RSS FEED ALERT: Please Update Your Feeds

funny pictures - I's in ur studio Adjustin' ur levelz

If you are reading this in a RSS reader, this entry is for you.

Feedburner has stopped updating entries automatically, and the only way it refreshes the feed is for me to go and do so manually. Most mornings I can do that, which is why you might notice entries that went live around midnight appearing around 8-9am Eastern time. Sometimes I can't, which is why you'll notice that sometimes four or five entries appear at once – and you've missed something, for which I apologize a LOT.

I've tried renaming the feed, recreating it, and pinging it. We even asked at the Expression Engine forums (this site is powered by Expression Engine) and other folks have reported that Feedburner is finicky, and sometimes just stops for no apparent reason. I haven't had any luck asking Feedburner why my feeds are no longer updating automatically as they should. We've tried three different feeds and all of them work except in Feedburner.

So, if Feedburner is going to be, as I said once of iTunes, like a passive aggressive heroine who is mad at the hero but won't tell him what he did wrong, it's time to dump Feedburner.

Thus I have to ask you to update your feeds.

I am so sorry to ask you to do this. As per my most recent Feedburner stats, there are several thousand of you, and I apologize deeply for having to ask this of you.

The feed for the blog is:

The feed for the podcast is:

ETA: And, as @datadiva pointed out, you'll want to unsubscribe from the Feedburner feed, too.

Again, I apologize. A lot. Profusely, in fact.

I really appreciate the notice—what deserves asking for an apology is when bloggers make feed changes without any attempt to let subscribers know.

Thanks so much for the heads up! I think we have all been equally frustrated by these shenanigans…and unfortunately there wasn’t anything any of us could do about it! Glad you found a way to fix it, even if it was time-consuming. I love your site and really appreciate all the lovely work you do!

Oh, thanks, ladies. That makes me feel better. I’ve been trying to find a solution that wasn’t, “Hey, y’all, change the feed please?” because I was convinced there had to be a way to fix it on my end. Alas, not. I just have to drop Feedburner all together.

I am so sorry it’s been frustrating, but subscribing to the direct feed and cutting FBurner out should restore all immediate Bitchery action to your feed reader.

Updated!  Thanks for letting us know; like Cyranetta said, sometimes blogs change their feeds and don’t tell anyone.  It’s an easy minute of updating on the part of RSS subscribers, which will save you hours of frustration from the sound of it!

I think I made the switch a few weeks ago, actually since I noticed this problem too! I hope other Feedburner users aren’t experiencing this problem as well.

Thanks, y’all. I apologize for the pain in the tushness of having to swap the RSS!

Thanks for letting us know. I was just wondering yesterday what was going on with SBTB and my reader. :)

I don’t have an RSS feed so no problem for me, but I was wondering…Sarah, what is the most helpful way to let you know if something on the site (or feed or so on) is not working, or is working strangely? For example, a few weeks ago some of the recent comments showing on the sidebar were indeed recent comments, but were listed as part of the wrong blog post. (Most that I saw were incorrectly cited another recent blog post, but one was from 2005.) Emails from 300 people about the same thing have got to be a nuisance, but zero emails don’t accomplish anything. I’ve looked around for something like a ‘report’ function, but haven’t found one. What works best?

    SB Sarah says:

Hey Aziza: I think we fixed the error you saw, but you can absolutely always email me. If you see something wrong, I don’t mind getting 300 email messages about it, so long as it gets fixed!

Oh good, I was wondering what the hell was up with the delay in posts showing up in my Google Reader. I’ve already made the switch there and will adjust my podcast subscription as well. Thanks for all your work, Sarah! We of the Bitchery appreciate it!
