Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Tycoon Mindreaders!

Help a Bitch OutKavya is looking for this book – which is rather recent but a book I totally missed reading. And I want to read this – sounds kind of amazing:

I read this book in high school, borrowed from a classmate, so it must have been around 2004-05. I don’t remember if it was new then though. I’m pretty sure it was a Harlequin Presents as the hero was a rich Italian guy (as they often are) and it begins with him tracking down the wife who had run away from him (as they often do).

The distinctive thing about this book, however, was that the heroine was psychic. She could read minds or sense feelings or something of the sort. It was this feature that had me wondering if it was indeed a Presents novel, because you don’t usually get psychic heroines in a Harlequin unless it’s a paranormal. But then recently I found a Presents with a time-travelling hero, so maybe I wasn’t wrong about the mind-reading heroine.

So, back to the book: After the hero finds her and they are talking, at one point the heroine wonders if he’s been with other women since they split and he tells her that he hasn’t. She then realizes that she didn’t ask him that question out loud! HE read HER mind, even though she’s supposed to be the psychic one. They figure out later that he thought of her so constantly since she left him that it sort of created a psychic bond between them – I thought this was incredibly romantic and it’s probably the reason I want to find this book (and also, to prove I didn’t imagine it).

Anyway, the hero then gets kidnapped, him being super-rich and all, and with the ‘psychic connection’ between them, the heroine and him have a telepathic conversation and she is able to tell the police where to find him. If I’m not confusing it with another book, I think the cover featured a woman with black shoulder-length hair. Also, the hero might have owned a vineyard – either that or the heroine is working in a vineyard/garden when he finds her.

Do you recognize this book?

Could it be Dark Fate by Charlotte Lamb? Originally published in 1995. There’s a Kindle edition for $3.82.

Got it in one, I think, AK. All the details are there, including the heroine being a gardener. Interesting that the OP didn’t mention all the angst about having children—I guess that tends to not interest teenagers.

How does the heroine get her happy ending?  Because being able to tell the police where the kidnappers have stashed her husband is not at all suspicious….

But it’s a Harlequin, so who cares about that annoying logic thing?

Also reminds me so much of an old fave “Mystery Lover” by Annette Broadrick.  “Some men send flowers, some send cards.  But Chad was different.  He sent his thoughts -literally!”  Published in 87 through Silhouette, I loved this book!  After she is in a car wreck as a child, she begins to communicate telepathically with her new friend.  As she grows up, they keep in contact (sometimes at inconvenient moments).  Chad later gets kidnapped and must depend on her to find him.  If you can find it, you should read it!
