Today is a great day to fly Old Glory as it is 197th anniversary of The Star Spangled Banner.  If you are near Baltimore, stop by Fort McHenry to hear the story of how Francis Scott Key was inspired to write our National Anthem.  If you are near DC, stop by the Smithsonian’s American History Musuem where they have lovingly restored the original tattered flag that was still flying after a night of shelling from the British Navy.

  2. Sasha says:

Well, stuck at the ER with my daughter who has a degenerative muscle disease.  Tomorrow she turns 16 so hoping we don’t stay.  That’s what’s new here.  But, I’m happy to hear about the ferrets (:  And SBTB never fails to give me a reason to smile!

  3. AgTigress says:

    Excellent news about the ferrets!
    🙂

  4. Donna says:

The Great Fort McHenry Hike of 2005, ah memories…
Sasha, hope you’re heading home & Happy B-day to your precious girl.
What’s new w/ me? Why do people who spend 8 years educating themselves to be a doctor feel they need to play IT manager? “It’s wi-fi capable!” He exclaims about the new computer he bought for our satellite office. Except we don’t have wi-fi in our satellite office. Now that the “Oh, you just need to start it up. I loaded everything myself. It’s ready to go.” actually works, he’s put it on a cart that he wants in the clinical area 20 feet from my desk where the ethernet hub is located…. with the power cords running through my work area… the floor of my work area… & the coaxial (?)cable for the internet is 4 feet long….

Can you hear my head banging from there?

  5. James Lynch says:

Well, I couldn’t make my entry for the EVERYTHING I KNOW… contest on the other blog—I think it was the captcha—so that was a mild letdown.

  6. @James: Don’t worry. I will enter you. Not sure why the site wouldn’t work for you.

  7. Karenmc says:

    Hooray for the ferrets!

That’s Donna’s head I hear? I thought it was my ninth-months-new tankless water heater making sounds akin to a door slamming (which is why the tech is returning this afternoon for a second try at exorcising whatever the hell the problem is).

Also, I’ve re-read An Unwilling Bride and am carrying it around now in the silly hope of actually writing down some notes for Book Chat.

I’m awaiting the arrival of my new nookColor (got a refurbished one from buy.com) and thinking about what I want to read first on my new contraption.  Been waffling about whether I should inaugurate it with a beloved book that I know I’m going to enjoy (but have read many times in print) or if I should buy something that I haven’t read yet, like the new JAK Arcane series book.

  9. Vicki says:

Congrats on the book. I couldn’t get Estep’s site to accept me as human so I guess I’ll wait and buy a copy.

What’s new here? The clinic we just merged with had a salsa cook-off at lunch (yummy) and non-Hispanic me ranked very near the top with my non-traditional salsa. Yeah, me.

Now a two minute pause in my day. Should I do paperwork or continue to hang with the Smart Bitches? Hmm, hard choice.

  10. snarkhunter says:

    Hooray ferrets!

Today I got to teach Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, so my life is going pretty well. 😀

  11. @Vicki—Sorry the site wouldn’t work for you either. I’ll enter you in the contest too.

  12. sweetsiouxsie says:

    @Sasha…you are in my thoughts.

We were boxing up stuff at my mom’s for the rummage sale and a creature that looks like a muskrat or mink or something went strolling out from the building and down to the beach (Lake Michigan). Maybe he was celebrating the ferrets’ good news?

  13. Congrats on the book. I couldn’t get Estep’s site to accept me as human so I guess I’ll wait and buy a copy.

  14. EbonyMcKenna says:

    Woot! Go Ferrets.

    They make marvellous romantic leads.
    Just saying.

  15. SB Sarah says:

@Sasha: Happy birthday to your daughter!! Hope you both have a most excellent day! AT HOME!

This thread was fun. I might have to make the ‘Whatcha doin?’ threads a more regular occurrence.

And you do NOT want to know how many times I had to try to spell “occurrence.”

  16. SonomaLass says:

A belated woop woop for the ferrets! I still have and use my Smart Bitches book bag with ferrets. Alas, my “Ferrets Against Plagiarism” coffee mug was stolen from my college office. I savor the irony.

  17. Cynara says:

Let’s hear it for the ferrets.  I wish them a HEA with many secret babies.
