My favorite historical romance was The Forbidden Rose by Joanna Bourne.
As most of my reading has been out of nursing books, my puny best-of list has few contestants… I’m going with Naamah’s Curse by Jacqueline Carey. Here’s hoping next year is Full of wonderful books!!!
Ooh, just one? For fiction I have to go with George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones,” book one of the Song of Ice and Fire series. Late to the party with it, I guess, but I’m really enjoying the series.
I’ve been reading a lot of great non-fiction too, mostly Canadian history. The one I’d call best(or at least freshest in my memory) is “Death or Victory: The Battle of Quebec and the Birth of an Empire” by Dan Snow.
C.L. Wilson’s Tairen Soul series. I read the entire series (5 books) all in Feb 2011 and wish I could find something else to now read that is of the same caliber.
I loved me some His Enemy’s Daughter by Terri Brisbin this year. 🙂
Hi, the book that comes to my mind instantly is Night Huntress 01 – Halfway to the Grave – Jeaniene Frost (the Night Huntress series).
When I finished the book, I was like WOW!
It’s become one of my favourite books!!! I totally got hooked on the series!!!
Lisa Kleypas “The Devil in Winter”. Loved it.
Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. I finally brought it and read it after hearing for years how fabulous it was, and frankly, everyone was right. I don’t know why it took me so long to read this book. Best romance I read this year hands down.
How can I pick just one? I’ve read well over 100 books this year!
I think I’ll have to go with Late Eclipses by Seanan McGuire though 🙂
It is frequently the book I am currently reading. However, the book I am currently reading is excellent: Graceling. It may be my favorite for the year.
I know you said one book, but the two J.D. Robb books that were released this year were so good—if I have to pick I would say New York to Dallas was the better of the two, but they were both just amazing. I love how much Eve has grown since the beginning of the series.
Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn.
One book is really too hard. So many good ones, but one that has stuck with me, even months after I read it was Sweet as Sin by Inez Kelley
I finally started getting some of Julie Garwood’s other older novels, and fell in love with her novel Ransom.
I read Devil’s Cub for the first time and loved it! Hope everyone had a great holiday season!
Meredith Duran’s Wicked Becomes You. It’s the first book of hers I’ve read and I loved it! Will definitely be checking out her other books.
That would have to be my annual re-read of “Jane Eyre” … I’ve loved that book since I was 12.

I really, really, really liked the Tokaido Road by Lucia St. Clair Robson. It was a recommend from someone on the site, although I don’t think it was a formal review. Only drawback was it wasn’t an ebook. But so good.
“City of Tranquil Light” by Bo Caldwell, with Pearl Buck’s “A Letter from Peking” a close second. This was my year of Discovering Pearl Buck and my life will never be the same. 🙂
Does “Introduction to Concise Logic” count? Because honestly, I can’t remember anything I’ve read that’s not related to school…
Wait! I’ve got it- I re-read Agatha Christie’s “The Moving Finger”… when I wrote a paper on it for English 101 (see? still school related). It’s my favorite Marple book, and in my opinion, one of Christie’s best.
My favorite book of all time which I reread every year is The Count of Monte Christo.
“Rinse and repeat” by Amberly Smith. m/m romance does count, right? *wink*
The best book I read this year was Meredith Duran’s “Duke of Shadows.”

Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh. I have a habit of racing through books I’m super anticipating and end up feeling sorta meh about them the first time through. So when I finally re-read KoS at a normal pace I really loved it.
I also read some pretty awesome sci-fi romance short stories this year. I lust for more Ilona Andrews and Zoe Archer in that genre.
Three Nights of Sin, Anne Mallory.
The one that floats to the top was Hemavore by Jordan Castillo Price.
Believe it or not I’m enjoying reading Little House Series.
If you insist that I pick just one—it would be Georgette Heyer’s “These old shades” (Beth, I hope you’ve read that one!) But right behind it were Sharon Shinn’s “Troubled waters” and Marisa de los Santos’ “Love walked in.”
I’m going with Agnes and the Hitman. I’ve bought 6 copies for friends since I read it.
Bond With Me by Anne Marsh. I couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait for the sequel. A close second is Bent by Sean Michael.

I think I’ll go with Dies the Fire, by S M Stirling – it is defiitely not the first time I’ve reread that one!

I’ve only started reading romances this year, and so far my favorite book has been Slightly Dangerous by Mary Balogh.
It’s shy of 4 am here and I’m brain fried, so there are only a handful of books coming to my head—I know that a few of those were truly amazing so I’ll go with them.

and that’s all I can think off. Which is sad because I know there are more.
Crud, I knew I was forgetting some good ones!
One Scream Away, by Kate Brady—some plot issues, but really good.
Shiloh Walker’s If You Hear Her, the first in her Ashville trilogy—really, really good.
The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner.
It’s the second book in a series that I read within a month last spring. I loved all four books but this one just blew my mind away.
