Sizzling Book Club Pick: Love is a Battlefield by Tamara Morgan

Smart Bitch Sarah's Sizzling Book ClubAt the book club chat with Bella Andre, I announced the April Book Club Pick – and now the rebate is live for your buying pleasure! Plus, I'm giving away five copies for your winning pleasure, so read on!

Love is a Battlefield by Tamara MorganThe April Book Club Pick is: Love is a Battlefield by Tamara Morgan.

Summary, ahoy!  It might be modern times, but Kate Simmons isn’t willing to live a life without at least the illusion of the perfect English romance. A proud member of the Jane Austen Regency Re-Enactment Society, Kate fulfills her passion for courtliness and high-waisted gowns in the company of a few women who share her love of all things heaving.
Then she encounters Julian Wallace, a professional Highland Games athlete who could have stepped right off the covers of her favorite novels. He’s everything brooding, masculine, and, well, heaving. The perfect example of a man who knows just how to wear his high sense of honor—and his kilt.

Confronted with a beautiful woman with a tongue as sharp as his sgian dubh, Julian and his band of merry men aren’t about to simply step aside and let Kate and her gaggle of tea-sippers use his land for their annual convention. Never mind that “his land” is a state park—Julian was here first, and he never backs down from a challenge.

Unless that challenge is a woman unafraid to fight for what she wants…and whose wants are suddenly the only thing he can think about.

As usual, if you use SBTBARE at checkout, you will get a 50% eBook Bucks Rebate at AllRomance.com, the official sponsor of the Sizzling Book Club. The 50% rebate at AllRomance will be valid from April 1-15, 2012. This book is currently only available digitally.

The rebate price at ARe is ridiculously awesome – and please note, this is a rebate, which means Ebook Bucks will be available for your shopping pleasure if you purchase the book there. You can read more about the eBook Bucks at All Romance.

Curious how to read a digital book? There’s a list of options for software to read ebooks at the ARe site, and of course there’s free apps from Amazon and BN should you wish to try those, too.

But wait, there's more!

The Book Club Chat will be on April 26 at 9:00 pm ET. Tamara Morgan will be joining us for Q&A at 10:00 pm. Want to add it to your calendar? Here, have a button:

If you've never joined us for book club chat night, it's a lot of fun, and very silly and casual. Even if you don't enjoy the book (though I hope you do!) I hope you come by to talk about it. I really liked this funny contemporary romance, and I hope you will do.

But wait, there's STILL MORE:

I'm giving away five copies of the book to anyone who would like to try it out. Just leave a comment telling which era of historical reenactment would tempt you the most, if you're not already a fan – Regency? Historical Scotland? Ren Faire? What period of reenactment is most appealing to you? I'll pick five winners in 48 hours.

Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international and local residents aged 18 and older wearing kilts or trews. Most people prefer trews. Don't toss your caber.

  1. AuburnGirl says:

Historical Scotland all the way!!!  Love the accent 😉

  2. I’d go for Rome. That way, I could make my clothes out of pretty sheets!

  3. Socaltree says:

Regency England… Honor, rules, women that defy those rules and the men that tempt them… Gotta love it!

  4. Julie Ritenour says:

I’ve been to Ren Faire many times, and my kids have worked there (my son was even, one year, in a kilt). But for me, I’d chose Regency. That’s my typical choice for romances, too. Though I have to say, the Georgian costumes would be fun to see – they are so over-the-top!

  5. Lil' Deviant says:

    Men in kilts!  Purrrr!

I am excited about this book.  It has my two favorites Scottish Highlands and English Regency.  It will be fun!

  6. Emily says:

Regency, I think. Or Elizabethan, that could be cool, too.

  7. Bnbsrose says:

Definitely the Gilded Age. Oh, the things that were happening in Chicago back in the day. And the people: Jane Addams, Ida B. Wells, Frances E. Willard. And those dresses. Yes, that’s the one for me.

  8. Ashlandbaby says:

Historical Scotland. Mmmmm, men in kilts…

  9. MaddBookish says:

I love me some kilts and am a fan of Regency, Elizabethan, and Medieval periods, but I’ve got to go with Victorian. The old world starting to come in to the new. Plus, it spawned Steampunk, which I love.

  10. meganhwa says:

I think I would like Regency though historical Scotland would be fun if only for the dancing

  11. Kim S. says:

Ugh—there are several time periods I’d go for: Regency, Victorian (England), Civil War-era US South (I’m a sucker for lost causes)…as long as it’s historically accurate. 😉

  12. Maggie says:

Victorian – for the corsets and bustles

  13. Shannon says:

I do medieval and celtic re-enactment but would love to do Georgian 🙂

  14. Lisa Pegg says:

I am just an underskirt shy of having a complete Ren Faire outfit (okay, it’s a chemise and dress, no shoes or anything), and it’s much fun to fluff up the “girls” and wander the Faire.  I don’t need re-enactment for a Scottish man in a kilt, as I have one for a lover. And yes, he wears it properly, which he is perfectly willing to show anyone who asks. Oddly endearing, I must say.

I do like twirly skirts though, and love Regency novels, so I’d like to try that as long as I can be of the Ton. And not in a family that’s up the river Tick.

  15. Teri Hack says:

oh send me to the scottish highlands where the men all wear kilts and herd sheep with big ?! swords!

  16. Aurora85 says:

I’m honestly unsure, but I think I’ve always been drawn to medieval times (though I’d definitely change my religion if I were to go back then…) I also am fascinated by ancient times of Greece and Rome. (Ancient as in ancient, farther than Julius Caesar even.) and perhaps even Egypt.

  17. SLMA says:

Mid-Victorian for me!  But George-Eliot-snark-ridden mid-Victorian only, please… corsets need not apply.
