Interesting news from Sourcebooks this AM: they're launching an online reading club, “Discover a New Love” for romance fans. For $9.99 per montg for six months (my apologies for the misinformation), members get exclusive discounts off ebooks (up to 40% according to the site), and the books they buy are DRM-free on a trial basis. Plus, each month's membership yields one free ebook from a selection of four.
The inaugural books featured are Mairana by Susanna Kearsley, Enraptured by Elisabeth Naughton, Lady Maggie's Secret Scandal by Grace Burrowes, and One Hot Cowboy Wedding by Carolyn Brown. There are four additional titles in the Discover store, priced from $4.19 to $14.00. Membership is not required to shop in the bookstore, though the free titles and exclusive opportunities are for members only. And, while she hasn't started writing yet, the blog at Discover a New Love will be hosted by Barbara Vey of Beyond her Book. Which is totally awesome in every possible way (Go, Barbara!).
The online book club will include “online parties and chats with authors, and exclusive early releases to members,” and, according to the press release, “many of the featured ebooks will be available on a worldwide basis.” So no DRM and possibly geographic restriction-free? That is worth a bit of celebrating. CEO Dominique Raccah also threw down the virtual gauntlet to other publishers, saying in the press release and accompanying Wall Street Journal article that “she will make the site available to other publishers, [but] it is unclear whether other houses would allow their titles to be sold without restrictions on book sharing.”
Sourcebooks, who published Everything I Know About Love I Learned from Romance Novels, is offering one 6-month subscription for me to giveaway. Woo!

I have been looking at Elisabeth Naughton for a while now but have tried her yet so she would be first for me. I would love this. I have been very lucky with Sourcebook titles in the last year or so.
I’ve been reading about this new club this morning in different publishing sources. How exciting—I do love Sourcebooks (if only for helping me finish my Georgette Heyer collection with beautiful covers and nice trade paperback binding). I enjoy a good regency and have never tried Grace Burrowes. I see that Lady Maggie’s is part of a series—Yeah, new books to discover!
I’d probably start with Catherine Mann’s new series.

So I check out the entire Sourcebooks catalog, because god forbid I should just choose a title at random to enter the contest, and I really love the selection of reprints, but what is up with all the Austen fan fic? I think I’d most like to read Goblin King just because of the hours my daughters and I bonded over Labyrinth. It just sounds like a particularly intriguing take on paranormal.
I love Mariana (and have a few copies), so I would go with one of the other three… Maybe Grace Burrowes? I’ve enjoyed her previous books

I’m not good with these membership things – I seem to lack the discipline to use them regularly enough to make them worthwhile (I gave up on both netflicks and amazon prime) – but I will not turn down a free membership.

I’ve heard good things about Elizabeth Naughton’s series, so Enraptured is the one I’d try first.
I’d probably go with Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal for the alliteration in the title alone
Ooooh, Marianna sounds good, and my second choice would be Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal. I’m in a mood for Regencies where at least half the couple has a real job (other than governess) and isn’t necessarily a peer. Kleypas’ Suddenly You was the first I’ve read where both characters are gainfully employed and I loved it!
I’ve been eying Tracey Devlyn’s debut “Lady’s Revenge.”
I would like to try something by Georgette Heyer. I don’t realy read historical romance, but her name keeps popping up. But I’d probably choose Cover Me by Catherine Mann instead.
I would pickup the next book by Stephanie Rowe “Touch if you Dare”. I read “Kiss at your own Risk” and enjoyed it – funny, sexy paranormal. I expect this one to be the same.

“Mariana.” Hell yes, Susanna Kearsley! I loved “Winter Sea” so much that I am still recommending it to people a year after I read it. Seriously, just yesterday I recommended it to my mom and one of my classmates, and I’m seriously considering reviewing it for my Literary Editing class.

I think Lady Maggie’s Secret Scandal by Grace Burrowes would be my choice, since I enjoyed her other books quite a bit. Although I expect that I will end up wanting to read all the things. Which isn’t really helpful when I’ve already got a TBR pile that is beginning to resemble Mt Everest, or would if Everest were partially digital.
I’d try the Elizabeth Naughton book, I think.
Thanks to Sourcebooks, I was able to get all of the Heyer books in e format, and further my collection of DTBs that I had been slowly collecting from various sources over the years.
I’d try One Hot Cowboy Wedding. The cover looks fun and while I know better than to judge a book by its cover, I’m feeling shallow at the moment so I’ll judge away.

This may be the final straw that pushes me into buying a tablet. (DRM-free is key.) Contrary to what I said in the cover-model-interview contest, the cover art of “One Hot Cowboy Wedding” (one of this month’s features) is too good to resist—I want to read it just for that!

I hope Sourcebooks will bring in more of Susanna Kearsley’s backlist titles in e-format (I’m missing Splendour Falls and Named of the Dragon), and those will be on the top of my wishlist.

If I am to pick from the 4 listed above, I do not know and would love recommendations. I doubt it would be the cowboy one due to the title. If not one of the 4, The Seduction of Phaeton Black in your ads has caught my eye as intriguing.
