I just finished “Daughter of The Stars” by Phyllis Whitney, now I’m reading “Captains and Kings” by Taylor Caldwell. With my cat on the couch.
I just finished one of Stephanie Laurens new Cynster novels and I enjoyed it!
“Secrets of Bella Terra” by Christina Dodd. Enjoyed it just fine until plucky heroine pulls the TSTL move. When the psycho killer winks at you, it means he knows that you know he’s the psycho killer so why, oh why, would you follow him? When you have a cell phone in your hand?
I read Lauren Dane’s “Never Enough” (Adrian’s book), which I liked WAY more than I liked the last one. After the last one I thought I would give up for good on this series (and on Lauren Dane), but I got sucked in by the really hot cover. Ultimately, the story is probably kind of forgettable, but I enjoyed it at the time, thought it was better written than the last one and found the dialogue mostly more believable. I also read “Slave to Sensation” (Nalini Singh) and thought it was kind of over the top, but in a really good way. I’m now taking a break before grabbing the next one… Now I am reading a Robyn Carr (Paradise Valley, I think?). These are like comfort food to me (I assume they qualify as “Adirondack chair porn” as well!—I’m outing myself as a podcast listener…). I have “Bad Boys Do” (Victoria Dahl) and “Cut and Run” (Madeline Urban & Abigail Roux) sitting on my Kindle for when I finish Robyn Carr.
I bought a bag of released library books on Saturday and picked up “Death by Darjeeling” to read first. Brain candy mystery. Tea shop detective. Has possibilities. Urk! The author tells the reader everything, in excruciating, purply-descriptive detail and not much happens for pages and pages as everyone’s backstory is carefully explained. Even the discovery of the body was boring. I’m not sure I care enough about any of the trite and cliched characters to continue. When you start to envy the corpse, it’s time to quit.
I have never tried audio books, am I missing out ? it’s got to be better than the radio these days. Trouble is I may not be able to get out of the car and into work if it’s a who done it .
I spent the weekend rereading Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince in preparation for teaching it on Monday (yes, I’m totally teaching a Harry Potter class. Because I am Professor Awesome, that’s why.) and also rereading Bet Me…because I just needed to read about food and makeovers.
