Books on Sale: Stephanie Laurens Historicals

Shopping cart filled with books

First: I was chatting on Facebook about setting up a mailing list to have the deals posted here sent to your inbox once a week. There was a lot of interest, so I am working on creating a list just for the books on sale listings. I will only send the digest once a week, unless there's a spiffy deal that's valid for one day only. I will not ever sell or share your info, no matter who asks. If you'd like to subscribe, here's a handy form:

And now, books on sale!

There are a few of Stephanie Lauren's Cynster series on sale digitally, though alas, not the first one, Devil's Bride, which is my favorite. But if you've already read about Devil and Honoria (perhaps even sixty-twelve times, like me), and are eager for more Laurens, have a look.

A Rogue's Proposal

A Rogue's Proposal is .99c US. Alas, the cover art depicts the shirt-open-but-still-tucked-in style hero, but the illustration is very small.

Demon Cynster has seen love bring his brethren to their knees, and he's vowed that he will not share their fate . . . until he spies Felicity Parteger sneaking about his racing stable. Demon remembers Felicity as a mere chit of a girl, but now she stands before him, all lush curves and sparkling eyes…

Felicity knows Demon was one of the town's most eligible bachelors and a rogue of the worst sort, but he was the only one capable of getting her friend out of trouble. She knows Demon will never yield her the love she desperately seeks, but could a marriage of passion alone be enough?

A Fine Passion with Bonus Materials

This is the story of Devil Cynster's parents, Helena and Sebastian. The book is .99c US, and the official title is “The Promise in a Kiss with Bonus Materials.” I'm absolutely twisted with ideas as to what the bonus materials are, and whether they're located in the promise, or in the kiss. Probably better in the promise – a kiss with bonus materials sounds kind of messy.

What would you do if you were kissed by the most handsome stranger you'd ever seen? And what if that man was a Cynster?

Every girl—even convent-educated ones—dreams of forbidden kisses. So when a man literally falls at Helena's feet as she's walking through the courtyard one moonlit Christmas Eve, the pretty, young comtesse d'Lisle knows he's up to no good. He's clearly a bit dangerous… and obviously caught in the middle of a clandestine rendezvous. Why else would he have risked his neck and jumped out of a window into the snow? It's wrong, it's outlandish . . . and it's the most utterly romantic gesture she's ever seen. So when the good sisters rush up, demanding to know if she has seen a man on the grounds, Helena ignores the years of strict upbringing that insist she reveal his presence. To lie would be a sin, but 'no one can be good all the time. As a reward for her silence, the stranger takes her in his arms and enticingly, unforgettably kisses her—and then departs, leaving a lingering if unspoken promise of all that might be, should fate decree that they meet again.

Although Helena doesn't know it, her wild Englishman is Sebastian Cynster, Duke of St. Ives, a nobleman who will prove to be her destiny.

Seven years later, Helena has been transformed from a pretty schoolgirl to an aristocratic beauty. Her sparkling wit has made her sought after by London's hostesses; her considerable dowry has made winning her hand the aim of many a gentleman . . . but she is deafeningly aware of how boring so many of these gentlemen are. Her manipulative guardian has unexpectedly allowed her to find a husband of her own choosing, and she has no intention of marrying any man who tries to tame her. There must be someone perfect for her . . . someone who can live up to the promise of that long-ago kiss. Then, at a ball, fate strikes.

Once again, it is the Christmas season, and across the crowded room Helena stands transfixed . . . for there is the man whose kiss she has never forgotten, the man of her memory whom no other has ever been able to supplant. Her wild, mysterious Englishman, Sebastian Cynster, Duke of St. Ives. One look, and he's determined to reclaim her . . . .

A Fine Passion with Bonus MaterialsHow soon until Harper Collins/Avon releases a book that's called “His Bonus Materials” or “The Bonus Materials of the Duke?” Because that would be awesome. This book, A Fine Passion with Bonus Materials is .99c US, and is the fourth novel in Laurens' Bastion Club series.

In A Fine Passion, the men of the Bastion Club are powerful, loyal, and not averse to overcoming danger if they must. Now, after years of loyal service to the Crown, they each—one by one—must face that greatest danger of all . . . love.

