The madness continues! Today's Hanukkah gift is another $100 gift certificate to the bookstore of your choice! That ought to buy enough books to last you about a week, right? Maybe 10 days?
Just leave a comment with a link or recipe for your favorite snack to eat while you're reading.
My favorite cookie: Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies, one of the “Best of” from Martha Stewart Living Magazine. A bit more labor intensive than other cookie recipes, but I make them every year as a gift for Hubby, at his request. They are amazing with milk or tea, and a book to read. I cannot wait to find out your favorite snack while reading! Share share!
All the delicious disclaimers apply. I am not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited, and must be over 18 eating bonbons to win. Animal print pants are always out of control. Substantial penalty for early withdrawal. Any similarity to actual opinions, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas and Happy Week Before New Year's! Let's snack!
Here’s my favorite snack: http://www.100daysofrealfood.c…
I love frozen mint chocolate girl scout cookies – http://www.girlscoutcookies.or…
If I need to snack while reading, that tells me the book isn’t holding my interest!
Mine doesn’t really involve a recipe, or, at least, I don’t make them myself. I love eating really crunchy, thick Amish potato chips while I read my Nook. The kind that makes everyone else flinch because of the crunch. I suppose I could make them myself fairly easily but I’ve never tried. *ponders*
Mine has to be snickerdoodles—http://www.foodnetwork.com/rec…
My hubby loves it when I make them
Favorite snack to eat while reading . . . Hmm, don’t really have one. I usually get so engrossed in the book I may skip lunch. But a can of Pringles will do if I must have a snack.
I love popcorn. I do it stovetop, and melt a 1/2 stick of butter to drizzle of the top with salt.
I need lots of napkins when I read and eat though. Don’t want to leave gooey fingerprints on the pages.
This is a recipe from a small town grade school and the cookies are the best!
Sugar Cookies
1 cup Powdered Sugar
1 cup White Sugar
1 cup Butter
1 cup Oil
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla
4 cups plus 4 heaping tablespoons Flour
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Soda
1 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
Cream together sugar, butter, and oil. Add remaining ingredients.
Roll dough into small balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press down on dough ball with glass dipped in sugar.
Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
My favorite snack while reading must go with tea or wine so it has to be chocolate! Nothing is better than a nice glass of red or a hot cup of Earl Grey and Lindt truffles, especially while reading romance! A cliche, I know, but it is true.
This time of year? These: http://katiedcrafts.wordpress….
Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Not too picky on recipes – Toll House, Girardhelli, Trader Joe’s, your grandma’s, or even the oatmeal-choc-chip recipe my friend uses from AllRecipe. All are wonderful. Just so long as they are fresh, warm, and gooey, I’m happy.
Broccoli cheese dip. Super easy.
1 package of frozen chopped broccoli
8oz cream cheese
8oz sour cream
1pkg shredded cheese
1pkg Italian dressing mix
Mix together, cook on 375 for 45min-1hr. Sprinkle a bit more cheese on top about 10min before it’s done, if you like.
My fave is a Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel. I usually order through Gertrude Hawk school fundraisers for my kids. Lands End also had some this year but neither company has them available retail online right now. So, here’s a link to a brand on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Marinis-… Combined with a good book, they make a perfect little indulgence for me.
I usually don’t snack while reading since it will leave finger prints on screen.
These are the flippin’ bomb. One time I made these, I devoured a whole plate of them. Hey it’s cucumber – negative calories, right?
Cucumber Feta Toasts
Instead of the bread, I used bagel chips or pita chips to make them a one bite snack.

