Friday Videos Like Car Chases

From Sunny comes this majestic pile of awesome:

LIIIIIIIIIINK!

I wonder which period dramas would be improved with a car chase. OMG. Jane Eyre. THAT WOULD ROCK. I wonder what Rochester would drive?

The ‘bestest’ ever according to the moony face of my hubby whom I felt compelled to ask for expert opinion. After admiring some Buggatis’, some Mercedes’ and Audis’ etc, I found what I quite see as the best for Rochester: Rolls Royce Ghost. I can just imagine Rochester driving it, racing, in uncompromising luxury black.

    Leslie says:

It depends on which Rochester: Laurence Olivier’s Rochester does drive the Rolls; George C. Scott just walks everywhere; Timothy Dalton drives an Aston Martin; William Hurt drives a non-descript black sedan; and Toby Stephens drives a kick-ass 1967 Chevy Impala (black).

Ha!  I remember when my husband wouldn’t go with me to see Emma.  When he asked me afterward how it was I said, “The curricle chase scenes were good, but the nude scenes were really hot!”

    That’ll teach him.[g]

Thanks for sharing this fun video.  Still don’t want to see the movie, but they get points for wit.

You are so right Sarah, definitely a pile of AWESOME…
Laughed myself silly at this :)

@Darlene – but it’‘s got THE ROCK!! …. I mean Dwayne Johnson.  I’ve never sat through any of the others, but this one? That is one serious hunk of eye candy.

    And Mr. Rochester?  Jaguar XK-E.

@ Leslie: “1967 Chevy Impala (black)”

I would have sex with that car.

Are you sure that’s not Vin Diesel? I thought it was Vin Diesel. (I’ll be happy either way, both of them are hot.)

    Vin Diesel AND the Rock.

This video made my day!  I completely agree.  Pride and Prejudice only needs a car chase to make it complete.

Maybe a Darcy v. Wickham chase through Pemberley.

    Becky Banks says:

Okay, I think there’s something wrong with me, I just got all hot and bothered from those car chase scenes. Dodge is right, car chase scenes DO make movies better!

@KerryAllen: “I would have sex with that car. ” AMEN sista!!

    Donna says:

The ‘67 Impala? Meh. Now the ‘68 Plymouth Barracuda with the Hemi engine – that was an effable car.

    Sunny says:

I just think this needs to be done. A sort of epic alternate universe of muscle cars mixed with Regency… Or would that be too much of a good thing?

Also, I am not ashamed to admit I want to see this ad made into a series so we see what happens with Cornelius and Milady. I care more about this commercial than the movie it was made to garner interest in.

Anyone else fall out of their chair when our hero was flung into a shed and it EXPLODED Michael Bay style? The punching through the windshield was crazy cool too.

OH! And I thought up a title for this were it made into a film: The Fast and the Fastidious.

(Did someone say Pride and Prejudice and car races? Because Liz and Darcy in a tension-fueled drag race would be so much win.)

Well, the car saved the world so it should get some nookie.

Donna: I hear that they are rebooting the franchise with the Rock.

taking the car theme as a jump-off point to whine about authors who name brands of cars when the cars don’t match the hero.  I recently read an otherwise good series where the very alpha heroes drove 1) a BMW 1 series and 2) a VW EOS.  Please.  where was the ‘68 Barracuda when it was needed.
Car chases good (never beat the one in Bullit); poor car choices bad.

@Glee—I remember a contemporary romance (not a Harlequin) that came out in paperback in the 60s.  Fairly standard romance but everything was name branded.  The heroine didn’t pack her suitcase, she packed her Samsonite.  Her clothes were described by brand name.  It was like one long advertisement.  I think the author wanted to really establish place and time so she dropped a lot of names.  I really wish I had it now.  It would be really quaint.

Leave the name brands alone.  Just say the hero drove a sleek black car that seemed to prowl rather than drive along the streets smoothly taking the corners and accelerating quietly and effortlessly.  As he sank back in the glove leather seats, his GPS gave directions in a sultry woman’s voice that seems to caress each word.

    The ‘68 ‘Cuda?!
    Hell yeah!!!
I would absolutely sleep with that car and the hero driving it.

The commercial was great and so was the movie!!!

    Let’s see – Vin + The Rock + ‘68 Cuda = a very happy Eve!!!!

Excellent Friday video. And good discussion of car choices. Yes, I do notice what cars the heros drive (and why don’t more of the heroines drive great cars?)

BTW, my brother, my cousin, and I shared an early Plymouth Duster in college and all got into various degrees of nookie and other trouble in it. However, the best car for street racing (my brother and I rebuilt it) was the ‘63 split window Corvette. We should have kept that car!

this is the best thread ever!

    @Sunny – I couldn’t get enough of the human/shed explosion!

  25. 25

Amazing commercial. I just pointed at the screen and “ooh, ooh, ooh’ed” the whole time. Told my hubby we should have gotten a charger instead of a minivan. He said something about car seats and groceries but what does he know?

  26. 26
    Gathers Scrolls says:

I’m a tiny bit disappointed that this *wasn’t* made into a movie. I would definitely watch it!  :-D
I second the idea of making a series of commercials about these characters; I want to know how this car chase ends!

  27. 27

Hah!  How great was that? And I’ve recently been thinking about buying a Charger, one of the sexy cars from my frivolous youth that has risen from Detroit’s car graveyard! This kind of advertising could tip the scales.
