Book Heartstrings and Diamond Rings

Heartstrings and Diamond Rings is $2.99 digitally, and is one of the most recommended contemporary romances whenever I ask for suggestions. Many Goodreads reviewers effusively praise the dialogue and the comedy.

In a world full of frogs, Alison Carter is determined to find her prince. Maybe her dating past is more Titanic than Love Boat, but she's seen enough happy marriages to know that true love is possible. No matter what, she won't give up on happily-ever-after. If she can't find Mr. Right, she'll simply hire someone who can.

When Brandon Scott inherits a successful matchmaking business, he thinks his prayers have been answered. Set up a few lonely ladies, collect the fee, how hard can it be? No one needs to know he's not really a professional matchmaker-especially not his first client, the beautiful, spirited Alison.

Soon he's falling for her-and her dreams of kids and carpools. But Alison is getting close to figuring out his secret, and if she learns he's deceived her too, she'll walk right out the door, taking Brandon's heart with her.

Book My First Murder

@MsBookJunkie brought this book to my attention. My First Murder is .99c at Amazon. This is an English translation of the first book of a Finnish series. MsBookjunkie says it's awesome, and that “…It's also the first Finnish book I've come across on Kindle & I'm excited! Female detective! Helsinki! Squeeeee!”

When I asked why she liked it, she explained that the heroine is “a short female cop (actually a law student—former cop, earning money during summer break) in a very male environment And oops! She knows victim & suspects at some level from uni & thru former roomie. But…police are understaffed so she must keep doing her job, trying to solve murder. And she's attracted to one of the suspects. Anyway, it's complicated for heroine. Has to deal w/misogyny @ job, has conflicting emotions abt these former acquantances.”

When I asked about the gore level, she said, “No, don't recall gore. It's more focused on the solving of the murder & heroine's daily life as cop. Btw, she's competent! :)” I'm so curious, because you know how I love Nordic-set books like the Kasja Ingemarrson book.

Maria Kallio has just been assigned her first murder investigation. To prove to herself and her squad that she has what it takes to be a detective, she’ll have to solve the death of Tommi Peltonen. Found floating facedown at the water’s edge of his Helsinki villa, Tommi had invited his choir group to spend a weekend at his retreat.

But beneath the choir’s seemingly tight-knit bonds seethed bitter passion and jealousy. As Maria sets out to determine the difference between friends and foes, she uncovers the victim’s unsavory past—and motives for all seven suspects. Now it’s up to her to untangle a complex set of clues before the killer strikes again.

Book The book of tomorrow

This book is billed as a gothic tale with what seems like a hint of romance (librarian romance!), and also as a fantasy YA. The Book of Tomorrow is $1.99 digitally.

Tamara Goodwin has always got everything she's ever wanted. Born into a family of wealth, she grew up in a mansion with its own private beach, a wardrobe full of designer clothes and all that a girl could ever wish for. She's always lived in the here and now, never giving a second thought to tomorrow.

But then suddenly her dad is gone and life for Tamara and her mother changes forever. Left with a mountain of debt, they have no choice but to sell everything they own and move to the country. Nestled next to Kilsaney Castle, their gatehouse is a world away from Tamara's childhood.

With her mother shut away with grief, and her aunt busy tending to her, Tamara is lonely and bored and longs to return to Dublin. When a travelling library passes through Kilsaney Demesne, Tamara is intrigued. Her eyes rest on a mysterious large leather bound tome locked with a gold clasp and padlock. What she discovers within the pages takes her breath away and shakes her world to its core.

  1. I read MY FIRST MURDER years and years ago and remember thinking it should be translated so more people could enjoy it. And now it has! Into several languages. Squeeeeee!

    Give it a try, eh?

Also, if you get the Kindle copy, you can slip on over to Audible for a special (very low!) price on the audiobook. The narration seems decent, even though she mispronounces all names of people and places in the sample. But that’s only to be expected. 😉

  2. The Jane Graves novel isn’t even available digitally for European readers (at least not for this German reader). *sigh* I HATE geographical restrictions!
