE COLOR.
What color were his pants on the ARC? Leave your answer in the comments, and you're entered to win. You don't have to get it right. You just have to guess.
I'll select the winner at random on Friday 24 May at 12:00pm ET. Christina Brooke is providing the prize: a copy of the ARC of London's Last True Scoundrel, with the magical pants – and she will ship anywhere in the world (Thank you ma'am!).
Standard disclaimers apply: I am not being compensated for this giveaway. I am, however, wearing pants. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents were permissible by applicable law. Must be over 18 and wearing pants to enter. Your mileage may very. Close cover before striking. Objects in mirror may be closer to pants than they appear. Tumble dry low.
So… what color were his pants?
I’d say blue because then it’d look like he was a floating torso with the pants merging with the background…
How about a lovely silver lamé
I’ll go with lavender.
Now can we talk about the sunburn on his front and strange tan on his back? A more appropriate tag line: “When he was bad, he was so very in danger of skin cancer”.
I say lavender.
I’m going to go with a lovely paisley. In bright blue and peacock green with hints of gold and burgundy. In a word: Fabulous!
I’m thinking some dark red shade that was supposed to look attractive and roguish, but instead made it look like our hero is simply (terrifyingly) covered in blood.
His pants on the ARC are a lovely shade of puce. The publisher was concerned about a Regency-era wardrobe malfunction.
I’m going to go with dark blue, just because that’s easy to photo-paint and generally seems to be considered a manly-man colour in romance covers.
But a romance hero truly secure in himself will wear Unmentionables in purple with pink polka dots, with a bit of sheen to set off the powerful thighs and unpadded calves. Take note, authors 🙂
I’m going to piggy back on Julie in AZ and say, gold lame’. Who can resist a man in shiny pants.
Baby poop brown, since it is between buff and bear fur on the color wheel of crazy.
Olive. Plot and genre twist: human on top, lizard on the bottom. No idea what color the drapes were, though.
Capcha: stage12. What were the first 11 stages? I’m keen to know.
I wanted to say puce just because I love saying it, but quite a few others beat me to it. So I’m going to guess black/white with a delightful mix of stripes and checks. I just envision our lovely “scoundrel” working as a Harlequin in his spare time.
Blood red – like he’s been in a sword fight and nicked his femoral artery… and before he dies, he needs to “be with” the heroine one … last … time…
I was going to say raisin, because puce has already been claimed. But my immediate reaction was puce. But on second thought, not raisin. It’s such a hard choice.
Ok, my final answer is pink. Christina states that “there was a delightful shade of . . .” and I’m not sure there are shades of puce, are there? And I doubt there are shades of raisin. But I do know there are shades of pink.
I’m going to go with my favorite crayon color name: purple mountain majesty. I’m sure he would totally go for it 😉
I’m going with yellow. Yuck
My guess is that they switched it up but kept with the same colors and his pants were blue.
How about a nice light “peach” !!
How about dove grey, I’ve seen lots of gowns described as that color in historical novels, so why not pants!
I agree with whoever said “burnt umber.” but thats my default “historical pants” color. If not that…
Is he standing in a room full of water? Is he a pirate captain? Also, just noticed the curtains changed from the first cover to the second; with the blue curtains it could be a mustard yellow, but with the red, it could be a navy or cerulean.
I’m thinking the pants were purple.
I really liked the ivory suggestion, but on the whole, blue to match the carpet seems the most likely given the examples we have.
I’m going with ivory as well, though my first instinct was more of a taupe.
But bottle green was a close second.
I’m guessing blue because of the changes in the drapery to offset the pants.
LOL this is one book I am really looking forward to reading and I am going to guess buff
Have Fun
Helen
Merman’s tail green!
If your book is supposed to be racy, I would start with the buff and end with the maroon – a bit more figure defining.
If your story is more romantic than racy, I would opt for the more to the less.
For myself, either works…
Don’t know wny but “bottle green” comes to mind – whatever that is.
Sapphire blue.
I guess they were blue/black Color on the arc. 🙂
I’m going to go with Salmon.
I was going to say puce, but I was beaten to it so I’ll say celadon instead.
Bright purple. Neon purple.
I am going to have to go with Mustard Yellow.
I really think they should be blush! Blush would be perfect!
Green, I think. For envy of all the non scoundrels.
Purple.
Well mint seems to be big this spring, I’ll vote mint.
Magical Magenta Pants!
[Captcah is “used68,” so I guess they were actually faded psychedelic…]
I’m thinking baby poo brown.
