Smart Bitch Sarah's Sizzling Book ClubAnnouncing the October book club pick: What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long

What I Did for a Duke - Julie Ann Long - Link to All RomanceHere's the summary:

For years, he's been an object of fear, fascination . . . and fantasy. But of all the wicked rumors that shadow the formidable Alexander Moncrieffe, Duke of Falconbridge, the ton knows one thing for certain: only fools dare cross him. And when Ian Eversea does just that, Moncrieffe knows the perfect revenge: he'll seduce Ian's innocent sister, Genevieve—the only Eversea as yet untouched by scandal. First he'll capture her heart . . . and then he'll break it.

But everything about Genevieve is unexpected: the passion simmering beneath her cool control, the sharp wit tempered by gentleness . . . And though Genevieve has heard the whispers about the duke's dark past, and knows she trifles with him at her peril, one incendiary kiss tempts her deeper into a world of extraordinary sensuality. Until Genevieve is faced with a fateful choice . . . is there anything she won't do for a duke?

There were moments when I read this book that I laughed aloud so hard my kids came running because the tv wasn't supposed to be on and clearly I had to be watching tv to be laughing that hard. I found this book to be hilarious and fun and smart and so entertaining – and I cannot wait to discuss it!

  1. Wintersong says:

I would definitely wear a nightgown in a windstorm. Maybe even be naked in a rainstorm… But then, I’d do that anyway.

  2. Lois Lane says:

I would write, produce and perform my own rap video for a duke. Yo.
    Paper please !

  3. Ruthie says:

LOVED this one. The dialogue is OH MY GOD. Totally floored me.

  4. Amy P. says:

I would shave EVERYTHING (and suffer the horrible itching) for a book by Julie Anne Long!

ooooohhh . . . but I would be super smooth for a day and hubby would be happy!!

    An (old-fashioned) paper copy please!

  5. Sherri says:

What would I do for a copy?  I have no idea.  Read out loud to the chickens?  Put the book in our family pictures?  Read it?  Beats me!  If I win I’d love a digital copy that will work on my Nook.  Cause, yea, I don’t even know what will work!

  6. Turophile says:

I would allow the Duke to do whatever I ask him to (why does he need to be in charge . .. ?) Paper copy could be cool, though epub fine if you run out.

  7. Daisy says:

I’d clean my apartment for What I Did for A Duke (I hate cleaning) (I’m also betting my boyfriend is crossing his fingers hoping I win this), I’d TRY not to eat chocolate for a week, I’d worship and reread and be all kinds of fangirl over it!
I was totally swept away by What I Did for a Duke when I read it, so YES PLEASE enter me! I’d prefer a paper copy.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. JW Ashley says:

For a free copy of a book, clearly, I would post a comment for a mere chance. What else I might do I’m not sure. Now, for a chance to read it and talk about it with like minded folks, I would do a tap dance.

  9. Lauren Clancy says:

I would listen to the Head On commercials for days for a Duke. paper please, but if you run out, I can do compatible with Kindle e-books. 🙂

  10. tien tien says:

i own this book in multiple formats b/c it is so freaking good and if i’m ever on a deserted island, i will have a variety of ways to read this book b/f the battery dies.  i just re-read it again and was STILL laughing at the “moons disappearing over the windowsill”.  harharhar.  i wish i were a virgin reader so i could be won over all over again!

  11. Tam B. says:

I would admit in what seems to be fairly knowledgable company that I have read this book OR a book by the author (gasp and hangs head in shame).  Please don’t kick me out!

So I obviously need you to take me in hand and educate me with a copy (e-version) of this book so that I can then go forth and sing it’s praises to the masses (or just post on facebook about it).

  12. Tam B. says:

I forgot the all important NOT in that opening sentence.

(Obviously I need my proof reading taken in hand too.)

  13. Vandy Jones says:

I would dance by myself in a windstorm in my nightgown.  Digital please!

  14. Jlm2509 says:

Ooohh, sounds good!  I’d be team Duke all the way.

  15. SarahS says:

This book? Hella good read. Smart people who are actually persuasively SMART.

  16. Dede says:

What would I do for a copy? I’d move it right to the top of my reading list! For my Kindle device!

