Books on Sale: Historicals from Kate Noble, Sally MacKenzie, and Anna Randol

If I Fall - Kate Noble

RECOMMENDED: You might recognize Kate Noble's name from reviews of her books here and at Kirkus, or you might be a fan of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries – she's one of the show's writers. If I Fall is $1.99, and is well worth it. It has a wonderfully flawed heroine, a character jilted by the hero of a different book. This story explores the aftermath of that experience. Noble is one of my favorite historical romance writers, and I hope you enjoy this book!

Every great romance comes with a risk…

After a duke's betrayal, the resilient Sarah Forrester reinvents herself as the Golden Lady: society's leading light, the beautiful and witty life of the party.

It's all a façade of course-one that protects her from another intimate disloyalty.

When her old friend, Lieutenant Jackson Fletcher, returns to London, he is determined to rediscover the true and trusting Sarah he once knew. It'll take more than a kiss and a promise. It might even call for an innocent and necessary deception.

Book Bedding Lord Ned - Sally MacKenzie

Bedding Lord Ned is $1.99 digitally. This book has a 3.6-star average at Goodreads, and is the first in MacKenzie's Duchess of Love series. There is a prequel novella, and the next book, Surprising Lord Jack, comes out March 5.

Determined to find a husband, Miss Eleanor “Nell” Bowman attends a ball put on by the Duchess of Greycliffe, fondly referred to as the Duchess of Love. But she roundly dismisses the suitors the matchmaking hostess has invited on her behalf. For it's the duchess's dashing son Ned, Lord Edward, who long ago captured Nell's heart–and roused her desire.

All it takes is a pair of conveniently misplaced silky red bloomers to set the handsome widower's gaze on this unusual girl who is clearly more than meets the eye…

After more than a year of mourning, Ned longs to finally start anew. At first glance, the birthday ball his mother has thrown in his honor is decidedly lacking in suitable mistresses. But he senses something unexpectedly alluring beneath the veil of Nell's plain exterior–something she's anxious to reveal, and the lonely Lord is incapable of denying…

Book A Secret in Her Kiss - Anna Randol

This book is something unique: it takes place outside of England – in 1815 Constantinople (not Istanbul). When I read it, I wasn't enchanted with the hero and felt the details of how they acted didn't fit with the social restrictions of the setting, to the point that it yanked me out of the story. But other reviews of the book online indicate many readers enjoyed it far, far more than I did. It has a 3.71 average at GoodReads.

A rare beauty, raised in the exotic heart of the mysterious East, Mari Sinclair knows it’s time to end her career as a British spy when she narrowly avoids a brush with death. Unfortunately, there are those who think otherwise—and they are not above using blackmail to keep Mari in the game.

Saddled with a handsome, duty-obsessed “minder” to ensure that she completes—and survives—one last mission, Mari is incensed . . . for her guardian, Major Bennett Prestwood, is simply too dedicated, too unbending, and too disarmingly attractive.

But in the face of dark secrets and deadly treacheries, as the true peril to Mari is slowly revealed, loyal soldier Bennett realizes that to save and win this extraordinary woman, he will have to do the unthinkable and break the rules—rules that passion and desire have suddenly, irrevocably changed.

  1. Oooo, I like Kate Noble and that book’s on my To Buy list. *yoink!*

  2. Saby says:

Gah! That Kate Noble book is apparently not on sale in Canada. Curses!

  3. Beccah W. says:

This is good – I’ve never read anything by these ladies (of course there is always the chance that they are 89 year old men writing romance).

  4. SB Sarah says:

    DAMMIT. I’m sorry, Saby.

  5. kkw says:

That Sally MacKensie series is pretty mediocre.  I kept getting sucked back in by fun sounding descriptions, by cover art, by their popularity at the library, by my relentlessly bad memory, but I am now clear: STA.
I just finished a decidedly unsatisfying Kate Noble book yesterday, but she’s usually decent.
That last one sounds so tempting…because I am incapable of learning from other people’s mistakes.  Or my own.

  6. jliedl says:

Yes, I was disappointed when the Kate Noble book came up at a much higher price in Canada but then I checked my library catalogue. We have it and I’ve ordered the copy delivered to my local branch. Thanks for the recommendation!

  7. Cerulean says:

Okay, I have to ask – what is *up* with that cat on the Mackenzie cover?

  8. tikaanidog says:

looks like ‘help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” to me 🙂

  9. Beccah W. says:

I have a friend with a cat named Ned. So my first thought about the cover was on the bestiality side…

  10. Karin says:

It looks like she’s stepping on its tail, no wonder it wants to claw her.
