Books On Sale

Merry Christmas Shopping!

Shopping Cart full of booksHey there! Merry Christmas, if you're celebrating, and happy day off, if you're not! I hope you're enjoying your day, with warm food and awesome people…and BOOKS. Did you get a reader or books as a gift? Gift cards? What's your favorite gift this year?

I've got some sales to tell you about, too, should you feel like spending about $5 or less on books.

First, everyone OUTSIDE the US, Kobo has their deals on for you. These expire 11:59pm on 31 December 2012.

And now, sales! Harper Collins has a page of books that have been on sale and will be until 7 January. I've featured many of these titles already, as they're 70%+ off, but there's plenty to choose from. And if you have a young person in your house who is thinking of reading digitally, there are some really special deals on right now.

First, some children's and middle grade books:

My Weird School 4-Book Collection - by Dan Gutman My Weird School 4-Book Collection with Bonus Material by Dan Gutman is $2.99 digitally for four books.

Don’t miss out on an exciting new My Weird School ebook collection, complete with the first four books in Dan Gutman’s seriously hilarious and seriously zany series. The collection includes My Weird School #1: Miss Daisy Is Crazy!, My Weird School #2: Mr. Klutz Is Nuts!, My Weird School #3: Mrs. Roopy Is Loopy!, My Weird School #4: Ms. Hannah Is Bananas!, and a bunch of seriously strange activities. The activities include a checklist, a maze, and a word scramble.

My son Freebird, who is 7, LOVES these books. I asked him why he thought kids should try this series, and he said, “They're funny, weird, and about a little boy who has weird teachers but they're good teachers. Some of them.”

One comment he made about one early book: “I like AJ, but he hates school, and I love school, so I'm more like Andrea, who loves school, too.” I've purchased more of these books than any other during last year's school Read-a-Thon. Freebird says he thinks that most kids who are his age and ready for chapter books with pictures mixed in will like them.

A Series of Unfortunate Events - #1 - Lemony Snicket A Series of Unfortunate Events #1: The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket is $1.99 digitally.

Dear Reader,

I'm sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune. In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast. It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

And…there goes my spending money 🙂

  2. Amy Raby (Alpha Lyra) says:

My boys love those Warriors books (we already own the whole set in print). Does anyone buy ebooks for their kids, though? I love them for myself, but I don’t like sharing my Kindle.

  3. sweetsiouxsie says:

I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas from Santa! Now I have to figure out how to use it so that I can take advantage of all the great e-reader deals!!!

  4. Vicki says:

Amy, you give them your old one and get yourself a new one. You also review your account daily to see what they are downloading. My grandson downloaded a coloring book earlier this year – he thought it said exotic but, alas, it was another, similar word. Also, make sure they know to check with you before spending money. I let my grandson use my amazon acct to download books for a while and he was very good.

  5. GHN says:

I got no books for Christmas, so I might well make up for it by going shopping for e-books. But my brother gave me a kanzashi (a Japanese hair-thingy) for my butt-length hair, which is undoubtedly my favorite present this year!

  6. SB Sarah says:

My hair is only down to my shoulder blades, but what is this magical thing you speak of? I must google!
