Fun with Ryan Gosling and Books on Sale

I received an email from Billie Bloebaum, bookseller extraordinaire, which read:

Subject: In case no one has noticed…

…both the mash-up novel and lolcats have now officially jumped the shark. The proof, if such a thing is needed:

Book Cover

It's only lacking Ryan Gosling as Darcy: “Hey girl, you must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

WELL. We can't let that slide, can we?!

Behold.

Hey Girl. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.

Thanks, Billie! That will continue to make my New Year's bright.

For sixty years Jewish refugees and their descendants have prospered in the Federal District of Sitka, a “temporary” safe haven created in the wake of the Holocaust and the shocking 1948 collapse of the fledgling state of Israel. The Jews of the Sitka District have created their own little world in the Alaskan panhandle, a vibrant and complex frontier city that moves to the music of Yiddish.

But now the District is set to revert to Alaskan control, and their dream is coming to an end. Homicide detective Meyer Landsman of the District Police has enough problems without worrying about the upcoming Reversion. His life is a shambles, his marriage a wreck, his career a disaster. And in the cheap hotel where Landsman has washed up, someone has just committed a murder—right under his nose. When he begins to investigate the killing of his neighbor, a former chess prodigy, word comes down from on high that the case is to be dropped immediately, and Landsman finds himself contending with all the powerful forces of faith, obsession, evil, and salvation that are his heritage.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is $2.99 digitally. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is $2.99 digitally.

Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor. This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion has become a modern classic. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the story of what it’s like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie’s letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating.

We may not know where he lives or to whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and music—when all one requires to feel infinite is that perfect song on that perfect drive.

And, all three books in Julie Anne Walker's Black Knights Inc series are .99c today only, at just about every retailer — unlike yesterday, where the prices were only at Amazon. I'm really sorry about that, y'all.

Hell on Wheels - Julie Ann Walker is .99c

Black Knights Inc.—Behind the facade of their tricked–out motorcycle shop is an elite special ops team assigned the jobs too hot for anyone else to handle. Hold On Tight… Ex–Marine Nate “Ghost” Weller is an expert at keeping his cool—and his distance—which makes him one hell of a sniper. It's also how he keeps his feelings for Ali Morgan in check.

Sweet, sexy Ali has always revved his engine, but she's his best friend's baby sister…and totally off limits. Rough Road Ahead Ali's never seen anything sexier than Nate Weller straddling his custom Harley—or the flash of danger in his eyes when she tells him she's in trouble. First something happened to her brother, and now she's become the target of a nasty international organization. With Nate, her life is in the most capable hands possible—but her heart is another story altogether.

In Rides Trouble - Julie Ann Walker is 99cBecky “Rebel” Reichert never actually goes looking for trouble. It just has a tendency to find her. Like the day Frank Knight showed up at her door, wanting to use her motorcycle shop as a cover for his elite special ops team. But Becky prides herself on being able to hang with the big boys-she can weld, drive, and shoot just as well as any of them.

Munitions, missiles, and mayhem are Frank's way of life. The last thing the ex-SEAL wants is for one brash blonde to come within fifty feet of anything that goes boom. Yet it's just his rotten luck when she ends up in a hostage situation at sea. Come hell or high water, he will get her back-whether she says she needs him or not.

Rev It Up - Julie Ann Walker Jake “the Snake” Sommers earned his SEAL code name by striking quickly and quietly-and with lethal force. That's also how he broke Michelle Carter's heart. It was the only way to keep her safe-from himself. Four long years later, Jake is determined to get a second chance. But to steal back into Michelle's loving arms, Jake is going to have to prove he can take things slow. Real slow…

Michelle Carter has never forgiven Jake for being so cliché as to “love her and leave her.” But when her brother, head of the Black Knights elite ops agency, ticks off the wrong mobster, she must do the unimaginable: place her life in Jake's hands. No matter what they call him, this man is far from cold-blooded. And once he's wrapped around her heat, he'll never let her go…

Can anyone recommend the Black Knights series? They sound interesting, but I’m leery of getting all of the books only to find I hate them (even for .99 each!). I’m such a wimp.

  2. Books4mb says:

smlundberg posted exactly what I was thinking. Anybody read these?

  3. LisaJo885 says:

I have no idea if the Black Knight books are good, but they look like mindless entertainment at a minimum, so I just gifted them to my friend’s Kindle account, as she’s down with a back injury for a while. I also bought them for myself (so she doesn’t have to suffer alone if they are bad), and bought the other two sale books. “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is $3.99 at BN.

  4. SB Sarah says:

I haven’t, but as I said to smlundberg on Twitter, I’m going to buy them and try them out. At $3 for 3, it’s not horrible, and some retailers like Amazon have very friendly return policies for ebooks should you decide you absolutely dislike them.

  5. cleo says:

I haven’t read any of them but Jane at DA gave In Rides Trouble a B- (http://dearauthor.com/book-rev….

  6. My local book club read The Perks of Being a Wallflower for our last entry. Every one of us hated it with a fiery passion. Maybe I’m too old to appreciate it, but I don’t honestly think I would have liked it even when I was in its target demographic. The narrator is such an intensely Marty Stu-ish character.

  7. Heather S says:

Amazon has “Perks of Being A Wallflower” for $3.99

  8. Tam B. says:

I’ve read the Black Knights series and it’s not bad.  Alpha ex-special forces guys saving their girl that they’re not quite ready to admit feelings for.  Think Expendables with a romance plot (as unlikely as that seems).  In fact the author brings up the similarity in the first book.  For 99c I think it’s a worthwhile spend.  They’re not the best books I’ve read or my favourite, but I did enjoy them.

  9. Tam B. says:

Can we have Ryan Gosling do the “lake scene” from Lost in Austen???
