Whatcha Reading?

Time to get all nosy up in your reading list – what are you reading this weekend?

I'm reading several books at once, which is NOT good for my brain, especially when I mix genres, but I started too many things that I like. I have one book on the phone, one on the coffee table, one on my Kindle – it's getting messy. But Pig was right – Liz Fielding's Tempted by Trouble [Goodreads | Amazon | BN | HQN] is really adorable. Plus, Tessa Dare's A Week to be Wicked [Goodreads | Amazon | BN] has been pushing all the happy-joy-joy buttons in my brain, too, and I'm trying to savor that book as well. That's not working as well as I'd planned.

So what books are pushing the happy-joy buttons in your brain this week? What books are you looking forward to reading this weekend? Share, share!

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith.

  2. Susan says:

I finished Elizabeth McCoy’s The Herb-Witch and The Herb-Wife.  I think I found out about them from someone here a couple of weeks ago—thanks.

Devoured the period m/m The Only Gold by Tamara Allen.  It was my first book by her, and she’s now a new favorite author.

Just started Loretta Chase’s The English Witch and am enjoying it.  I think it actually takes place after Isabella, which I got at the same time (re-released at a great price), so I’ll have to read that next.

Love everyone else’s lists; I’ve gotten lots of good ideas.

  3. Ghengis Mom says:

I’m finishing up Entwined by Heather Dixon. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/… Holy cow! What an amazing retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses. I have been obsessed since I started it 2 nights ago.

Then I’ll be moving on to reread a Linda Lael Miller book or two, because I need a dose of McKettricks. Man do I love a quiet, powerful man who is comfortable in his own skin.

I’m also in the middle of reading A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne to my 8 and 9 year olds. I can’t believe I’ve never read this! Then they want to read Kidnapped! (which I have also never read.) Those ebook bundled classics are the best!

  4. MikiS says:

My very-first-ever Carla Kelly romance, The Admiral’s Penniless Bride.  I’m enjoying it very much so far.

  5. Ilona says:

Um let’s see. Well I recently finished Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase and so then i was faced with the age old problem of staring at my TBR pile and feeling a sense of… guilt.
I’ll probably end up doing a re read of a series just to hide from it either Claudia Dain, Ilona Andrews, Victoria Dahl or Thea Harrison, though probs not Thea Harrison purely because I know Aryal’s book is getting written and I’d probably drive myself nuts wanting to read that when I finished.

  6. Charli Denae says:

I just started the Dulcie O’Neil series by H.P. Mallory. I’m 1/3 of the way into the first one, ‘To Kill a Warlock’. So far, so good! It’s interesting and starting to get really good.

    Happy reading!! :o)

  7. Nya Rawlyns says:

In progress: a pre-publication copy of Sound of the Heart by Genevieve Graham, author of Under the Same Sky. I just finished and reviewed Zauran by Poppet (paranormal romance, excellent) and Winner Take All by Denyse Bridger (Western-themed romance that pushed all my sigh buttons).

  8. JennyB says:

Well, I was reading Out of the Deep I Cry until my toddler BROKE MY KINDLE.

Thankfully, my ARC copy of Beguiling the Beauty, signed by the lovely and talented Sherry Thomas, arrived this week, and I’m enjoying the heck out of it.

  9. Tracy Faul says:

I’m re-reading ‘Soulless’ but I also have Christopher Koehler’s ‘Rocking the Boat’ and ‘Tipping the Balance’ (both of which I’ve read in e, but I just got the paper copies & somehow that feels different…) and I have started ‘She’s Not There’ by Jennifer Finney Boylan, which is about her journey through transition as an mtf. It’s fairly interesting; I just have trouble sometimes with memoirs. Also, my puppy ate my bookmark yesterday so I’m going to have to find my place again.

  10. Beth says:

Sherwood Smith’s Banner of the Damned, part of her Sartorias-deles series that takes place mid-way between the Inda quartet and the Crown Duel books. It has love, jealousy, betrayal, an unreliable narrator, and a resounding clash of cultures.

  11. susanblexrud says:

I’m finishing Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon for the book club I lead at Malaprop’s Bookstore in downtown Asheville.  The woman is a master at making emotional conflict the plot, and she takes self-flagellation to a whole new level.  For May, we’re reading 50 Shades of Grey.  I understand the publisher sold out of the first print run and another is expected to hit stores soon.  Such a phenomenon.  A non-reader friend of mine is engrossed.  Note:  non-reader.  What does that tell you?  Books like that (I’m talking the likes of Harry Potter, Twilight saga, The Hunger Games) have a huge impact because they engage new readers.  Whether you like them or hate them, you can’t deny their influence.

  12. MamaKitty says:

I’m reading Fifty Shades of Darker (my co-reviewer MamaMoon insisted that I read the trilogy), Off Limits by Rue Allyn, and The Rebuilding Year by Kaje Harper.

  13. Lenorejago says:

Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas is not to be missed….Enjoy!

  14. lorelai says:

I just finished Lover Reborn by JR Ward the other day (I laughed! I cried!) and I was debating what to pick up next. The comments on this thread settled it – A Week to be Wicked by Tessa Dare!

  15. Annie Q. says:

Reading A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang.

  16. Karin says:

Has anyone read a new YA book called “Grave Mercy”? It sounds great! http://www.robinlafevers.com/b…

  17. Jeannie S. says:

Right now I am addicted to the Sookie Stackhouse series – I’m reading Dead as a Doornail right now. I usually switch my series around, but every time I finish one of the books, I have to know what comes next (and what happens with Eric??).

