My One And Only: A Giveaway and a Bag Worth Coveting

Book Cover Kristan Higgins’ My One and Only is happily ensconced on the NYT and USA Today bestseller lists, and I have been offered a fun little collection to celebrate.

Gift setIf you leave a comment and tell me the most essential item in your car’s glove compartment, you’re entered to win. Easy! And what could you win? A prize pack that includes a really cute travel bag, some travel essentials like lip gloss, mascara, and bronzer, and a copy of the book.

My glove compartment essentials are kinda boring: a mylar reflective heat blanket, bottles of water, hand wipes, about 14,000 pens that don’t work, and a really bad GPS. If you know which one is my car and want to steal it, go for it – it gives really crap directions, like getting off the highway and getting on one of those roads with stoplights and big box stores every 200 ft. I think it would take me to Manhattan by way of Texas if I allowed it. I do have a candy stash, though. No touching!

Standard disclaimers apply: I am not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Hang up and drive. Texting while operating a moving vehicle is punishable by a lot of hateration and some glaring, and possibly a heaping ticket if the cops spot you. No hateration in this dancery. You’ve got 24 hours. This contest is open to residents of the US and Canada.

So, what’s in your

wallet

glove compartment that absolutely must stay there? Got a dashboard mascot that is required in your car? Anyone have a mini-library in their car, too, or are you one of those people who can’t read in a moving vehicle?

    It has been so long since I even looked in my glove compartment that I can’t remember most of it but We keep the book from our car and all our car parts receipts in it.  But the most important is pads.  If you ever need a compress in an accident and have nothing else they work great.  Had to do this once when a gentleman fell down at the dump and hit his head.  My e-reader I keep in my pocket and my kids won’t let me read while driving for some reason.  (not that I would)

  2. I think my GPS is the same brand as yours – it got me lost in Houston at 2am last month 🙁

    My glovebox essentials are: napkins (for obvious reasons) and an item I only use twice year – the instructions on how to change the time on my radio’s display.  It makes me crazy if it’s an hour off.

    A small high powered flashlight.  You never know when you’re gonna need it!!

    I have 3 daughters, which means they have girl bff’s, which means the most important thing(s) kept in my glove box are feminine hygiene products – – – and well the other essential for me is a church key, you would be surprised how difficult it is to locate one when not everything has a screw off top!  =)

    The insurance card.

    I got pulled over last summer (73 in a 55) and could NOT find valid proof of insurance in my truck. Now I’m obsessive about the expiration date on that thing!

    The basics—insurance, etc—and also napkins. I am like a black hole of Dunkin Donuts napkins, I swear to go, they all end up in my glove compartment. I also, somehow, magically, have road maps for states I have never been to, like Oregon.

  7. Tanya Maxemow says:

    It’s napkins and a Bible. I really can’t read in the car because I get car sick but I like having my dad’s Bible in the car with me. He died when I was 16, so it’s just a little piece of him that’s always with me when I travel.

  8. I don’t even own a car, but my husband and I do rent cars for our annual rode trips. When we do, this is what is usually in the glove compartment:

    1. tissues;
    2. insurance/car rental papers;
    3. Google map printout;
    4. One of my paper back books to read;
    5. Cd/DVD holder; and
    6. hard candy.

  9. Nico says:

    I don’t drive, but have taken over the glove compartment of my husband’s car. This means that the insurance and manual are stuffed behind a whole stack of CDs that he doesn’t listen to and also my ipod charger and some ketchup packets (you never know when you’re going to need ketchup). Don’t feel bad for him though, he listens to sports radio when he’s alone in the car.

  10. Lulu says:

    I keep only the essentials in my glove box:

    Insurance
    Car manual
    Tire pressure gauge
    Sugar & stirrers for when the drive-thru forgets them
    Bank deposit envelopes & deposit stamp
    Spare change
    Matches
    Flashlight
    Leatherman tool
    And the single most important travel item:
    CORKSCREW!