The last of his line, Jack, Baron Warnefleet, has fled London after nearly being compromised into marrying a dreadful female. Turning his back on the entire notion of marriage, he rides home to the estate he has not seen for years, determined to set in motion an alternative course of action. But then in the lane before his gate, Jack rescues a startlingly beautiful lady from a menacing, unmanageable horse. However, while he begins by taking command, the lady continues by taking it back.

Lady Clarice Altwood is no meek and mild miss. She is the very antithesis of the woolly-headed young ladies Jack has rejected as not for him. Clarice is delectably attractive, beyond eligible, undeniably capable, and completely unforgettable. Why on earth is she rusticating in the country? That enigma is compounded by mystery, and it's quickly clear that Clarice is in danger. Jack must use every ounce of his cunning and wit to protect this highly independent and richly passionate woman . . . who has so quickly stolen his heart.

Devil’s Bride was available for 99 cents as a pre-order on Aamazon back in the fall. I ordered it, but the day came and went—no Devil’s Bride. So, I chatted with AMZ customer service and apparently, they sent it back to the publisher because it had too many errors. (I wonder how they quantify “too many”. What’s the max allowable?)

  2. Beccah W. says:

Oh I used to love me some Stephanie Laurens back in the day. So glad they’re on sale! 🙂

  3. Stellab1011 says:

I just woke up my sleeping 3 month old because I couldn’t contain a laugh at “The Bonus Materials of the Duke”. Serves me right for reading SBTB while sitting so close by him!

  4. SB Sarah says:

All duke’s come with bonus materials IN THEIR PANTS, if romance is to believed.

  5. rayvyn2k says:

I recently bought and read the first eight Cynster books (I love me some series) but after the first couple, the rest began to seem the same. And I wasn’t enamored of the “You are MINE” and the ‘primitive (sexual) demons’ mindset of the heroes, which seems to be very common in the romances I’ve been reading. Since I got my Nook in late August, I’ve bought and read something like 70 books, so perhaps it’s me?

  6. SB Sarah says:

I think if you mainline the Cynsters, you’ll exhaust yourself with the similarities between the hero types. Better to spread them out (heh) and space other books between them so the Cynsteration doesn’t wear you out.

  7. rayvyn2k says:

I found that out the hard way, heh. It’s the same with Christina Dodd’s Governess School books, too. I can’t tell you how tired I am of the heroine telling the hero “no” only to be so overcome by his kisses she gives in against her will. I think I need to take a break from Regencys for a while, hehe.

  8. Jenny says:

Joy of joys, at least The Promise in a Kiss is available in the UK, they’ve been turning up about monthly over here for 49p.  The bonus materials here are the opening chapters of about 8 other Cynster novels.

  9. Lil says:

A FINE PASSION doesn’t seem to be available on Amazon

  10. SB Sarah says:

    It’s there: http://amzn.to/TwMSCI

I think I have to adjust the link – hang on. Sorry!

  11. SB Sarah says:

That’s excellent! I wish I had better luck seeing the prices at Amazon.co.uk or elsewhere, but it tells me to go shop in my own country and get off their lawn. I’m working on more stuff for those outside the US, though. I’m sorry there’s not more right now!

  12. chantalhab says:

A Rogue’s Proposal is my least favourite of her books. Devil’s Bride is the best! It’s actually the only one of the series that I couldn’t bring myself to finish. I don’t know why.

  13. persnickety says:

That explains it! I was certain I had bought Devil’s bride in the reissue, but it hasn’t shown up.  Demon’s story was actually one of the first Cynster books I read, and it did keep me away from them for a while.

I was not a huge fan of Promise in Kiss, but my husband was commenting today about how different it was from the other books- consequence of not being set in the Regency era?

  14. Smwurfy says:

I agree with you. I started reading the Cynster series and read the first 6 (i think) and started the next but DNF. Like you, i found it had become repetetive. I got bored of how similar all of the heroes were. But i did go back to the series and just read her last three about the Cynster sisters which I liked. (and skipped the however many in between!) SB Sarah’s right, a break is needed when reading about the Cynsters! =)

  15. SB Sarah says:

Yes. Never mainline Cynsters. You’ll OD and ruin the purply magic.