  18. Christina Auret says:

Promises by Marie Sexton is also pretty great.

  19. Patm says:

I love Julie James so excited to be sitting on the porch ready to read her newest book About That Night

  20. Unveiled, by Courtney Milan.

  21. Kelly says:

I just finished the Kresley Cole immortals after dark series and I’m re-reading A Discovery of Witches. After that, the new JR Ward, Jacob (the night walkers series, I think?) and the three Scottish Kresley Cole books, because I’m a sucker for a highland story. April is for alphas this year, it seems. I’m loading up for ya-may next month, too.

  22. cleo says:

Just finished The Pregnancy Test by Erin McCarthy – sweet, fun read.  Reminded me why I like Erin McCarthy (the last couple in her racing series kind of soured me on her).  And I also read (devoured) two more Pern books (Dragonsinger and Dragondrums) in my Anne McCaffrey memorial re-read glom.  These two, along with Dragonsong, were among my faves growing up and are still really good.  Oh, and I’m slowly working my way through Anne of Ingleside – the last of the Anne of Green Gable books in my re-read of that series, and one that I didn’t read as a girl.  It’s good for reading on my way to work – since it’s not so compelling that I don’t want to put it down.

  23. SandyH says:

All my wish list books from the library came in at the same time. I am reading The Garden Intrigue by Lauren Willig. I have JR Ward’s latest and Suzanne Brockmann’s latest to read. In the wings C.S. Harris When Maiden’s Mourn which I bought – love this series. Can’t wait for Mary Jo Putney’s next book – it sounds wonderful I will download that one to my Kindle as I am scheduled to be traveling.

  24. Tam says:

I just finished Patricia Briggs’ ‘Fair Game’, and oh, it was gorgeous.  This series just gets better and better; I read the first one and could take it or leave it, liked the second, and the third manages to continue the terrific characterisation of the first two while maintaining a tight, suspenseful narrative.  It would be so easy to make Anna a Mary Sue, but she never does it.  And that ending – I’d been warned there was a twist in the ending, and I still didn’t see it coming.

  25. Maria510maria says:

OMGosh! how did I miss the excerpt of the next book at the end of A Week to be Wicked?  This is why I wait until all the books in a series is out before I read them. September is so far away.

  26. I just love the Hunger Games. Already done with the two books and the excitement is still there. The whole story will make you feel all types of emotions. I love the fight, romance and actually, everything about it.

  27. pamelia says:

Just finished reading “Knight” by Kristen Ashley.  So sexy and such a good anti-hero;  he’s a cross between Rehvenge from BDB and Terrible from Downside Ghosts.  Great contemporary (non-paranormal) love story with quite an edge.

  28. KKJ says:

I’m about one-third done with “Her Magic Touch,” the third book of the ridiculously bad “Hell Yeah!” cowboy erotica series that I’ve emailing you about. This installment has the added fun of being paranormal, with the most assholic hero I’ve ever read.

So far I’ve literally had to put it down and walk away three times. My Kindle notes consist of numerous “WTF”s and “Huh???“s, several “OMG”s and “GAH!!!“s, countless “dickhead!“s and “fuckwad!“s and two or three “dumbass!“s. It’s great fun.

  29. Renee Beaver says:

Ohh! I was looking for a Lisa Kleypas book to add to my reading list, but my first thought was to read on of her contemporaries (Ok, maybe I just liked the cover to blue-eyed devil).  But your recommendation has changed my mind: “Devil in Winter” it is!

  30. Nabpaw says:

I just got a Kindle Fire and the first book I downloaded was Catching Fire, the second book in the The Hunger Games trilogy.  I love the Kindle Fire and Catching Fire is ok.  I’m not devouring it whole like I did with the Hunger Games, but its still very absorbing.

  31. JanLo says:

Just finished Love Bleeds by Ilona Andrews and am starting Lover Reborn by J R Ward. Ah, summer reading without papers to grade!!!

  32. JanLo says:

Sorry, not Love Bleeds, it’s Magic Bleeds. Not enough coffee yet.

  33. Lil' Deviant says:

Just finished Wicked As They Come by Delilah S. Dawson.
Enjoyed it.  Thought it was an interesting world.

  34. Bnbsrose says:

I have the memorial reread slotted for July/August.

  35. Allisong says:

Through the Night by Janelle Denison and Born to Darkness by Suzanne Brockmann

  36. Heather says:

I’m reading “An Unexpected Gentleman” by Alissa Johnson. At about the half-way point in the book now, and it’s pretty much made of awesome. I highly recommend it to all of you. It doesn’t hurt that an entertaining story also has a beautiful cover: http://www.amazon.com/AN-Unexp…

  37. KzoeT says:

Our book club is reading 50 Shades this month and I’m betting I am the only one who’s reading it just to mock it.

  38. Heather says:

I started “50 Shades” last week and just lost interest. Erotica or not, that book was boring. Even the sex scenes were dull.

  39. I read “Love Unscripted” and really liked it.  I also read the short story “Hearts in Darkness” —HOT!  And finally “Rock Me”…I have a 7 month old baby and stayed up until 4am reading it and it was totally worth it!

  40. Luciana says:

I recently started the “Storm” series by Sydney Croft although they are admittedly more smutty than romantic (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I’m on the 3rd one – Seduced by the Storm. I’m finding them to be very fast reads.
