Hanukkah Day Six: Touchable Hanukkah!

Book CoverSorry for the delay in today's Hanukkah giveaway! I totally thought this went live this morning but it didn't. My bad! Blame all the fried food I've been eating – makes me sleepy!

Anyway, today's present for you from me is a chance to win a Kindle Touch! Yay! All you have to do is leave a comment with the one holiday song you are SO LOOKING FORWARD TO NOT HEARING ANYMORE.

ETA: I goofed! I want to be clear: this contest is for a Kindle Touch 3G with Special Offers! I linked to the WiFi-only model, but it's the 3G/WiFi/Special Offers model. My bad!

Me: “All I Want for Christmas is You,” which for some reason I have heard six millionity times this week, and “Jingle Bell Rock,” which makes my eyeballs twitch.

Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. (I have to say, I'm amused at the idea of even asking someone to sponsor all this crazy. Imagine that conversation!) Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited by law. Must be over 18 and wearing slippers to win. Open to international winners though it is your responsibilty to make the Kindle do tricks for you. Call before you dig. Preheat to 350.

Happy almost the end of holiday music on the radio, and Happy Hanukkah, and oh! Happy Boxing Day!

  1. Mary says:

I do not need to hear Santa Baby (by anyone) ever again.

  2. Azure says:

If I have to hear Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” one more time, I’ll scream.  It seems like every other Christmas song I heard this year was that one.  GAH!!!!

  3. Amitatuq says:

I don’t know how Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer became a song but it never needs to be heard again.

  4. The Christmas Shoes. That song is so utterly depressing. I cry whenever I hear it play and have to turn to another station.

  5. JennyME says:

The Drummer Boy…can’t stand that song.

  6. Aphasia says:

I’m going to have second Bruce Springsteen doing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”; because I don’t ever want to hear that stupid song but unlike all the other carols, which I just switch the station in a jiffy on, this one gives me a pang, because every time I get happy to hear Bruce’s voice on the radio and think, maybe it isn’t so bad, maybe I should listen to it… But it is so bad.

  7. “Santa Baby” hands down because if you’re going to be a golddigger…have a little subtlety, please. 🙂

  8. Valerie Griswold-Ford says:

The Christmas Shoes.  OMG, I hate that song!  And yet, it always makes me cry!!!!!

  9. Lovetoreadforfun says:

Christmas Shoes. That has got to be the most depressing Christmas song EVER!!!!

  10. Beth Yarnall says:

Does the song from those JLo commercials count? No? Then how about Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer? That song is sooo annoying.

  11. Deerhart says:

I have to agree Jingle bell rock is like nails on a chalkboatd

  12. Iokijo says:

I’ve been lucky enough to avoid almost all of them.. but the one I would really rather never hearing again is Grandma got run over by a Reindeer. [seems a common thought]
Thanks for the chance at the kindle…

No slippers to wear, I gave them all to my Mom.. have wider feet & so they don’t make her bunions hurt : )

  13. Sue says:

‘Rocking around the sodding Christmas Tree’ makes me very stabby.

  14. Judither says:

Celine Dion singing Lennon’s un-christmassy “So this is Christmas.” (Or whatever the name of that song is…)

  15. @DirtyOldBroad says:

Am uber-sick of Santa Baby (aka, Ode to the Sugar Daddy)…blech.  The one I can never get enough of:  Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland….but only b/c I can hear my hubbies alternative lyrics: walking in my winter underwear (and he sings it in his oof-da accent).

  16. Kathy Martin says:

Goodness! It has to be a toss-up between “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” and “I Saw Mama Kissing Santa Claus”. They seemed to be on any time I turned on the radio.

  17. Suz Glo says:

Feliz Navidad. As happy and upbeat as that song is, I cannot stand it.

  18. Cialina says:

For some reason, I keep getting the NSYNC rendition of Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays stuck in my head. I’m quite tired of it by now.

  19. Hillary Wade says:

I’m ready to stop hearing Mi Burrito Sabanero! 🙂 It’s cute, but I think that Colombia basically only has 10 different Christmas songs, so there’s no variety. I’ve had to sing all the rest myself, and to make it worse, I’ve found that I’m forgetting some! I’ll have to brush up for next year.

  20. Eliza Evans says:

I kind of accidentally put the Barking Dogs Christmas on my mega-Christmas spotify playlist.  So any of those!

  21. clynn886 says:

The Christmas Shoes, so so so so so much. BOOOO to emotionally manipulative claptrap.

  22. Srbagby50 says:

That song where just the piano and snare drum play.

  23. kmblue says:

I have a burning need to not hear “Let it Snow” by Boyz II Men. I live in Philadelphia and they have to play them at least SEVEN times an hour, no matter what the station except for the Rock stations because they are Philly boys. No me gusta!

  24. Patti Williams says:

I don’t want to hear anymore versions of “Baby its Cold Outside” ever again. It seemed to be on the radio every single time I got in the car

  25. AndreaP says:

I work in a credit union inside a Walmart and their Christmas music was on a 30 minute loop and I work 10 hour days… Needless to say the math was not in my favor. So while I will be glad to be Christmas music free for the next 11 months, the two that stick out the most for me are “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by Band Aid and “Little St Nick” by The Beach Boys. Both were previously ok to listen to once or twice a season, now my ears plead for mercy…

  26. Clbevill says:

If I hear ‘I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ by John Mellencamp one more time I’m gonna ralph.  I swear.

  27. Jbriggs60 says:

My work had a station on for the entire month with 30’s 40’s etc, I can say if I hear “What will Santa Claus say when he finds everybody swinging” One more time I will probably go postal.

  28. Charity says:

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and also “Baby It’s Cold Outside” or whatever that vaguely not-OK song is titled.

  29. Diana Rice says:

Santa Baby. Cannot stand listening to starlet of choice crooning about an old man in a red suit. Ick!

  30. Maria S says:

I hate Santa Baby in any and all forms

  31. All I Want for Christmas is You in ANY version (but esp Mariah) and Chestnuts roasting etc i.e. Merry Christmas. Ugh.

  32. Juliel G says:

John Lennon’s “Happy Christmas (War is Over)”. I worked Saturday and Sunday with the radio in the background and it seemed they played it every other hour.

By yesterday afternoon I would’ve thrown the radio out a window had there been one close enough!

  33. Plastic Santa says:

It has got to be I’ll Be Home for Christmas. Everybody has a version on every Christmas album. And for some reason my iPod liked to play them all in a row. Random much?

  34. holly says:

Ohhhh, there are so many holiday songs that just grate. Jingle Bell Rock, Santa Clause Is Coming To Town, Feliz Navidad, and Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer top my list, though.

I generally stay away from the radio and muzak (if I can!) during the holidays.

  35. Jeannie Smith says:

The Christmas Shoe song – way too contrived….

  36. Rebecca W. says:

I’ll be happy not to hear “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” again. So irritating!

  37. Swedishsis says:

All christmas music. They have started playing it so early that I am completely burnt out on it by the 24th!!!

  38. Marc says:

Santa Baby has to be my least favorite at the beginning of the season so by the end…I feel like banging my head on the dash when it comes on.

  39. MaestraFX says:

For some unknown reason, Frosty the Snowman was on TV and I didn’t turn the channel.  By the end of that horrible show, they must have played Frosty the Snowmand a gajillion times.  No More Frosty – ever!

  40. Lori says:

This year’s “winner” for me was The 12 Days of Christmas. If I never heard any version of that not sung by Bob & Doug Mackenzie again it would be just fine with me.
