This weekend I'm in the car with the family heading out for vacation, and I plan to read as much as I can in the car. While the kids are awake, I read magazines, because it's easier for me to stop reading an article than it is a book. When I read a book, I tend to be completely unaware of everything but the book, and that can be troublesome for everyone else in the car on long road trips (much as I personally enjoy it). So while the kids are awake, magazines, and stretching and working out those left and right oblique muscles as I go-go-Gadget-arm to reach things that have fallen on the floor. But once they sleep, I have about 10 books saved up to read in the car, and for the rest of the week. Vacation reading is somehow extra special.

I managed to find 3 of the 4 Essex sisters series by Eloisa James (Much Ado About You, etc) at a friends of the library sale for cheeps, so I’ve been reading them (completely out of order). They are delightful! Now I must go pay full price for Kiss Me, Annabel, which I have been leery about because of its stupid name. But the series is so very cute!
Ooh, the Essex Sisters is my favorite Eloisa James series! Kiss Me, Annabelle was actually pretty good. I was surprised at the depth Annabelle showed compared to how she seemed in the first book.
I just finished THE ART OF THE KAMA SUTRA (and reviewed it on http://thearmchaircritic.blogs… ), which was pretty good. More than just a collection of sexual positions, this has a lot on relationships and how interactions between men and woman are often the same today as in ancient times.
I am not sure. Probably an Amazon freebie :D. If you like crime novels, Killer Instinct by Zoe Sharp is free on Amazon until Sunday. For people outside the US (with an Amazon store) Book of Shadows by Alexandra Sokoloff is also free.

I started “Untamed” by Elizabeth Lowell the other day. I bought it a few weeks ago when it was on sale (along with about five or six of her other books). So far it’s interesting although the hero is a bit to alpha for my tastes. But if the book goes where I think it’s going, he’ll be softening up at some point.

I just reread Bet Me last weekend. Jennifer Crusie is the Goddess of Romantic Comedy. This weekend, I’m reading Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series.
There’s nothing quite like cramming ninety books in my purse (via the Kindle,) when setting out for new adventures!
I’m slogging through an old Marsha Canham historical, Swept Away, and I’m feeling much older than when I started. Next up needs to be something shorter and not set in the Regency. Maybe Angelfall.
I’m so jealous that you can read in the car, SBSarah. I get stupidly carsick if I try. Last weekend, I was trying to take a price tag off a pair of shoes I had just purchased, and within seconds, I felt vomititious. I was sick all afternoon.
As for what I’ll be reading this weekend, I’ve got a week and a half to turn in three major research projects, so I’ll be reading literary journals and writing like a madwoman, alas. But after I’ve finished, I’ll be free! Free, for two whole weeks. I’m thinking I should probably take a trip this spring break, since it’s my last one ever.
I’ll be finishing up Sabrina Jeffries “To Wed a Wild Lord” #4 in the Hellions of Halstead Hall series. I’m liking Gabriel a lot so far. After that it’ll be Nevada Barr’s latest – which had better be an improvement over the last one. I’m shocked how many more go to’s I’ve been stricking off the list rather than adding.

For physical books, I’m reading Robin Hobb’s Farseer trilogy and in the middle of the last book. Not much on the romance front, but still, a good read. On my ColorNook, I have “A Weekend with Mr. Darcy” and liking that too. I see a couple listed above in the sales I must go look at tho. :o)
Zoe Sharps books are amazing. Charlie Fox is one of the best female protagonist I’ve come across in years. The first one was out of print when I started on the series, so I’ve not read it yet, but I can and do highly recommend the rest of them. I check out her website regularly hoping for a release date for next. Be warned though she’s a bit of a divil for cliffhangers.
Last week I finished Bill Bryson’s A walk in the woods and A discovery of witches by Deborah Harkness (talk about degree of difficulty! Witches and vampires and mitochondrial DNA, oh my!) Then I somehow wandered into all these books that feature Death as a character: Darynda Jones’ First grave on the right and Second grave on left (I have to go get Third grave…whatever—heroine as Grim Reaper), Kalayne Price’s Grave witch series (Death as would-be boyfriend), Amber Benson’s Calliope Reaper Jones series (Death as a family-owned, multinational corporation), and Keturah and Lord Death, a YA fairy tale. And when I want to ride the merry-go-round instead of a roller coaster, Dry storeroom no.1, a history of the British Museum (Natural History). Next weekend, who knows?
Spellbound Falls by Janet Chapman. Okay, the series has gotten silly (Atlantis?!) but I do like it.
I’m reading “Labyrinth” by Lois McMaster Bujold. Felt like getting my Miles on. 😉
I’m re-reading Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts. i love this book and I finally found my copy again.
I’m reading “The Dead-Tossed Waves” by Carrie Ryan, the sequel to the YA post-zombie-apocalypse novel “The Forest of Hands and Teeth.” I’m still not sure if I like it, or at least the main character, but I’m intrigued enough with the story and the world she’s built to keep reading.
Timeless by Gail Carriger! I saw this book in a store yesterday, and immediately snatched one up – the Parasol Protectorate books are made of win!! 😀
Re-reading “An Unexpected Gentleman” by Alissa Johnson. I hadn’t read the previous book in the series the first time I read it, so now the backstory with Colin being in prison makes a lot more sense. Her heroes are always sparklingly charming. I would totally agree to marry a man who suggested I should marry him out of hate to squander his fortune and burn down his houses.
I’ll be reading Emilie by Cherie Claire, which is an Acadian romance. This month my romance bookclub is trying to each read a book that could have been about our ancestors. I couldn’t find any that actually took place in French Canada, but this at least starts out there. I’m expecting WTFery galore.

