Southern Relief in Pictures

I answered over 100 email messages asking for an address to mail much-needed items down to Alabama. Individuals, church groups, writer’s critique groups, and a playdate group all found items to go shopping and to give gently used items – to paraphrase one email: “Help! I am buried in tampons and need an address to ship all these boxes.”

Here’s a picture of what your generosity looks like –  and this is ONE DAY’s worth of mail drop deliveries. This volunteer told me she’d already taken a load of boxes over to her local church relief distribution center in rural Alabama over the weekend.

Have a look. “The UPS man may disown us,” she joked.

You guys are AWESOME. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

On behalf of the state of Alabama, I thank the Bitchery for their aid to my state. I’m lucky because of an accident of geography (further south than the tornadoes), and every time I see the aftermath on the news, I feel like I dodged a bullet. Truly, thank you.

I second the thanks.  People throughout this country have been so generous, and the people here in Alabama have been absolute heroes themselves, giving time, money and donations.  The outpouring of help has been so encouraging.

I have received three big boxes of donations myself from romance readers who contacted me wanting to help, and I believe even more are on the way.

Romance readers and writers are the best!

It’s official. The Bitchery are the most amazing people of my acquaintance!!! Our dearly beloved postal lady is totally going to disown me… But it’s worth it! I’ll be taking the stuff I get at my Tuscaloosa address to some smaller towns nearby this weekend. Some places have had a lot less donated than we have. Thank you all SO SO MUCH!!!

  8. I was wonderfully blessed when I evacuated my home in Egypt in Feb – friends of a friend donated more clothes than my children and I could ever use. Today I went through it all to organize it so I could pay it forward by sending it down South. I was planning to mail it but found a local church in my area which has a truck all ready to load up and go. I’m sure your mailman will be grateful because I have A LOT OF STUFF to contribute 😉