  17. Nali says:

I would totally tackle cleaning out the scary places at the back of my fridge.
Oh, wait… I have to do that anyways, and I have nothing to read so it is getting harder to avoid it. 😛

I would also admit that I prefer paper books… because I don’t own an e-reader. Of any sort. Because I am the world’s most technologically literate Luddite, it seems.

  18. Colleen says:

I would allow him to ravish me.

  19. Good thing I checked my NOOK library first—I was going to enter, but realized I had bought this one recently (though I think at the time I paid 1.99). Finally, a book I already have in my pile for the book club. 😀

Though I haven’t read the previous books in this series—will I be lost?

    (Don’t enter me!)

    Enjoy!
    TBQ

  20. Ashley DeGroot says:

I would be myself for a duke 😛 I’d prefer paper or mobi version

  21. JA says:

i would eat a healthy breakfast! nook version

  22. Liz says:

What I wouldn’t do is give up my paper copies of the Pennyroyal Green series—but for a Kindle copy of this e-book—ummm, I’d get on the treadmill for the length of time it took me to read the book again. Not all at once, of course—I’m too fluffy.

    This book is amazing.

  23. LimeyTart says:

I would give up chocolate for a day for a copy of this book for my Kindle.

  24. PamG says:

What would I do for What I Did With a Duke? Why, I would post a comment, of course!  And furthermore, should what I did not do, I’ll cough up the .99!  Doo-wa-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-duke….

  25. PamG says:

    Oops!  Either format would diddy-do!

  26. Connie Fischer says:

I would tell the world what a wonderful author Julie Anne Long is.  Oh wait, I think I’ve already done that.  Does it still count?  🙂

Would LOVE a print copy.  Pretty please with sugar on top!

  27. Shiny says:

I would try to finish my master’s thesis even faster for this book (cause I can’t read it till I do – it’s due in two weeks and only half written) – paper please, but e-book is fine if not.

  28. megsan says:

What would I do for a copy? Ask really nicely in a sing-songy voice

What would I do with a copy? Read it 🙂

I would prefer an ebook copy as all print copy book buying is on hold until I own a big enough bookcase (for which I first need to own a home that can house a big enough bookcase)

  29. Sheila M says:

I would cook for a Duke- and there’s nothing I hate more than cooking.

    Paper please.

  30. Elizabeth says:

I would give up half and half in my coffee in favor of soy milk.  I”d like paper, please.

  31. Rosa E. says:

For a paper copy of a truly funny romance, I would actually cull my book collection. I might even give up my treasured copy of the lolarious “The Sword and the Sheath,” because even a wonderfully cringeworthy story and cheesy cover art are helpless before good plot.

  32. I loved this book! I try to get as many of Julie Anne’s books as I can 🙂

  33. Svet_chick says:

What I Would Do for What I Did for a Duke? I’m not sure. Cook for him maybe, or pamper him 😀 (Birthday in four days…) I would prefer a paperback copy, but if not, then digital copy works as well.

  34. GothamGal says:

I would love a digi copy. It’s my birthday tomorrow, and I’m leaving for vacation in two weeks—I’m trying to load up my reader with as much ‘smut’ as possible. I figure I will be amused—both by reading the book and by the idea that some redfaced customs agent might get nosey.

  35. Karen Wapinski says:

I would get waxed from neck to toe and promise not to eat chocolate for a week…maybe a day…i may need it to console the pain of the first part lol
    paper please!
    Good luck to everyone

  36. Ekaf1011 says:

I would actually go to the gym for 2 weeks (when I wasn’t reading!)
    Paper copy, please
    Thanks very much!

  37. Kim says:

This was one of the best books of 2011. I’d prefer digital.

  38. Julie says:

I would actually watch and learn the Gangnam Style video and dance for this book. I have managed to avoid it thus far.

I’d love a paper copy, but wouldn’t mind digital. Thanks!

  39. For an ebook copy? I’d befoul my precious, black coffee with any number of horrors, including sugar, brown sugar, and even that icky, powdered creamer. Walmart brand. A whole tablespoon. *shudders*

  40. I would read the book in the bathtub … with a glass of wine and a dark chocolate bar at the ready …

    (paper please)