Just finished Thread of Death and now reading By a Thread by Jennifer Estep. I’ve enjoyed this series a lot. I am really cheering for Owen and feeling sort of swoony about how he’s supporting Gin. I may go back and grab an early In Death next, as I am slowly reading that series or I may jump into Raven Cursed by Faith Hunter. One of the comments reminded me of Grave Witch by Kalayna Price so I need to go see what new books have come out in her series! Lot’s of good suggestions here. Had an appalling day yesterday and as a result went to my favourite bookshop and the lovely ladies there recommended I buy First Grave on the Right by Daynda Jones. I’m up to chapter eight and enjoying it muchly
I started the Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman this week in anticipation of the upcoming release of Doubletake. I’m reading Roadkill now and just have Blackout to go. Really enjoying the series.
When I’m done w/ Cal & Co., I have a raftload of new releases in the queue—Lauren Willing, Gail Carriger, C.E. Murphy, Kim Harrison, Connie Suttle. . . . Never enough time!
I already had The Madness of Angels on my Kindle, but was putting off starting the series because I thought there was a book before that one that is only available in HB—but maybe I was mistaken.

Somewhere warm. I normally tolerate the PNW winters pretty well, but lately I’ve been fantasizing about tropical and/or desert islands (never a good sign when you’re stuck in the middle of an Oregon rainstorm). My Pinterest is flooded with pictures of Hawaii and Santorini.

I just finished the 3rd book in Lorelei James’ Rough Riders series, Cowgirl Up and Ride (I think that was the title.) It was really good and amazingly better than the first two in the series, so I’m beginning to see what my friends’ fuss is about.
Next up for me is The Hunger Games. I’m finally going to read it.
I’m close to finished with Into the Storm (one of Suzanne Brockmann’s Troubleshooters series) on audio and I’m really enjoying it. Next up on audio will be a Fountain Filled with Blood or Celebrity In Death, whichever I get first.
@SBSarah – I am the same with with not being able to read in the car. Not due to carsickness, but due to the book crankiness I get when my go-go-gadget hands are required to pass back treats and entertainment to the youngsters.
Re-reading Ravished by Amanda Quick. Think a thread here reminded me of – enjoying it – really needing a comfort read this weekend. I read something by Karina Bliss yesterday (Here Comes the Groom, I think) – liked it but didn’t love it. This is the second well reviewed / highly recommended KB that I liked ok but didn’t love, so I’m thinking she’s not really for me.
Re-read Dragon Flight by Anne McCaffrey recently. I read it so long ago that I thought I didn’t remember much about it, but as I read it I kept knowing what was going to happen next. Really struck by how influential this book was – kept reminding me of Sharon Shinn’s Archangel and other (later) books.
Ragnar and Juliet was a DNF for me. BUT the trailer (with Barbies and Spacepunk!) is a scream. I was just sorry the book wasn’t as good as the video.
Last weekend I read EVERYTHING by Kelly Hunter. I was feeling sorry for myself that there was nothing left to read, but then Caroline Linden’s Blame it on Bath downloaded itself to my Kindle, so I’ll be reading that. I love pre-ordered books!
A Horrible Experience of Unbearable Length by Roger Ebert, which is not living up to the title. (And probably won’t last ‘til Saturday.)
I just finished a huge Vampire Marathon with all the Jeanne Frost Night Huntress Books and Lothaire by Kresley Cole…Now I need a mystery…so this weekend is Catch Me by Lisa Gardner in between reading a book for work ..a chapter of Catch Me, a chapter for work.
After watching the second episode of “Miss Fisher’s Mysteries” I am feeling like going through my boxes and finding all of the Phryne Fisher books for a nice weekend read. I do notice that they are finally on Kindle, but struggle to justify the cost when I have all of the paper versions.
I was going to read Goddess of Legend by P.C. Cast, but I just couldn’t get into it. (Mostly because of the heroine.) :/
So now I’m starting Scandal, by Amanda Quick.
