Hanukkah Extravaganzah, Part the First!

A computer generated image of a menorah with a book in front of it. On the first night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches gave to me: book store shopping money!

Tonight marks the first night of Hanukkah, and we have gifts for you! I'll be hosting something different each day, so come on back each day.

The first night of Hanukkah gift: a $100 gift card to the bookstore of your choice.

Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Must be 18 years of age and wearing warm socks to win. Open to international residents. Try the latkes with applesauce and sour cream.

To enter, leave a comment telling us which book you'd buy first. I will choose the winner at random. You have 24 hours to enter.

Happy Hanukkah – let's get bonkers in here! Fried food and sugar should make us plenty bouncy.

  1. Ashley DeGroot says:

I would start by getting “The Duke and I” by Julia Quinn! I love the series and want to own it for myself. 🙂

  2. Too Fond says:

Happy Hanukkah, SB Sarah! Awesome giveaway! I would probably pick the second book in Lindsay Buroker’s Emperor’s Assassin series, since I liked the first one so much after reading a review here.

  3. quinfirefrorefiddle says:

I’d buy Rachel Held Evans’ Year Of Biblical Womanhood, which I’ve been looking forward to for awhile now.

  4. Sean says:

I’m thinking about getting the Neil Young autobiography.

  5. hanne says:

I’d get the newest in the Dresden Files series – Cold Days! I’ve been waiting for the paperback version because I’ve got the rest of them in paperback (and my touch of OCD causes me to want all of them to be in the same style)… But the waiting game is seriously testing my self control.

  6. Kristi Davis says:

    Iced by Karen Marie Moning!

  7. MD_uk says:

“The gentleman undone” is currently on top of my “to-buy” list. Thanks for a chance to win 😉

  8. I would get The Tyrannicide Brief: The Man Who Sent Charles I to the Scaffold.

I have LAYERS.  Like an ogre.

  9. I wear stetsons now says:

OOoohh.  I would buy the new Kresley Cole book, Shadow’s Claim first.

  10. ms bookjunkie says:

First Kylie Chan’s HEAVEN TO WUDANG, then some Amanda Quick backlist I haven’t wanted to pay over $10 for…I want SCANDAL so bad! And I definitely want the overpriced Jayne Castle Guinevere Jones books.

  11. Armi Reads says:

Lorelei James: Gone Country. Because I’m counting the minutes ‘til its release.

  12. Scarlett Speaks says:

“The Prince of Cups” by Gayle Feyrer. It’s out of print, but it’s been on my to-be-read for ages and amazon has it and, and, and, holy crap this is the woman who brought us the best version of Maid Marion in the history of Maid Marions. (Seriously, read “The Thief’s Mistress” and tell me I’m wrong with a straight face. I’ll wait. The only thing that could have made her better was if she was a Disney fox.) So, uhm, yeah.

  13. ThingsAlySays says:

Ohhh! The first book I’d buy would be “The Sea of Tranquility” by Katja Millay. I heard great things about it. And then… I’d have to select a few titles out of my infinite ‘to be read’ list. The thought of getting about 20 books in the mail makes me swoon!

  14. Rebecca W. says:

I would buy one of Jill Shavis’s new Lucky Harbor books…writing my thesis has gotten in the way of my reading and I’m SO looking forward to reading for pleasure in a couple of weeks!

  15. JaneC says:

Lots of books.  But the one that I just put on my list was The Duchess War by Courtney Milan.

  16. Hollyg238 says:

Pre-order Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs; Ilona Andrews ‘Steels Edge’ and Janet Evanovich ‘Notorious Nineteen’ – the Plum novels always – make me laugh out loud.

  17. April says:

Kiss and Tell by Lorelei James as soon as it becomes available. Love her Rough Riders series.

  18. Becca says:

I’d buy the latest Darynda Jones book….unless Melissa Marr comes out with a sequel to Graveminder.

  19. Sarah.W says:

Kresely Cole’s new book, it is taking forever to come from the library!

  20. Dacia Rivers says:

Happy Hanukkah! I’d totally buy the Wolf Hall series. Craving some historical fiction right now.

  21. Shana McDanold says:

I’d buy the rest of the Jaye Wells “Sabina Kane” (hello ass kicking vampire mage heroine) series. I read the first one on my Nook (purchased on sale), and now I’m hooked!

  22. Trish says:

I would buy Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Storm and probably get the entire (paper back) book series. I love those books!

  23. Debbie Delorme says:

Lowcountry Boil by Susan Boyer or Dark Light of Day by Jill Archer… probably both <g></g>

  24. Debbie Delorme says:

Lowcountry Boil by Susan Boyer or Dark Light of Day by Jill Archer… probably both <g></g>

  25. Milly says:

Witch of Blackbird Pond, Ivanhoe, Tale of Two Cities, Hamlet.  Those books really meant something to me and still do.  I want nice classic and hardbound versions of those!

  26. Lorene Tolleson says:

Blood Vow by Karin Tabke is high on my wish list.

  27. Robin says:

I would fill out my collection with any Kristen Higgins books I haven’t read. Love her!

  28. Lostshadows says:

Sorcery and Cecelia. Just finished it, and now I want my own copy.

  29. Dani L. says:

I’d probably get hardback versions of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books. My paperback versions are getting pretty worn, but I have a hard time splurging on books I already own.

  30. Michelle says:

I’d buy Ransom by Julie Garwood. I love that book. Actually, I don’t understand why I don’t already know it.

  31. Purplepammy says:

The new Linda Howard, in hopes she has her writing mojo back.  But it won’t hurt my book budget if she doesn’t.

  32. Aralira says:

    I would probably re-buy Howl’s Moving Castle.

  33. TMS says:

I’d pre-order SEA GLASS WINTER by JoAnn Ross

  34. Robin F. says:

    The latest Thea Harrison!

  35. katherinelynn_04 says:

MY first purchase would be Cold Days by Jim Butcher. It’s the newest Harry Dresden and I can’t wait to read it after the end of the last book!

  36. LauraN says:

I’d do what I do whenever I get a gift card for a real, physical, bookstore—go in and look around!  I’m pretty much restricted to checking books out from the library, so I rarely browse in bookstores because I know I won’t buy.  I’d probably look for something written by an author who is new to me and take a chance since gift card money isn’t real and therefore doesn’t have to be used responsibly.

  37. Beth says:

Days of Blood and Starlight. I am so desperate to find out what happens next.

  38. Mary H. says:

I’d buy The Duchess War by Courtney Milan. Love her books!

  39. Cheryl Mcinnis says:

I’d get the entire Immortals After Dark series on Kindle 🙂

  40. Aliza_M says:

Oooh…so many books to choose from!  I’ve been on a non-fiction kick lately so I’d probably buy Bee Wilson’s book “Consider the Fork: a History of How We Cook and Eat” or “A History of the World in 100 Objects” by Neil MacGregor.  Fictionwise, I’ve just discovered Courtney Milan and Julie Ann Long so have their backlist to catch up on.
