Friday Videos Like Bloody Big Beers

Claire sent me this link to a beer ad from Oz from a few years ago. No matter how many remakes I've heard of O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, I never get tired of it:

I hope your weekend is filled with beer and choir robes!

  1. It’s a great ad. Pity the beer itself is piss.

  2. Randi says:

That’s just brilliance. Like you, Sarah, I love me all incarnations of Carmina Burana.

  3. GHN says:

Great ad! It almost make me want to go out and buy some beer to drink – and I detest beer! :-p

  4. Hydecat says:

Someday when my husband’s brewery has millions of dollars we’re totally going to do this! For now, I’ll enjoy the flapping choir robes.

  5. PamG says:

When my daughter was in marching band, a rival band did Carmina Burana.  We mocked them because their color guard would toss their swords & rifles from behind this huge structure on the field and miss the catch.  Alas, they kicked everyone’s butt anyway.  Though I naturally loathed the other band (parental duty), I do kinda get Orff on Carmina Burana.  Can’t wait to share this with my little band geek.

  6. Gabi Stevens says:

    Have you seen this one.

  7. KimberlyChapman says:

Dear [deity] I don’t even drink but I want to buy some beer just to reward them for that.

  8. Sophydc says:

    That was awesome.

  9. Fiona Lowe says:

I’m an Aussie and at my sons’ school the choir perform Carmina every four years. THe choir mistress always uses this advertisement to appeal to teenagers to join the choir and be involved! Not sure how many are disappointed that beer is not served at rehearsal!  Other community groups are invited to sing and the parents too,. It’s a fab night! Sadly I missed it this year as I was at RWA12 in Anaheim.
    Cheers

I enjoy this one a lot:

  11. ECSpurlock says:

Yes, I love that one; I play it whenever I feel down because it always makes me laugh. The part about the cookies gets me every time and then the octopus sends me right over the edge.

The composer is probably shoveling his way out of his grave right now in outrage, but you have to admit Carmina does lend itself to overblown productions, even if they’re just beer commercials.

  12. boodie says:

The ad was awesome, they filmed it, in case you couldn’t tell, in NZ, all those people were members of the NZ armed forces, the same ones apparently who appeared in those BIG war scenes in LOTR.

  13. Sycorax says:

Agreeing with Ann Somerville here that while the ads are awesome, the beer is terrible.

  14. L K says:

    Loved the O Fortuna animation!
