Back home after a deployment in Iraq and looking for work as a civilian, Caleb signs on as Ellen’s bodyguard. After combat in the hot desert sun, this job should be a breeze. But guarding the willful beauty is harder than he imagined—and Caleb can’t resist the temptation to mix business with pleasure.

Book Daisy's Back in Town

Daisy's Back in Town is book 1 in Gibson's Lovett, Texas, series. It's currently on sale for $1.99 digitally. Some readers looooove this book, while others find the secret baby plotline very frustrating.

Daisy Lee Monroe thought she'd brushed the dust of Lovett, Texas, off her high-heeled shoes years ago, but she's come back home only to find that little has changed. Her sister is still crazy, and her mom still has pink plastic flamingos in her front yard. And Jackson Lamott Parrish, the bad boy she'd left behind, is still so sexy it hurts. She'd like nothing better than to avoid this particular man, but she can't. Daisy has something to say to Jackson, and she's not going anywhere until he listens.

Jackson learned his lesson about Daisy the hard way, and now the only word he's interested in hearing from Daisy's red lips is good-bye. But she's popping up everywhere, and he doesn't believe in coincidence. It seems the only way to keep her quiet is with his mouth, but kissing Daisy had once been his downfall. Is he strong enough to resist her now? Strong enough to watch her walk out of his life again? Is he strong enough to make her stay?

 Book Rescue Me

Rescue Me is book #3 in the Lovett, Texas, series, and is $2.99 digitally. Book #2 is a novella, Crazy On You, which is available digitally for $1.99 ( A | BN | K | S | iB ). You could pick up the whole series so far for about $7. Not bad!

She’s 33, unmarried, and stuffed into a Bubble Yum pink bridesmaid dress. And the whole town wants to fix her up with anyone with a dental plan… Who’s going to rescue Sadie Hollowell now?

Everyone in Lovett, Texas knows Sadie has always been a ‘notional’ kind of gal. She got a notion to leave town ASAP and never visit her daddy (bless his heart). Now, she’s back and got the notion to invite a good-looking, hard-muscled, total stranger to her cousin’s wedding. Better a stranger than some of the losers she’s dated.

Vince Haven got his muscles the hard way–as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan. He’s staying in Lovett to visit his crazy aunt–the proprietor of the local Gas N Go. Before he can get the heck back out of the small town, his aunt makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Maybe he’ll stick around Lovett for a while. Maybe he’ll make a ‘go’ of the Gas N Go.

Maybe he’ll rescue Sadie out of that pink dress!

I really enjoyed Ruthie Knox’s book. But, I always do. Her characters are so complicated and flawed. The H & H really have to overcome to real life baggage to make their relationship work and this one was no different. Ellen has come out of a controlling relationship and is very sensitive to men not listening to her wishes as she directs her own life and the life of her son. It took years to establish trust in herself and to break out of that victimhood, but she did it. The hero comes from a place where to love someone means to take care of them and every little detail so they don’t have to worry about it. As a veteran, he is a bit obsessive about keeping people safe and commanding his troops.  It really sets up an interesting play between them. And always with heat and humor.

Maybe my Google-fu is failing today, but can anyone tell me if this Rachel Gibson (whose books are awesome and super sexy, IMHO) is the same Rachel Gibson that wrote The Christian Way to Make Your Bedroom Sizzle and How to Protect Your Children From Satan and His Demons?

Just noticed them in the Kobo store, and am now dying of curiosity!

  3. Dread Pirate Rachel says:

I’ve got a secret weakness for bodyguard romances. I even love the Kevin Costner/Whitney Houston vehicle, despite all its campiness and myriad flaws. Thanks to @GenghisMom’s rec, I’ll be diving into Along Came Trouble on my flight this weekend.

Also, @Amelia, that is hilarious, and I really want it to be true. Please, please, please, let it be true!

  4. GenghisMom says:

Rachel, I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the secondary romance.

  5. Dread Pirate Rachel says:

@GenghisMom, I’ll try to remember to post an update when I’m done.

I wish somebody would write a book with a feminist, beta, rockstar-chef-bodyguard hero, because then all of my favorite book crack elements would be present.

  6. GenghisMom says:

@Rachel, can he have a horse? I just can’t help it, I love a man on a horse. Doesn’t have to be cowboy, just comfortable in the saddle.
