Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: She’d Totally Read That

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

Ilex emailed me a HaBO query in the form of an IM conversation she had with a friend about this book. It's hilarious.

I was wondering if HaBO could, well, HaBO. I'm your pretty standard,
used-to-sneak-my-mom's-harlequins-during-highschool-algebra type.
Unfortunately, my mom can't remember this particular gem, and I (and now my
friend below) would kill to find this cracktastic romance now. (Okay, maybe
we'd just kill bugs, but still…) It's taken me so long to get around to
emailing you on this matter, however, that I've decided to just c/p our
conversation for simplicity's sake. We had been discussing the re-issue of
Nora Roberts' backlist when the topic came up…

<<me>>
hey you might know

<<friend>>
dude 1986!!!!

<<me>>
there was this book i read of my mom's
and i think it was one of the gold-framed covered – maybe the later
silhouettes or something
but it was about this executive ceo type and his assistant
and he's the stereotypical cold bastard
but they go to some kind of executive shindig and he gets drunk and she has
to get him into his limo, where he kisses her
and then they have these dreams about each other
all in different historical eras

<<friend>>
snort!
ha! omfg i'd totally read that
now

<<me>>
like, one is ancient rome
and another is like ww1 or something

<<friend>>
and wth is up with all the cold heartless execs in old romances?
lol

<<me>>
and it's all angsty because they keep getting separated or dying or
something
and it's totally “soul mates reincarnated” tropey stuff

<<friend>>
dude!

<<me>>
i'm so frustrated my mom doesn't even remember it

<<friend>>
you HAVE to find what that books is

<<me>>
and like, they find out that they're actually lucid-dreaming with each other
after the third dream
anyway, like the third dream one or both of them dies and she wakes up
sobbing hysterically and runs in the pouring rain or something to his house

<<friend>>
dude you have to HABO i bet the bitches would be able to figure it out
lmao

<<me>>
lol

<<friend>>
i TOTALLY want to read it now

…..

So, bitches, I beg of you – any bells ringing? 1980s gold-framed cover (was
that the candlelight series? Can't remember…) Lucid-dreaming, cold-hearted
CEO, reincarnated souls, drunken limo kisses?? We really want some
cracktastic reincarnation 80s madness!! HALP!

Someone remembers this book, right? RIGHT? Reincarnated soul mate CEOs? TOTAL win. Anyone remember this book?

Please someone know this – I must read it. Also, I want to be friends with more people who read romance. My friends just snort at me. But they don’t know… it’s so addicting…

  2. Rebecca Frost says:

Not the HaBO but similar plot of soul mates/past lives remembering: Lake of Dreams by Linda Howard.

  3. Katherinelynn_04 says:

I love this HaBO. Don’t know this particular book, but it multiple lives IS the subject of not just one, but TWO YA books (series) that are just recent. (Torment and the Immortals if I recall correctly). They are both awful in an awesome way (aka awfsome). So if you can’t find this one, you have these to fall back on!

  4. Alison Kale says:

I thought I finally knew a HaBO! I don’t, but I also have a past life one for those interested: Soulmates by LJ Smith, who, um, happened to write The Vampire Diaries. So there’s a high level of YA cheese, but I remember it being awesome.

  5. Comic Girl says:

I’m totallygoing to keep an eye on this one, it sounds too hilarious to pass up!

  6. ijinx says:

There is an old Vigrinia Henley book (Enslaved) and an even older Jude Deveraux (Remembrance) taking on the topic of past lifes. They were middling in quality.
But alas, I cannot remember this one >.< I wish someone would, though!

  7. wingednike says:

I love L.J. Smith’s Night World series; it’s much better than the Vampire Diary books and not that cheesy at all. Have you read The Forbidden Game Trilogy? Julian would make such a great romance novel hero

I can’t help much with the HABO title but I can provide a little extra info. A gold frame book is a Candlelight Ecstasy Romance and not a regular Candlelight Romance

  8. Arabella says:

Somebody pleeeeease tell us the name of this book! I have to read it!

  9. Shana says:

Is it Time After Time by Billie Green?

  10. cleo says:

I also thought of remembrance. That’s such a crazy book. I totally rolled my eyes reading it but it made an impression.

  11. Deb Stover says:

I don’t think I’ve ever read this book, but I definitely want some of what they were drinking at that party! 😉

  12. rockwench says:

    Good one—I’ve read that too.

  13. ilex says:

I think it might actually be Time After Time… I’m googling it get more details but the cover, while it’s not the gold-frame I thought I remembered, is very familiar, and the synopsis matches! EEP!

  14. ilex says:

I forgot to add, LOVE YOU, HABO!

  15. Sally says:

It’s not the book in question, but ‘Mesmerised’ by Candace Camp has soulmates in past lives reunited in the Regency with obligatory ‘remembering through dreams’ and stuff. Also some murders and a fake psychic.

  16. nurcat says:

Totally with you on the Night World series….SOOOO much better than the Vampire Diaries ( and the Secret Circle )… Did LJ Smith ever publish book 10 of NW ? – I hate an unfinished series !

  17. zinemama says:

No idea on the HABO, but another book in this genre is The Nonesuch Lure by Mary Luke, about lovers reincarnated (I think) through the ages, who never get to be together until their modern iterations meet up. My sister and I LOVED this book, which totally hit the sweet spot in its combination of romance and psychic/creepy/supernatural stuff.

  18. Fran says:

LJ Smith is working on book 10 of the Night World series.

  19. Midnight Peapod says:

if it is Time After Time – you can get it on Amazon for $0.01!!! http://www.amazon.com/Time-Aft…

  20. Midnight Peapod says:

This is actually NerdyLutheranChick – I apparently logged into this email first – yay for google multi-login!

  21. Midnight Peapod says:

Okay, so the Customer Review on the Amazon page (linked above in my first comment) has the BEST QUOTE: “Leah listened to him with a blank expression on her normally vital face. he was actually offering her an explanation of his actions, she thought in astonishment. That was like God making a special trip down just to explain why He had created snails.”

  22. ilex says:

I know! I totally ordered it! 😀 And I remembered that line, too!

  23. Allie says:

…i ordered it as well! it just sounds too awesome to pass up
