Links: Coupons, Refurb Kindles, Nancy Drew, and Other Stuff

REFURB KINDLES ROCK!There are refurbished Kindles on sale for $99, which is both a good and a bad thing. The discount may mean a new model is coming soon but it probably own’t be $99, whatever it is. So if you’ve been waiting for the price to drop, it surely dropped now!

Hark a Vagrant does Nancy Drew Cover Snark!

Graceful curtsey to Robinjn for the link.

I am over at Kirkus talking about changing trends in covers, from models looking directly at you to the long-lasting trend of headless covers.

This trend is slowly changing, and on more recent releases you’ll see a head, a back, a peek of a face looking over a shoulder. In the past few years, very often the cover would reveal everything from the chin downward. On the men, stubble to hips with man titty of epic proportion in between, or for the heroine, chin to bustle, with perhaps a partially undressed back in the middle. For a while now, there haven’t been a lot of faces on the covers of romance novels.

Kobo coupons for you – I had a hard time figuring out what the “select ebooks” were, as I didn’t see any marked. Maybe it works on all of them? That’d be cool!

20% Off Kobo eBooks with code “June20off”. Valid through 31 December 2011.

Get $1 Off select Kobo eBooks – Kobodollaroff. Valid through August 31, 2011.

Book About Meetings Sponsored by Meeting Software- HA! This is rather thought-provoking. Domino Project’s “Read This Before Our Next Meeting” is free for the Kindle thanks to corporate sponsorship. This week: Citrix, a software used to log in securely to workplace information and desktops, is sponsoring the free-ness.

Also of note: it is not available digitally at BN:nook except in Audio format. Domino books are Amazon-powered, as they put it, and thus digitally Amazon exclusive.

While the idea of sponsoring a freebie is interesting, and I wonder whether or how it would translate to the romance fiction genre, I have to say, I think this is kinda funny. One of Citrix’s included features is the virtual meeting software, GoToMeeting. So read the book before your next virtual meeting (and then cancel it because the only thing worse than a meeting is a Task Force).

And for your next office decor purchase: Meetings: None of Us is as Dumb as All of Us.

Graceful curtsey to Mollie for the link.

Kobo coupons work on any non-Agency book (such as those from Harlequin, Carina, Samhain, etc.).

Oh man, I have spent literally the last five minutes giggling at Nancy Drew. I’m still randomly laughing at the Old Yeller one.

  3. LG says:

Check out Hark a Vagrant’s other cover comics – there are plenty more Nancy Drew ones, as well as Edward Gorey. I wish she drew faster, because that site is always worth a giggle, even when I don’t know much or anything about the history a strip is based on.

  4. I followed the link and checked Amazon and Kindle facebook, but am seeing no $99 Kindles.  Are they gone already, or am I thick, and looking in the wrong place?

Christine: It’s beneath the product information at the top – but I’m sorry for not making it more obvious. Here’s a direct link.

You had me at Nancy Drew! LOLOLOLOLOL cover snark.

The one for Mystery at Lilac Inn brings back happy memories of rushing into Woolworth’s at age 8 or 9 with my allowance. They carried nearly the entire Nancy Drew series at my local store, and my goal was to purchase every one, in order. 🙂

    PS: I still have them.

  7. SB Sarah says:

Oh – and thank you for the clarification Brian!

  8. Christine: It’s beneath the product information at the top –

    Thank you!

And my son, the broke college student thanks you as well.  We have been having the ‘initial cost of e-reader vs later text book savings’ conversation for about a week now.  This should help make his decision.

  9. Courtney says:

Hark a vagrant cracks me up every time.  Dude Watching with the Brontes is my favorite.

  10. Asia M says:

Love the Nancy Drew Hark a Vagrant! 😀 😛

  11. Sara Numos says:

Thanks for the heads up and the direct link.  I just snatch up a couple for my kids which are about to start college.  Anyone knows when the new model is coming out?  Hopefully soon, mines is getting banged up really bad.

Ah, and that’s what I get for skipping my smartbitches fix for several days.  I finally gave in to the call of the Kindle two days ago, it is currently making the 3 day trek down I-90.  Lesson learned, read smartbitches every day. At least I paid for all but $30 of it with various rewards points.
