Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Hot Spaniard Tycoon Romance Lost in the Storm

Mary has written in looking for a book she lost in Hurrican Sandy:

Ok, so I lost all of my books in the recent hurricane sandy on the East Coast and I was wondering if you experts could identify a particular romance novel I used to have, but unfortunately cannot remember anything about it other than the story. I believe it was written in the 1990's by a female author from the UK.

The cover had a face of a woman sitting in the sun, with a large sunhat covering her eyes and a small smile on her lips.

The story was about this young british girl who is working in a hotel, cleaning the room of this rich Spanish businessman (I think his name was Luis) He is very arrogant but handsome and he makes a deal with her, hiring her to replace his ex fiance (who she looks like) He buys her a makeover and takes her to stay with him in Spain. At first they don't get along, but then start to fall in love.

Later something goes wrong…but it ends up that she moves back to Spain on her own and he becomes her boss… I know it sounds like a lot of books out there, but I figured I'd ask you, because you really seem to know your stuff. THANKS!

Oh, Sandy, you suck so hard. Does anyone recall this book?

I don’t know the book but I’d be willing to send her a book to start rebuilding her library.

  2. LisaJo885 says:

I don’t know the book either, but I second MissB2U’s offer and will send her several books. In fact, how about the whole Malory series by Lindsey?

  3. Scarlett Speaks says:

    Ditto on the book rebuild!

  4. CarrieS says:

Hey SB Sarah and/or Mary, is there an address where we can send books or gift cards?  Mary, got any fav authors or subgenres we should know about?

  5. YoukoAlicia says:

I have books I can send too! I bought four cases from a used bookstore that was closing and now I have several duplicates that would love a new home.

  6. Karin says:

It sure sounds like Harlequin Presents, maybe a Lynne Graham? I’ve got a very similar book except the tycoon is Italian, and the heroine is cleaning his house, instead of a hotel room. He has to get married immediately for some crazy reason, but he dumps his fiancee because she’s a b***h, swearing to replace her with the first woman he sees, which happens to be the cleaning lady. It’s supposed to be a temporary fake marriage, and she’ll get a big cash payoff at the end.  He takes her to meet his family in Italy and there’s also a fashion/beauty makeover. It’s called “The Italian’s Token Wife” by Julia James, published 2005, and I’d be happy to send it to Mary.

  7. Kimberlinah says:

I just purged a whole bunch of my romance novels out of my collection. They’re just sitting here in boxes waiting for me to haul them to the thrift store. I’d be happy to donate them to library rebuilding instead!

  8. Tigerkat81 says:

I offer a seventh on the library rebuilding. I don’t want to even think about what it would be like to lose all my books.

  9. wingednike says:

Probably unlikely based on your description of the cover, but did it take place around the holiday season?  It sounds like a Sarah Morgan book http://www.amazon.com/Twelve-N…

  10. Michelle C. says:

I have a box of books looking for a new home, too. Mary!

  11. Vicki says:

Good thought. Are there libraries/persons who lost books to Sandy and need replacements? Is there a central address somewhere? Or someone to let us know who needs them? I, too, could send a “few.”

  12. Lenorej says:

omg. I’m moving house and have acres of books, with many dupes—too much time in thrift stores with my faulty memory—and would be thrilled to help rebuild someone’s collection.  Maybe we should do a complete bitchery project?

  13. Anony Miss says:

    Project! Project! Project!!

  14. kathy cole says:

Unfortunately, no clue on the book, but I’m totally happy to contribute to library rebuilding, whether for Mary or others – what a great idea!

  15. Maggie says:

i’m sorry I can’t help on this specific title, but I’ve got a box of paranormals that would love a new home 🙂

  16. BitsyRavenclaw says:

We could start a movement: ‘Smart Bitches Sending Trashy Books.’ I don’t have anything off my shelves to send, but I’d buy a new book/gift card to help out.

  17. Artesia says:

I’d be willing to send some books too. I can’t imagine not having my collection. Just tell us what genre she prefers and if I have some, I’ll send them!! 🙂

  18. Sorry, no idea on the book although it sounds like something I’d like to read as well:)  I also volunteer to send some trashy (and not so trashy) books to any sort of Sandy victims drive!

  19. SB Sarah says:

I love how awesome y’all are. I’ve emailed Mary to ask if she’d be willing to share her address. As for libraries on the coast, I think that the NJ chapter of the ALA is going to be coordinating something to help the shore libraries. A good many beach town libraries suffered total losses of their collections. If I hear anything specific, I’ll be sure to pass it on here.

Thanks for being truly excellent people.

  20. Mary says:

Wow! The response to my letter is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! You are all so kind and so generous! I Only had a small collection of books at the time of the hurricane, I tied to save the ones that meant the most to me or the ones I was reading at the time. I remembered this particular romance novel I had lost because I really liked it! I read it a few times and now I could kick myself for not registering the title in my head lol As for the other books, I did have the whole Stephenie Meyer Twilight book series and some of Anne Rice’s Vampire chronicles. (I guess you could say I am a vampire book fan of late) If anyone here knows someone from England who has a used collection of the Being Human 3 book series that they are getting rid of, let me know. Those are hard to retrieve. I also had random books like Cold Mountain, Stephen King’s The Stand and The Talented Mr. Ripley… It’s very hard to remember.

Also it is such a great idea to donate some of your books to the people who lost them in the hurricane. New Jersey & New York had alot of losses.

    My address is:

    Mary Janet
    26 Skytop Gardens, Apt# 16
    Parlin, NJ 08859

Anything is appreciated! If I cannot use the books, I am sure I know of someone who lost their books as well. Over half of my relatives lost everything in this storm. I know they would appreciate all of your wonderful kindness too! Thank you!

    Sincerely,
    Mary

It’s not a perfect match, but it sounds a lot like Bought by Her Latin Lover by Julia James http://www.amazon.com/Bought-L…
I have a copy and would be happy to send it to Mary for her library rebuild.
