Sizzling Book Club Pick for April: Family Man by Marie Sexton and Heidi Cullinan

Book Family Man - Marie Sexton Heidi CullinanTime to announce the April Book Club Pick! Ready? The April pick is Family Man by Marie Sexton and Heidi Cullinan.

Summary? Of course!

Sometimes family chooses you.

How does a man get to be forty without knowing whether he’s gay? That’s a question Vince Fierro is almost afraid to answer. If he is gay, it’ll be a problem for his big, fat Italian family. Still, after three failed marriages, he can’t help but wonder if he’s been playing for the wrong team.

There’s only one way to settle it, once and for all—head for Chicago’s Boystown bars, far from anyone who knows him. Naturally, he runs smack into someone from the neighborhood.

Between working two jobs, going to school, taking care of his grandmother, and dealing with his mother’s ongoing substance abuse, Trey Giles has little time for fun, let alone dating someone who swears he’s straight. Yet after one night of dancing cheek-to-cheek to the sultry strains of Coltrane, Trey finds himself wanting to help Vinnie figure things out—no promises, and no sex.

It seems like a simple plan, until their “no-sex” night turns into the best date of their lives and forges a connection that complicates everything.

Samhain frequently publishes disclaimers at the bottom of their summaries, which are my favorite parts of their book covers. The “warning” for this one is:

Warning: This book deals with alcoholism, broken promises, and overbearing little sisters.

That it does. I thought this book was surprisingly sweet and powerful. If you're used to m/m romances being very erotic, please note that this one is very mellow in the sexual depictions – but there's a slow growing tension and attraction between the main characters that's wonderfully done.

As always, All Romance eBooks is offering the 50% eBook Buck rebate if you use code SBTBARE at checkout. The rebate is good from April 8-19, 2013.

And we have a chat date, too!  The Book Club Chat will be Thursday 25 April at 9:00pm ET.  Marie Sexton and Heidi Cullinan will join us at 10pm ET for a Q&A.

For once, I’ve already read a book club book – that rarely happens.  I think I pre-ordered this in January, I was that excited about it – both authors are auto-buys for me. I read it the day it come out (in March I think) and I liked it, but I wasn’t crazy about it. I don’t even remember why now – perhaps too much anticipation?  I do remember being taken aback by the switch between 1st person and 3rd person pov – I’m curious what others think about that.  I’ll have to re-read it for the chat and see how it stands up.

How do they deal with one of them being the Highlander (Adrian Paul) 🙂

I’m biased, because I help Heidi and Marie over at the cupop*rn blog, but I still think that is one of the sexiest covers I’ve seen in ages, particularly when you consider that everyone still has their clothes on. Super pumped for this pick!

  4. Amy K says:

  5. Paisley says:

I laughed, I cried, I fanned my cheeks.  This is a lovely book.
