Sourcebooks Launches Discover a New Love Book Club

Discover a New LoveInteresting news from Sourcebooks this AM: they're launching an online reading club, “Discover a New Love” for romance fans. For $9.99 per montg  for six months (my apologies for the misinformation), members get exclusive discounts off ebooks (up to 40% according to the site), and the books they buy are DRM-free on a trial basis. Plus, each month's membership yields one free ebook from a selection of four.

The inaugural books featured are Mairana by Susanna Kearsley, Enraptured by Elisabeth Naughton, Lady Maggie's Secret Scandal by Grace Burrowes, and One Hot Cowboy Wedding by Carolyn Brown. There are four additional titles in the Discover store, priced from $4.19 to $14.00. Membership is not required to shop in the bookstore, though the free titles and exclusive opportunities are for members only. And, while she hasn't started writing yet, the blog at Discover a New Love will be hosted by Barbara Vey of Beyond her Book. Which is totally awesome in every possible way (Go, Barbara!).

The online book club will include “online parties and chats with authors, and exclusive early releases to members,” and, according to the press release, “many of the featured ebooks will be available on a worldwide basis.” So no DRM and possibly geographic restriction-free? That is worth a bit of celebrating. CEO Dominique Raccah also threw down the virtual gauntlet to other publishers, saying in the press release and accompanying Wall Street Journal article that “she will make the site available to other publishers, [but] it is unclear whether other houses would allow their titles to be sold without restrictions on book sharing.”

Sourcebooks, who published Everything I Know About Love I Learned from Romance Novels, is offering one 6-month subscription for me to giveaway. Woo!

Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to anyone worldwide 18 years of age or older, and wearing SCUBA gear. Astronauts in the space station are eligible, but sorry, Mars Rovers are not. Hold all questions until the end. For external use only. Do not use while sleeping or bathing.

So have at it: what Sourcebook romance novel would you like to read as part of the club? I'll select one comment at random on Friday 13 April (sorry, forgot the deadline!), and the winner will receive six months free access to the Discover a New Love online book community.

I have been looking at Elisabeth Naughton for a while now but have tried her yet so she would be first for me.  I would love this.  I have been very lucky with Sourcebook titles in the last year or so.

  2. Lorraine says:

I’ve been reading about this new club this morning in different publishing sources.  How exciting—I do love Sourcebooks (if only for helping me finish my Georgette Heyer collection with beautiful covers and nice trade paperback binding).  I enjoy a good regency and have never tried Grace Burrowes.  I see that Lady Maggie’s is part of a series—Yeah, new books to discover!

  3. library addict says:

I’d probably start with Catherine Mann’s new series.

  5. I’ve just joined. Thanks for feeding my addiction. I still have 15 books left to read that I collected from last year’s BEA & RWA conferences. lol. Plus, the books I borrow from the library and the freebie deals they have from kindle. At this rate, I don’t know if I’ll read them all. *sigh* What problems I have!! 🙂

  6. Suz_glo says:

I really liked “The Winter Sea” so I would certainly get “Mariana”, also by Susanna Kearsley. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  7. Aurora says:

I would love to try the Elisabeth Naughton book!

  8. PamG says:

So I check out the entire Sourcebooks catalog, because god forbid I should just choose a title at random to enter the contest, and I really love the selection of reprints, but what is up with all the Austen fan fic?  I think I’d most like to read Goblin King just because of the hours my daughters and I bonded over Labyrinth.  It just sounds like a particularly intriguing take on paranormal.

  9. Ellig says:

I love Mariana (and have a few copies), so I would go with one of the other three… Maybe Grace Burrowes?  I’ve enjoyed her previous books

  10. Brooklyn Ann says:

Elisabeth Naughton is AWESOME. Her first in the series, MARKED kept me occupied while I was getting my first tattoo. 🙂

  11. Lisa J says:

I would definitely go for the Elisabeth Naughton book.

  12. KayS says:

It’s $9.99 for six months. Makes it even better!

Really like Grace Burrowes. Met Carolyn Brown at an author showcase—neat lady!

  13. cleo says:

Making Waves by Tawna Fenske or something by Georgette Heyer.

I’m not good with these membership things – I seem to lack the discipline to use them regularly enough to make them worthwhile (I gave up on both netflicks and amazon prime) – but I will not turn down a free membership.

  14. SB Sarah says:

My apologies for the misinformation – I must have misread an earlier article. The cost of the club is $9.99 for six months. I’m sorry about that!

  15. Fran says:

The Terry Spear paranormals look interesting!  I’ve lately re-entered an attractive-creature-of-the-night phase.

