I haven’t decided if I’ll do another video this year – it’s fun but time consuming! And I hear rumors of another video in the works right now that promises to be epic hilarious. If I do create a new one, got any song suggestions? Bad lip syncing is always fun!

I’m attending the literacy signing this year and I was wondering if you could tell us a bit about how it works. Like how far in advance should people start lining up? Do they kick you out promptly at 7pm or do authors just start leaving? Will the booksellers take credit/debit cards? Is it easier to visit authors alphabetically or skip around to make sure you get the ones you want? How many authors will you be able to hit in a two hour period, realistically speaking? Does anyone provide shipping? Do they charge you tax since it’s a charity event? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
As far as song suggestion goes, maybe Firework? Although I do like the idea of ‘Raise Your Glass’ as well.
How about “This Kiss”? I loved the movie and the soundtrack from Practical Magic and this song is one of my favorites. I think the authors would have fun hamming it up while lip-syncing the lyrics.

I squeed over the authors, yes. Seeing the faces of names I’ve seen on covers was pretty darned exciting. Wow, they are real people and awfully nice ones at that.
I loved this video when I first saw it and I do again, now. I don’t have any suggestions for this year, though—everything I listen to is from high school. And that was a while ago…
One song that I’ve been playing a lot lately that would make a great author lip-sync video is Bonnie Raitt’s Love Me Like A Man. The lyrics are pretty much the lament of the romance novel heroine, I think a lot of the authors would have fun camping it up, lots of instrumental breaks for crowd shots, etc. And, plus, it’s Bonnie Raitt! Who’s cooler than Bonnie Raitt?

My first thought for a song is rataher old skool – “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. “This Kiss” is a fun one, too. But the one song that keeps giving me an earworm is Katie Perry’s “California Gurls.” (Though that one might be more appropriate for RWA12…)

@K let me try to answer some of your questions:

I’ve seen people line up an hour or so beforehand, but they are usually fans of Kenyon’s who are there to get a ticket to something. I forget what.
Do they kick you out promptly at 7pm or do authors just start leaving?
There are a lot of announcements made that Time is Running Out but the line to check out is always so long that folks are there past 7pm. That said, many people have dinner reservations to get to so they have to leave.
Will the booksellers take credit/debit cards?
In previous years there have been credit card machines hooked up.
Is it easier to visit authors alphabetically or skip around to make sure you get the ones you want?
My advice: make a list, and try to narrow down the top authors you absolutely have to meet. But leave time to discover new folks, too. Best part of the book signing, really.
How many authors will you be able to hit in a two hour period, realistically speaking?
I wish I knew! I think if you’re seriously motivated, and you’re not planning to hit a list of authors who will have long lines, you can find time to meet a good number of authors.
Does anyone provide shipping?
You’ll have to make those arrangements yourself, but one thing about NYC, there are a TON of nearby UPS, FedEx Kinkos and Mailboxes ETC stores around. You can also bring a pre-paid USPS priority box, but then you just have to make sure all the books fit in that box!
Do they charge you tax since it’s a charity event?
I honestly don’t know. I’m sorry that I don’t.

Okay, I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but “It’s Raining Men.” Such a great chorus! “It’s raining men…Hallelujah, it’s raining men….”
It’s funny…last year’s song was Ke$ha’s Your Love is My Drug and many have recommended P!nk’s Raise Ur Glass for this year…those two songs are back to back on my ipod’s jogging playlist, and just before those 2 is Uncharted by Sara Barielles…so that’s my vote – her video for the song is the same concept…people singing her lyrics…plus, I love the song, and it contains my motto as a romance writer/would be novelist: “Compare where you are to where you want to be and you’ll get no where.”
Won’t be at the conference this year but am planning on it for 2012!
