Books On Sale

Jill Mansell and Kajsa Ingemarsson Books on Sale Today Only - with Reader Recs

A few books on sale today – including one that's a Kindle Daily Deal. I don't usually link to book sales that are at one retailer only – at least, not intentionally, though I occasionally screw that up – but this is a book that's been a daily deal at other times at other retailers, and on its own, it's hella expensive.

Yesterday's News - Kajsa Ingemarsson Last year I reviewed Yesterday's News, a translation of a Swedish novel by Kajsa Ingemarsson. I gave it a B-, but this is a book that has hung around in my brain being all interesting and Swedish for months now – and I read it in May of last year. In my review I wrote:

…this isn't the sort of novel I usually gravitate towards AT ALL. There wasn't a romance, really. It barely flickered on the “how would I list this book, genre-wise” light up board (what, you don't have one of those?) There was a multi-layered breakup with a real douchetastic asshat. There were friends going to bars, and little problems that stayed little problems, and little problems that became big problems. But there wasn't the glossy slick fantasy set in a big city that “chick lit” often suggests…. It's about a young woman in a city, but she's a waitress, she struggles with money, she has a very small apartment and a minimal budget for going out – and she's from a very small town where things are changing, much to her horror.

I was totally absorbed into the story. I stayed up late reading it, I got up early and started reading before I finished making breakfast (oops). I sat in an uncomfortable chair reading because I didn't want to stop reading long enough to move.

This book is not gripping OMGWHATNEXT style telling. It's an easy read, but it's sticky in that it shows you so much of the daily life in Stockholm with Agnes that I wanted to learn more. Every time I came to the end of a chapter, I started the next one. I told Hubby at one point when he was talking to me without my hearing him that I was very happily in Sweden at that moment.

Today only at Amazon for the Kindle, Yesterday's News is $1.99. Because the book can be normally anywhere from $6-$14 digitally, I wanted to make sure I told y'all about it. It's not a romance, but it was a really enjoyable, different, and intriguing book for me last year, and at $2, if you're a Kindle person, it's a great buy.

Also today only, nine Jill Mansell titles are .99c digitally at all retailers. Ordinarily, nine books in one entry all on sale would probably make your eyes glaze over, so I won't list them all. If you'd like to see the full selection, have a look at Amazon,  BN, or Kobo for the list of all nine.

But when I tweeted about it, I got very helpful responses, some from readers like Jessica and Amanda, and one from Jill Mansell herself.

Jill says her favorites (sorry, favourites) are:

To the Moon and Back The hardest part of love is moving on…

It's been a year since Ellie Kendall's husband, Jamie, was killed in an accident, but she's still haunted by his memory. In fact, she finds herself talking to him regularly. At the urging of Jamie's successful actor father Tony, Ellie moves to London's glamorous Primrose Hill, where nobody knows her past…

But even in her new home-and with her hardworking new boss, Zack McLaren; and Jamie's best friend Todd to distract her-Ellie can't seem to leave Jamie behind.

Will Ellie stay stuck in the past? Or will she realize the man of her dreams is flesh and blood-and right in front of her eyes…

Amanda also tweeted that this was her favorite of Mansell's books.

Staying at Daisy's Life is easy, it's men she'll never figure out…

When hotel manager Daisy MacLean meets cocky sports hero Dev Tyzack, it's a no brainer-stay away. He is arrogant and sarcastic-but also incredibly sexy. Daisy tries her best to steer clear of him, yet soon comes to realize he is the one guest she can't bear to see leave.

Then she learns a devastating truth: most people are not who they seem to be, for better or worse…

This book was Jessica's first Jill Mansell book, and when she tweeted that to me and Jill, Jill responded with a link to the hotel where this book is set

Millie's Fling

He's the best thing that ever happened to her. He's also the worst. He's Millie's Fling.

Bestselling novelist Orla Hart owes her life to her friend Millie Brady, whose rotten boyfriend has just left her. So Orla invites Millie to Cornwall, where Millie looks forward to a summer without any dating whatsoever.

But Orla envisions Millie as the heroine of her next novel and decides to find Millie the man of her dreams. Except the two women have drastically different ideas about what kind of guy that should be.

With Orla and Millie working at cross-purposes, and a dashing but bewildered hero stuck in the middle, the summer will turn out to be unforgettable for all concerned…

I am a big fan of Jill Mansell. I have all her books in print.  Such pretty covers!  Thanks for the post I will get all nine for my Kindle.  To The Moon and Back is a wonderful book and it’s a good place to start if you’re new to Mansell.

  2. samantha says:

Ok.I bought three of the Jill Mansell titles to try.  I had a coupon code to use so I got an even better deal. I am a little worried now that I will love them so much and kick myself for not getting all nine!  Hurray!

  3. Cegehin80 says:

Oh, thank you so much! I’m so glad I saw this in my email today. I LOVE all of Jill Mansell’s books that I’ve read so far (about half). And, the one by Ingemarrson sounds great too.

  4. Mikaela Lind says:

A bit out of topic: I love Stockholm Text, the publisher of Yesterday’s News. Not only do they translate swedish novels into English, but they have started to translate romance to swedish ( First out is Sylvia Day’s Seven Years to Sin) 😀 I am crossing the fingers for a really good reading year.

  5. Fran S. says:

Perfect Timing is my favorite Mansell book!  Miranda’s Big Mistake and Millie’s Fling are also really good.

  6. Nita says:

Another sale for Friday: Cathy Maxwell’s “Married in Haste” will be the Free Nook Book for 1/4. Sometimes those last the weekend, but it’s best to hop on it on Fridays.

  7. Jill Mansell says:

This is so brilliant – all these years I’ve longed to be mentioned on your brilliant website and it’s happened at last. I don’t even care if you hate my books and give them toe-curlingly awful reviews…at least I made it here!

  8. pa1822 says:

Don’t know if I’m the only Bitch that uses a Nook cause I haven’t seen this comment from anyone else, but went to B&N to check out Jill’s books, and they are listed as $2.99 each.  Its happened several times before when I’ve checked out B&N after seeing a deal here, they don’t seem to have the same pricing as Amazon and other retailers.

  9. RubyAli says:

The covers of those Jill Mansell books are so pretty!

  10. SB Sarah says:

I *think* the price change may be because this deal was one day only, for 3 January (and I think it runs close to Eastern Time US). So it’s expired now. I’m sorry!

  11. SB Sarah says:

Thanks for recommending your favorites! That was very fun.
