Hanukkah Day Six: Touchable Hanukkah!

Book CoverSorry for the delay in today's Hanukkah giveaway! I totally thought this went live this morning but it didn't. My bad! Blame all the fried food I've been eating – makes me sleepy!

Anyway, today's present for you from me is a chance to win a Kindle Touch! Yay! All you have to do is leave a comment with the one holiday song you are SO LOOKING FORWARD TO NOT HEARING ANYMORE.

ETA: I goofed! I want to be clear: this contest is for a Kindle Touch 3G with Special Offers! I linked to the WiFi-only model, but it's the 3G/WiFi/Special Offers model. My bad!

Me: “All I Want for Christmas is You,” which for some reason I have heard six millionity times this week, and “Jingle Bell Rock,” which makes my eyeballs twitch.

Standard disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. (I have to say, I'm amused at the idea of even asking someone to sponsor all this crazy. Imagine that conversation!) Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited by law. Must be over 18 and wearing slippers to win. Open to international winners though it is your responsibilty to make the Kindle do tricks for you. Call before you dig. Preheat to 350.

Happy almost the end of holiday music on the radio, and Happy Hanukkah, and oh! Happy Boxing Day!

I’ve mostly avoided songs this year. I guess I went in stores that were too full of people to be able to hear the music? And did the rest online? But I’d have to agree with the Mariah Carey (though the British Navy version was fun).

And my slippers are on the floor and my feet up on the windowsill soaking in the sun. I’ll put the slippers back on immediately, I promise!

  2. Any Michael Bublé Christmas songs, I don’t get him.

  3. Laura says:

Egads, only one?  I’d have to go with Springsteen’s version of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, which every NY radio station seems to play incessantly.

  4. Tracy Faul says:

Honestly, the only music I listen to anymore is whatever’s on my iPod, so there’s nothing on there I hate to hear. I *will*, however, be *very* relieved to no longer hear my 11YO daughter and her tenor sax practicing “Jingle Bells” and “Good King Wenceslaus” over and over and over again for the winter band concert, if that counts!

  5. Um, yes, I know I’ll probably be derided for this one, but Lucy and Linus by Vince Guaraldi…in fact, pretty much any of his Peanuts compositions. About the only Snoopy-related song that I still have any love for is “Snoopy vs. the Red Baron” by The Royal Guardsmen.

  6. JayHJay says:

Oh, i have to second Esther on Michael Buble!  I don’t even like his non-holiday songs!

  7. Hollygee says:

I also was able to avoid Christmas songs as I didn’t have much shopping to do (not that I was super-prepared, but only bought one gift, for SIL). But do I have to hear Frosty again in this lifetime?

  8. Carla says:

Anything at all by Mariah Carey. Seriously, I have heard too many of her holiday sings this year.

  9. Rita Sawyer says:

I wouldn’t mind not hearing It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas. Is that even the title? Uhggg they must have it looped to play every half hour.

  10. Maya S says:

If I never hear “Christmas Shoes” again, it will be too soon. I only tolerate its existence because Patton Oswalt has an amazing bit skewering it.

  11. Jenn says:

It would be easier to list which songs I didn’t hear enough of!!  If I had to hear Springsteen’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”; John Lennon’s (or various cover versions) “Happy Christmas (War is Over); or Band Aid’s “Do they Know It’s Christmas” I was going to scream.  I wanted to hear more Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Christmas Eve in Sarajevo (1984); Bing Crosby and David Bowie’s duet; “Snoopy’s Christmas;” “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and just more from Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, etc.  I listen to one of those radio stations that starts Christmas music in November, and I have to say the canned music they played on CHristmas Eve and Christmas day was MUCH better than what they played from November to December 23rd!

  12. Laura (in PA) says:

I’d be happy never to hear The Christmas Shoes ever again as long as I live. And I’ve also gotten sick of All I Want For Christmas Is You, which it seems everyone and their brother is now doing a version of. But I kind of like the other song by that name, by Vince Vance and the Valients, which I’ve only heard once this season.

  13. Pam C says:

Oh This Christmas. It seems like the only Christmas songs I’ve heard this year. Ugg!

  14. Laura T says:

I know we live in the sticks, because for me it’s “Grandma got run over by a reindeer”.

  15. Pam C says:

Opps I mean the only Christmas SONG.

  16. girlygirlhoosier52 says:

I can’t say that it’s one song in particular, but that awful canned stuff that you’re subjected to in the Malls & stores… oh ICK… and I have always thought that those poor retail clerks deserve hazadous duty pay for having to hear the same round over and over and over every day..!

  17. Brook says:

Bing Crosby’s White Christmas.  I do not dislike the song but it is overplayed to the point that I want to leave a store or change the radio when it comes on.

  18. StacieD says:

I’m not a fan of Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer.

  19. Lobo Tómia says:

Has to be Last Christmas by Wham.

  20. CK says:

Would it be bad if I said none? I guess I got off easy this year, but then again, I didn’t start shopping until the 22nd. Guess it pays off to procrastinate. LOL.

  21. Kellianne Rumsey says:

Baby, It’s Cold Outside—and every bad, still as creepy as the original, cover

  22. Reneesance says:

I’m going to second, or third, or fourth, Grandma got Runover by a Reindeer.  MAKE IT STOP.

  23. infinitieh says:

“Santa Baby” by Michael Buble – it’s just wrong.

  24. Jane Peach says:

“I Saw Mommy Kissin’ Santa Claus”  ‘Nuf said, I think!

  25. tezzkatt says:

I haven’t really heard much Christmas music this year but I do think White Christmas is played way too much and it’ll be nice not to hear it again for a while.

  26. HappyPiranha says:

Bad versions of “Santa Baby”.  Ugh.

  27. Allison says:

I’m with you on Jingle Bell Rock – every single person that sings that song sounds like an Eeyore wannabe. Nobody ever gets enthused about singing it anymore.

Of course, who can blame them?

  28. Gabrielle says:

I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus.  It confuses my son to no end.

  29. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. So over that one. It’s a little creepy too.

  30. Tina says:

Deck The Halls! It seems the radio plays this one every 5 minutes. And not just the radio… it’s piped through every sound system in every store I’ve been too. 🙁 I used to like that one also… -_-

  31. Kristin says:

I’m so glad I managed to mostly avoid the malls and their Christmas music this year, although just the thought of Mariah Carey is making me shudder!

  32. Silver James says:

It’s got to be “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.” The dang thing wasn’t funny when it first came out and unlike even Boone’s Farm Wine, has not gotten better with age.

  33. Jennellen says:

Hark the herald angel. Like it but don’t love it.

    Happy holidays!

  34. Aurora85 says:

All holiday songs. Last week when I went to do jazzercise, an instructor went overboard and for a whole freaking HOUR I had to put up with listening to christmas songs. Can’t stand them any of them.

  35. tadamack says:

Pretty sure if I hear :White Christmas: again I’ll be wanting to slap someone. It’s worse because I’ve heard it so many times I actually know the words to the verses.

This always happens with the things you hate the most.

  36. Last Christmas, sung by my husband, who I’m noticing has a disturbing obsession with that song.

  37. Suze in CO says:

ANY and ALL versions of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.

  38. Lisa J says:

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.  Nothing says Happy Holidays like an old person being mowed down on the road.

I was at the dentist for some fillings on Wednesday (Merry Christmas to me) and he mentioned if he never hears Burl Ives again he will be a very happy man.

  39. library addict says:

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. I loathe that song.

  40. The one about having a river to skate away on.  It is so depressing! (No matter what Glee said.)
