Classic Romance - Which One First? Rachel Gibson Edition

Classic Romance: Which One First?I asked recently on the SBTB Facebook page which author I should do a Classic Romance: Which One First? list building entry for, and the response was rapidfire listing of really awesome names in romance. Rachel Gibson's name jumped out at me because so far, we've been talking about historical romance authors, but Gibson's been publishing romance since 1998 and has more than 15 books to her credit – which can be overwhelming if you're looking at a row of them in the bookstore and aren't sure which one to pick!

Plus, she has a new book out this week (Rescue Me, out 5/29 [ A | BN | K | S ]), and when I received a copy of it, my first thought was, “Darn it, I keep meaning to read more of her backlist,” but, hey, I'm not sure where to start either. I can't be alone in that!

So, which Rachel Gibson contemporary romance do you recommend new readers try first? Which is your favorite?

Nothing But Trouble was my first RG book and is what really got me started reading romance.  I was hooked!  Thanks Rachel

I loved her Truly, Madly, Yours.  I’ve read all of her other books, although I absolutely hated her Chinooks series, and regret spending the money on them.. Her last book, with the injured player,  had the character written like such as Ass that I couldn’t see why the heroine would have had anything to do with him.

I didn’t like See Jane score.  It’s on my bookshelf, and although I am famous for reading anything on there over and over, I have never picked that one up again.  Never.

Truly, Madly, Deeply is one of my favorites by her – I’m surprised more people haven’t mentioned it. That being said, I love Daisy’s Back in Town, but it is a bit more serious, so I wouldn’t start with it. See Jane Score was actually the first book I started by Gibson and I didn’t feel at all encumbered by the fact that it wasn’t the first book in the Chinook’s series.

I’ve never read any of her books so I just downloaded See Jane Score.  I love this feature – I’ve found some great authors this way!

  5. Elly says:

I loved Truly, Madly, Yours, and added her to my auto-buy because of it.  Lately I’ve felt a bit ripped off by the wide margins and bigger fonts, and between that and not enjoying her books as much, she’s been removed.

I have read all her books but my favorites are 1. See Jane Score, 2. Simply Irresistible (both of which remind me of Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books), 3. Truly, Madly, Yours, 4. Sex, Lies and Online Dating, 5.Tangled up in you and 6. Not another bad date.

  7. Patricia Brehm says:

Have to go with See Jane Score, there are moments of wth but those moments make that book great!

And here it is June 1st and I’m just now finding out that Rachel will be at Anderson’s in Naperville on Sunday. So, if I cancel… and the reschedule… and then… yes, I believe I can do it. Hopefully there will be chocolate again!

  9. Lena says:
