We Take a Break from the Crazysauce for More Crazysauce - and Not So Crazysauce

First, from Julie and many others: the best self-portraits in the history of the world. Alex Holder, she of the Awesome Blonde Hair, commissioned these portraits as part of Women’s Day. Can we all take a moment to marvel at her boyfriend’s mustache?

And ponder where they found that beige turtleneck – and that teal jumpsuit?!

Well played, Ms. Holder. Well played.

Second, in a totally different direction, last week I was a keynote speaker at PubCamp, talking about reader issues and the bad news and good news from a reader’s perspective. The text of my speech is online at Kirkus if you’d like to read it – it’s mostly accurate to what I said, though I do tend to go off my own outline when I’m speaking. I know I definitely thanked the folks manning the espresso machines for keeping me caffeinated – but that’s a given wherever I am.

OMG those pictures are AMAZING! I love that they are replicated down to the last detail of hand position and finger placement.  Totally cracked me up!

Note the position of the foot on the model with the teal jumpsuit.  Obviously no human being could really assume the wierd enlongated twisted foot position on the cover.  I’ve often thought that instead of looking hot and sexy some of the covers just look twisted and uncomfortable.  What is with some of these covers?  Some of the “costumes” the women wear are ridiculous and you couldn’t be seen on the streets in them much less fight bad guys or supernatural creatures.

Those pictures are just about the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Re the self-portraits:  Yeah, the attention to detail is amazing and, obviously, a lot of effort went into recreating the covers, but there’s something a little creepy about the illustrated versions that’s even more evident when they’re live-action.  Take the 3rd one—doesn’t it look like he’s cheerfully throttling her?  And the 2nd one—did they become magically enchanted by that sea-shell, because I don’t know why else they’d both be looking at it so intently with those “we just won the lottery!” smiles.

These photos are SO AMAZING!!! Wow. Imagine the time spent painting those backdrops! The clothes are perfect, the positioning…. I don’t think I would be able to talk my BF into that. But I’m really glad this person did!
