You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!
Joni is looking for a book she didn't get to finish – 20 years ago:
I have a HaBO request. Probably around 1989 or so, I was reading a book when
I was babysitting someone's kids. She had a romance book that took place in
the western 1800s and it was about a man and a wife who were trying to have
a baby. The man decides that the only way his wife will get pregnant is if
his brother sleeps with her.
The husband goes away on a trip and convinces the brother to seduce his wife. I know he suceeds in seducing her. Then I left the book at the lady's house and never got to the read the rest of it.
Anyone know this book? Please help me!
PS. Somewhere in the book, while the brother is seducing her, she is making
porkchops and burns them. I don't know why I remember that.
Who here recalls the pain of burnt pork chops? Anyone recognize this book?
Oh, I know I’ve read this! Just can’t remember what it was called 🙁
Will be checking in regularly to find the solution!
Could it be the Fulfillment by La Vyrle Spencer?
Yes! The Fulfillment by LaVyrle Spencer. I have that one on my keeper shelf. I was really surprised that she pulled off such a storyline.
That’s definitely the one I immediately thought of.
I immediately thought of The Fulfillment too. Really good!
OMG! I can’t believe I actually know this one. I never have the answer. It’s definitely The Fulfillment by Lavyrle Spencer and it was made into a TV movie with Cheryl Ladd called The Fulfillment of Mary Grey (or Gray)
Thank you ladies! I was the one who sent the email to Sarah and I cannot thank you enough! I’ve been trying to find that book for many, many years!
quick question… I think I read this one a long time ago as well… is the brother unable to have kids because he had measles as a child?
I believe so, yes.
Man I love that book, too, it’s definitely on my keeper shelf. I glommed LaVyrle Spencer’s books years ago (very easy at the used book stores), that one is one of my favorites.
Wait, who’s the hero? The husband or the brother?
I can’t believe I’ve read this! Ha. Glad someone remembered it. I remembering reading it and thinking… Really? This is happening?
The brother
