Books on Sale: Tessa Dare’s Spindle Cove Series!

Book A Night to Surrender

A Night to Surrender is book 1 in Tessa Dare's Spindle Cove trilogy, and it's .99c. I really liked the series (though this was my least favorite of the books). The setting is wonderful and the characters, especially the women, are fantastic. This book was nominated for a RITA so there are two RITA Reader Challenge reviews: HarperGray gave it a C+ and Kelly gave it an A-. (And yes, we will be doing the RITA Reader Challenge this year – stay tuned!).

Welcome to Spindle Cove, where the ladies with delicate constitutions come for the sea air, and men in their prime are… nowhere to be found. Or are they?

Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the painfully shy, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men; it is a haven for those who live there. Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn't belong here.

So far as he can tell, there's nothing in this place but spinsters… and sheep. But he has no choice, he has orders to gather a militia. It's a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch—a woman who is determined to save her personal utopia from the invasion of Bram's makeshift army.

Susanna has no use for aggravating men; Bram has sworn off interfering women. The scene is set for an epic battle… but who can be named the winner when both have so much to lose?

Book Upon a Winter's Eve

Upon a Winter's Eve is a novella in the Spindle Cove world was published by Samhain, and is also .99c (but I think it usually is). However, if you like reading your series in order, this is book #1.5.

Violet Winterbottom is a quiet girl. She speaks six languages, but seldom raises her voice. She endured bitter heartbreak in perfect silence. The gentlemen aren't beating down her door. Until the night of the Spindle Cove Christmas ball, when a mysterious stranger crashes into the ballroom and collapses at Violet's feet.

His coarse attire and near-criminal good looks would put any sensible young lady on her guard. He's wet, chilled, bleeding, and speaking in an unfamiliar tongue. Only Violet understands him. And she knows he's not what he seems.

She has one night to draw forth the secrets of this dangerously handsome rogue. Is he a smuggler? A fugitive? An enemy spy? She needs answers by sunrise, but her captive would rather seduce than confess. To learn his secrets, Violet must reveal hers and open herself to adventure, passion, and the unthinkable… Love.

Warning: The heroine packs a pistol, the hero curses in multiple languages, and together they steam up a cold winter s night.

Book A Week to be Wicked

A Week to be Wicked is a book for every girl who has felt that her intellectual pursuits made her so unique she was lonely – and for every girl who loved dinosaurs. It's book #2 in the series, it's a road trip romance, and it's .99c.

Minerva Highwood, one of Spindle Cove's confirmed spinsters, needs to be in Scotland. Colin Sandhurst, Lord Payne, a rake of the first order, needs to be…anywhere but Spindle Cove.

These unlikely partners have one week to
• fake an elopement
• convince family and friends they're in “love”
• outrun armed robbers
• survive their worst nightmares
• travel four hundred miles without killing each other

All while sharing a very small carriage by day and an even smaller bed by night. What they don't have time for is their growing attraction. Much less wild passion. And heaven forbid they spend precious hours baring their hearts and souls. Suddenly one week seems like exactly enough time to find a world of trouble. And maybe…just maybe…love.

Book A Lady by Midnight

RECOMMENDED OMGLOVED IT: A Lady by Midnight is my favorite of the Spindle Cove series (so far). I gave it an A- when I reviewed it:

A Lady By Midnight contained all of those things I loved. A hero denying to himself how much he adored the heroine. A heroine who didn't understand why he rejected her but attempted to persevere anyway. And Definite Reasons why the hero made himself so miserable, reasons that, when revealed, revealed more about him and about her. It's delicious.

After years of fending for herself, Kate Taylor found friendship and acceptance in Spindle Cove—but she never stopped yearning for love. The very last place she'd look for it is in the arms of Corporal Thorne. The militia commander is as stone cold as he is brutally handsome.

But when mysterious strangers come searching for Kate, Thorne steps forward as her fiancé. He claims to have only Kate's safety in mind. So why is there smoldering passion in his kiss?

Long ago, Samuel Thorne devoted his life to guarding Kate's happiness. He wants what's best for her, and he knows it's not marriage to a man like him. To outlast their temporary engagement, he must keep his hands off her tempting body and lock her warm smiles out of his withered heart. It's the toughest battle of this hardened warrior's life . . . and the first he seems destined to lose.

And finally:

Book Any Duchess Will Do Any Duchess Will Do is discounted for digital preorder between $4.75 – $4.99, and $5.38-$5.99 for paper preorder. I haven't read this book yet. I have a copy. I am trying so hard to resist reading it but I want to so badly – and I'm trying to save it for closer to the release date because I have a very good feeling I'll be releasing epic squeeage and doing that when the book isn't out for two months makes me feel like a giant douchebucket. But I am so excited for this book – and the reviews are so positive, too.

Griffin York, the Duke of Halford, has no desire to wed this season–or any season–but his diabolical mother abducts him to “Spinster Cove” and insists he select a bride from the ladies in residence. Griff decides to teach her a lesson that will end the marriage debate forever. He chooses the serving girl.

Overworked and struggling, Pauline Simms doesn't dream about dukes. All she wants is to hang up her barmaid apron and open a bookshop. That dream becomes a possibility when an arrogant, sinfully attractive duke offers her a small fortune for a week's employment. Her duties are simple: submit to his mother's “duchess training”… and fail miserably.

But in London, Pauline isn't a miserable failure. She's a brave, quick-witted, beguiling failure–a woman who ignites Griff's desire and soothes the darkness in his soul. Keeping Pauline by his side won't be easy. Even if Society could accept a serving girl duchess–can a roguish duke convince a serving girl to trust him with her heart?

Oh Gawd, I seriously don’t need another series to follow!  I’m knee-deep in Maiden Lane, panting for the next Smythe-Smith, anxious for the final Dressmaker, finally rewarded with a new Muses of Mayfair, behind on the new Fairy Tale, about to start The Brothers Sinister, can’t forget Eve Dallas, and putting off reading the Duchess in Love trio til summer. Aargh, these look so awesome and $0.99 is a price not to be passed up. And you know I can’t read them out of order and the last one to be released looks like it’ll be my favorite. (Common serving girl who charms the ton and the hero with her spunkiness? Cinderella was always my favorite fairy tale.  Plus she wants to open a bookstore? SQUEE.)

PS – Please let me know if I’m missing any fabulous romance series?

  2. SB Sarah says:

LOLOL. You have a MUCH better memory for series names than I do – and yes, you still want to pick this one up while it’s on sale. You can get the first three for $3. And they’re just lovely. It’s worth it. Pinky swear!

  3. A Night to Surrender is my least favorite, too. If it hadn’t been for the sample of A Week to Be Wicked at the end, I probably wouldn’t have ever read another Tessa Dare. I didn’t hate it; I was just kind of meh. Fortunately, the sample was there, because the rest of the books in the series are amazing. Amazing, I tell you! This is now one of my all-time favorite series. Naturally, I pre-ordered the new novella and the next full-length novel.

    While my wallet gently weeps…

  4. Tamara Hogan says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series, but as I mentioned to Tessa on Twitter, I’m disappointed that Diana doesn’t get a full-length novel of her own.

  5. Shana says:

Oh lordy I loved this series. I think I would have been perfectly happy living in Spindle Cove.

Thanks for the heads up on the pre-order sales. Purchased (and my wallet curses).

  6. Kelly S says:

I too am disappointed that Diana doesn’t get her own book, poor girl deserves one.

My favorite scene in the series too appear in A Night to surrender.  I LOVE Collin’s speech! I also love Dinner. 😉

The series is totally worth buying at regular price so snatch them up while on sale!