My other go to is chocolate, specifically mini Reeses cups. There’s not much of a recipe other than:
1.) Open bag
2.) Unwrap
3.) Savor and enjoy.
4.) Die of shame because you’ve eaten a ton of them without even noticing.
I don’t think there is a recipe for red wine 🙂
Here’s a link for my most favorite gluten free crackers which I eat because I love them, not because I have gluten problems. They are even better with cheese ball spread : http://www.crunchmaster.com/pp…
If I’m going to eat while reading, it’s microwave popcorn on which I pour half a stick of real butter. Nothing like the carbs and fat along with a good book…maybe tonite (heavy sigh).
Wow! Awesome giveaway. Thanks!! My favorite snack is tea (Irish Breakfast o Vanilla Caramel Truffle) and cookies. Have you tried Andes Creme de Menthe cookies yet? I saw them in the store this weekend. They’re delicious. I’m hoping they aren’t for a limited time because of the holidays!
Unfortunately for my wasteline, potatoes of any kind are my downfall. I snack on potato chips when I read, and when I can do it with dip, this is one of my favorites: http://www.foodnetwork.com/rec…
My favorite snack is chocolate, preferably dark and decadent. Dove, Godiva, Lindt. Right now I’m working on a manuscript where the heroine is opening a chocolate shop, and I’m “testing” her recipes, but they’re not published anywhere yet.
M&M’s or popcorn are great snack reading food!
I make my own variation of Chex mix that almost no one else likes (also known as a “hyptertensive’s suicide in a snackbowl”) .
Melt 1/2 stick butter. Add gobs of garlic powder and seasoned salt. Pour in worcestershire and soy sauce in nearly equal quantities until it tastes good. Dump that shit all over a mix of wheat and corn Chex (or store knockoffs) cereals. Heat in microwave in 2 minute increments stirring between each heating until it’s no longer soggy. Drain on paper towels and eat by the handful.
I will take the substantial penalty for early withdrawal over the addition of a child from the alternative.
Monster cookies! Love them.

Huh hmmm- id have to say Lays potato chips.
My favorite snack is microwave caramel corn – it’s so good! I got the recipe at a Tupperware party about 15 years ago. You microwave the caramel mix, and pour it over the popcorn in a brown paper bag – I always shake out my brown paper bag to make sure there are no gross stuff or spiders – the caramel popcorn is really tasty.
Here’s a recipe that is almost exactly the same as the Tupperware one I use:

My favorite? It’s so bad that I can’t have it often but I like Cheetos Puffs (not Crunchy – yuck!) and a cold bottle of Cream Soda.
My favorite holiday cookie was my Uncle Don’s prizzles. He made them every year in licorice and orange. The orange ones were the ones I liked. After he passed away I tried to make them using my Mom’s prizzle maker (it looks a little bit like a waffle maker) but I couldn’t make them like he did so I haven’t tried since. I’ve seen them in stores and they always make me think of him.

Hershey double chip brownies! They’re deliciously awesome!

I try not to snack while I’m reading… Okay, that’s something of a lie. I read through every single solo meal I eat, but I don’t really snack as I gave up junk food for 2011 and preparing a healthy snack is work. *eyeroll* But frozen grapes are good in the summer, and I like sipping white tea in the winter. (Or hot blackcurrant juice if I’m feeling like I need to ward of a flu.)
I’m a potato chips kinda girl. That’s my one major food indulgence other than chocolate.
Sarah – what an amazing giveaway! Thank you.
I made these http://smittenkitchen.com/2008… for the first time this year. They are delicously chocolatey. I added a simple peppermint icing on top to make them a bit more festive and they have been a hit at every family gathering I’ve taken them to. Chocolate & peppermint – how can you go wrong?
I don’t usually snack while reading, but my favorite cookies are these Nutty Wedding Cookies from the Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar cookbook: http://tennesseesugar.com/2011…
Not so much something you cook, but great to eat – gummy bears! http://www.amazon.com/Black-Fo…
Baked Lay’s Cheddar and Sour Cream chips. Of course, I only allow them into the house about 3 times a year because I eat the whole bag in one sitting. And the books get a little orange-y…
But I will mention, in case anyone has the urge to make cookies like I did last night, this recipe for crunchy sesame cookies. They are like peanut butter but richer, and a great way to use up leftover tahini!
http://www.myrecipes.com/recip…
Shortbread cookies from Walkers. simple and they go with any drink hot or cold 🙂
Lately I’m into Kettle Corn, but I will always have a thing for Cheezies. I have slightly orange fingerprints in certain books to prove it.
I’m a fan of Roasted Garbanzo Beans:
http://www.food.com/recipe/roa…
They are wonderfully crunchy, and just a bit healthy. You can adjust the spice mix to suit yourself and they go with all kinds of beverages. They are greeat for a party, too.
You will need a napkin, though, cause that spice mix does travel.
I love Martha’s Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies – spicy and delicious, and perfect for an afternoon with a hot romance: http://www.marthastewart.com/3…
Sour Cream Coffee Cake –
1 box yellow cake mix
1 cup sour cream
1 box instant vanilla pudding
3 (or maybe 4, I don’t have my recipe with me) eggs
Layer in bundt pan with flour/sugar/cinnamon mix
Bake at 350 until done. Approx 40 minutes
I guess it’s technically a drink and not a snack, but tea is my go-to for reading during the winter. Well, that or hot cocoa. Or coffee. Here’s a recipe for ginger milk tea, yum! http://appetiteforchina.com/re…