  16. Esther says:

Catherine Mann is the Author I want to read.

  17. JenM says:

I’ve heard good things about Elizabeth Naughton’s series, so Enraptured is the one I’d try first.

  18. Sugarless says:

I’d probably go with Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal for the alliteration in the title alone

  19. Taylor Reynolds says:

Ooooh, Marianna sounds good, and my second choice would be Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal. I’m in a mood for Regencies where at least half the couple has a real job (other than governess) and isn’t necessarily a peer. Kleypas’ Suddenly You was the first I’ve read where both characters are gainfully employed and I loved it!

  20. cyclops8 says:

I’ve been eying Tracey Devlyn’s debut “Lady’s Revenge.”

  21. Jane says:

I would like to try something by Georgette Heyer. I don’t realy read historical romance, but her name keeps popping up. But I’d probably choose Cover Me by Catherine Mann instead.

  22. Katherine O'Grady says:

I would pickup the next book by Stephanie Rowe “Touch if you Dare”. I read “Kiss at your own Risk” and enjoyed it – funny, sexy paranormal. I expect this one to be the same.

  23. J9 says:

Pick me, pick me! Enraptured! Love the series so far & this one is on my TRB(bought) pile.

  24. helenmccusker says:

I would like to read Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal by Grace Burrowes.
    Thank you!

  25. Kathybaug says:

I would pick Mariana.  Thanks for the contest!

  26. DreadPirateRachel says:

“Mariana.” Hell yes, Susanna Kearsley! I loved “Winter Sea” so much that I am still recommending it to people a year after I read it. Seriously, just yesterday I recommended it to my mom and one of my classmates, and I’m seriously considering reviewing it for my Literary Editing class.

  27. rwschwarz11 says:

Mariana by Susanna Kearsley for me as well! Winter Sea and the Rose Garden were fabulous!

  28. M. C. says:

I think Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal by Grace Burrowes would be my choice, since I enjoyed her other books quite a bit. Although I expect that I will end up wanting to read all the things. Which isn’t really helpful when I’ve already got a TBR pile that is beginning to resemble Mt Everest, or would if Everest were partially digital.

  29. Susan says:

I’d try the Elizabeth Naughton book, I think.

Thanks to Sourcebooks, I was able to get all of the Heyer books in e format, and further my collection of DTBs that I had been slowly collecting from various sources over the years.

  30. Jessica_HookEm says:

I’d try One Hot Cowboy Wedding.  The cover looks fun and while I know better than to judge a book by its cover, I’m feeling shallow at the moment so I’ll judge away.

  31. Ekaf2022 says:

    Oracle’s Moon
    Thea Harrison

  32. Julie says:

I’ve been meaning to read one of Susanna Kearsley’s books!  Thanks for the chance to win. 🙂

  33. Silberzauber says:

This may be the final straw that pushes me into buying a tablet. (DRM-free is key.) Contrary to what I said in the cover-model-interview contest, the cover art of “One Hot Cowboy Wedding” (one of this month’s features) is too good to resist—I want to read it just for that!

  34. Joy says:

I might give Cheryl Brooks a spin.  I mean “futuristic” AND “paranormal”—this has got to be a guilty pleasure.

Hey, this is a really good deal and I may sign up.  I don’t plan on sharing with anyone but find DRM problematic since I might change from one ereader to another and want to take my books with me.  DRM-free means I won’t have to worry about circumventing DRM FOR MY OWN BLASTED BOOKS THAT I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR! [end of brief rant]

  35. Karen H near Tampa says:

Carolyn Brown.  I’ve read many of her hot cowboy books and I’m already ready to saddle up for another one!

  36. donna ann says:

so many great possiblilities it’s too hard to make a quick choice 🙂

  37. peggy h says:

I hope Sourcebooks will bring in more of Susanna Kearsley’s backlist titles in e-format (I’m missing Splendour Falls and Named of the Dragon), and those will be on the top of my wishlist.

  38. Mary says:

I’d love to read Believe it or Not by Tawna Fenske.

  39. Lynn Pauley says:

I have enjoyed a number of books by Sourcebooks here lately, so it might pay to join—of course, having a six month free subscription would be great too!!!
It would be hard to choose, but I would have to go with Susanna Kearsley or Grace Burrowes—although the Lydia Dare books look great.
    Thanks for the contest

  40. ksattler says:

If I am to pick from the 4 listed above, I do not know and would love recommendations.  I doubt it would be the cowboy one due to the title.  If not one of the 4, The Seduction of Phaeton Black in your ads has caught my eye as intriguing.
